  • Review of the TinyJohn incinerating toilet. Damaged, Poor quality, Terrible customer service, and constant lies. *Buyer Beware* They took my money, delivered junk, and stalled as long as possible.
    Update: July 1st, the credit card company favored me in the dispute and gave me a permanent refund. So happy this is all over! Next I'll be strongly looking into Incinolet and going solar, or forking over some serious cash for a Cinderella Toilet made in Norway. We'll see. I'll upload a new review and Installation video as soon as I make my choice.

    my dream of owning and using an incinerator toilet is slowly dying. last week i tried to buy a cinderella toilet for the base price of 4.4k USD. after i ordered i i get an email telling me i need to pay another 99 dollars for shipping and 350 for a vent that was not included but warranty requires. so i add another 450... then the next day i get a "congrats on your toilet" email. they included installation instructions, that clearly state in red font, all electrical and gas connections MUST be done by a certified HVAC person. i have no money left to send this certified person off grid to my property to instal the damn thing,
    And now i find this video. Thanks Kyle for saving me time and money on this review.

      @kslip  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, I am sorry to hear that. I thought cinderella would've been top of the line. It is so disappointing that there aren't more quality options for incinerating toilets. I believe there will be, but that doesn't help us now of course. As for the installation instructions on your cinderella toilet stating electrical and gas connections must done by a certified HVAC person....I believe they just put that there for legal purposes, so you can't sue them if you do it yourself and burn the place down. Of course it's always smart to have a professional do these things for safety and quality purposes, but if you are confident in your abilities, then id do it yourself! I just say that, because I personally AM comfortable doing these things myself. Really, I think any incinerating toilet you buy from any company, is going to have the "get a professional to install" language so they can protect themselves legally and minimize returns or issues from inexperienced people messing it up.
      As for my attempted purchase of the Eco John, I would've had no problem installing it myself had the thing not been falling apart on arrival. Since it ran off propane, there was no way i was going to risk my life hooking up gas to that piece of junk.
      Good luck with everything, and don't give up!

    We bought one of these and highly regret it. While we think and pray that the nightmare is over, you just never know what will go next on this thing. This thing took like 6 months to ship and they just kept saying "it will ship next week!". again... 6 months later... finally comes and it gets set up and we test it. Hm, issue with door to burn chamber. Turns out they never did QC on it. Things only half tightened, bent parts, etc... Finally get it going, the board fails. They send a new one. Works for a few days and dies. Some other things also became clearly wrong and EcoJohn says oh well its a dud, you pay shipping it back and we will send you a new one..... uh... yeah, no. Your product was faulty because, as they even admitted, it was an issue from their assembly workers at the shop. After some flipping out, they shipped a whole new unit but the owner was quite hesitant and refused to take responsibility but whatever, it comes in. Another board, another issue. Literally we would get it going with some new parts and then something else would fail. Have to take something out way inside, where is this part from? Right on it says Alibaba.... NICE- Cheapest possible chinese part you could find. After months and months of fiddling with it, it works but its only been going for a week stright which is the longest it has run in the few months we have had it.

    • @kslip
      @kslip  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, that is insane! Eco John has got to be the worst business I have EVER heard of. I don't think anyone gets more shady than them. They have a shiny new highly produced "review" 😉 out there where they are clearly trying to make themselves look a lot better. It's pretty laughable and obvious that the guy either A, works for them or B, was paid off for the glowing review. Either way he wouldn't reply to my questions asking how his review came about, and then deleted my comment. Hopefully people see my actual honest review, and scroll through the comments because there are A LOT of people who have experienced the same BS from ecojohn. All the comments like yours speak volumes about who they are. I find that interesting that they waited 6 months to ship your toilet. They must now be aware that most credit card companies will not let you dispute a charge past 6 months. I think they are more interested in stealing from people rather than selling a product. I am sorry that you went through all of this! I would encourage you to share your review on other websites as well, and leave this review on their BBB page. If enough people leave their honest reviews on the internet, then EcoJohn will not be able to stay in business much longer.

