UKRAINE WAR: New worries for Putin! "Considered one of the biggest attacks on Moscow so far!"
According to Russian sources, Ukraine attacked Moscow with a large number of drones on Wednesday night. Eleven flying objects aimed at the capital were neutralized in the region, the Defense Ministry announced on the Telegram short message service. "This is one of the largest attempts to attack Moscow with drones so far," wrote Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on Telegram. Some drones were destroyed over the city of Podolsk, which lies around 38 kilometers south of the Kremlin. According to initial findings, there were no injuries or damage to property, Sobyanin continued.
Like Ukraine, Russia is keeping quiet about the full extent of the consequences of attacks as long as no civilian infrastructure is damaged or civilians are killed. The Russian authorities also usually only report the number of aircraft they were able to neutralize. Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with drones in recent months. However, it was usually only one or two aircraft that were aimed at the capital. Wednesday's attack also appears larger than the attack in May 2023, when at least eight drones were destroyed over the Russian capital. President Vladimir Putin said at the time that Ukraine wanted to threaten and provoke Russia.
The attack on Wednesday night was part of a larger drone attack. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a total of 45 aircraft launched from Ukraine were destroyed. Over the border regions of Bryansk and Belgorod, 23 and six drones respectively were shot down, and three drones over the Kaluga region. Kaluga is located southwest of the Moscow region. According to the ministry, two drones were shot down over the Kursk region, which Ukrainian troops have invaded. Repelled attacks have also been reported from the Tula and Rostov regions, but the Defense Ministry has not commented on these.
The Reuters news agency cannot yet independently confirm the reports. There was no immediate statement from Ukraine.