      I ordered my Ecojohn last year and it took 2 months to ship out. When I did receive the Ecojohn it didn't work right out of the box. The igniter was bad and took a month to get a replacement. I got the igniter installed and the trap door doesn't open and close all the way. When you contact the company by phone no one ever picks up so there isn't any support there. It takes a couple weeks to get any email returned as well. Also, the seat doesn't fit the top of the unit as well it wobbles around like in the video. My belief is there isn't any Quality Control taking place as well. At least they should do is give us more support and offer to fix it or get us the parts quicker than a month so we can do the work ourselves.

    I recently received my ECOJOHN toilet a few weeks ago. I have to agree with most of what this guy is saying.
    My experience. It took 2 months to receive it. ECOJOHN was very responsive to email inquiries. When it finally arrived and packaged in a wood crate similar in this video. Except mine must have fallen off a truck. The top was barely hanging on. It easily ripped it off. The toilet was completely wrapped in plastic wrap. However, it was NOT strapped to the crate. After removal of the plastic wrap. Notice the toilet seat was broken in about a dozen pieces.
    Yes just like in the video the metal cover at the bottom doesn't fit properly. I had to bend it back in shape to make it fit. The top of the unit, the part you sit on, keeps falling off. was not attached in any way. So I drilled some holes and put some screws in. I told ECOJOHN about the damage and they promptly, within 3 days, sent out a new toilet seat cover.
    Even tho I spent $3,800 Overall, I am satisfied with this toilet. My house is off-grid and grow what I eat. The toilet fits perfectly with my lifestyle. Yes, the workmanship sucks and poorly built. but it is made in America. Can't really expect anything better. bottom line, if you want better quality and cheaper price buy a brand from Norway, Romania, or china.

    • @kslip
      @kslip  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for sharing your experience. It's Interesting to see how EcoJohn/the toilet is working out for someone else. It seems like we have a few things in common. I'm glad you're happy with it 👍! I respectfully disagree with your last part that 'you can't really expect better for being made in the USA'. I believe you absolutely can, especially for $3800. Although they don't currently make a propane model, Incinolet has a much better and faster shipping process. You are now the 3rd person I've heard of who has had issues with their EcoJohn toilet on arrival. That's really curious. I wonder how long they can blame FedEx/Ups until they have to start doing a better job packaging and shipping their products. (And a much better job designing and manufacturing if we really want to get into it) Just saying. I have ordered A LOT online over the years. Some huge shipments, some small. Some, but most of course not made in the USA; But every-single-one packaged better. A washer/dryer combo from Canada sent to a U.S. distribution center, then to my address. Packaged perfectly. Not a scratch, tons of foam, double boxed, everything taped and plastic wrapped. 1/3rd the price of the Tiny John. Of course they're different products, but still. For your living situation, you ordered the only propane option made in America, and made it work despite some issues. I commend you for that. But I won't shrug my shoulders and blame America for the expensive garbage and hot air I received from EcoJohn. Companies like them give the U.S a bad name. But that's just my 2 cents. I am excited to receive my new Incinolet toilet (made in USA). I will have to do much more work to install it in my 5th wheel, but I've had a good experience with them in the past. To each their own I guess. ✌️

      @@kslip I have more. took the back off and ribbon cable was disconnected and way too long. the ground screw was only a few threads in. really. needed 1/4 inch till bottom out. the wires were all willy nilly laying around the heating box. and the big problem that really got me. there was no support for the propane gas line. the whole gas line assembly just floats in the wind. As an electronics engineer, the entire product looks like a first run. believe the company has been in business for a while. so they should have a perfected product by now. I'm still saying the ecojohn toilet is a "shitty" product. yes, pun intended.
      oh btw, thank you for making the video. they seem to be rare for the ecojohn for some reason.

      @@PickledHam You're welcome! I really appreciate you taking the time to comment and share your insight and observations. Yeah, for as along as they've been in business, it is odd to me there aren't more reviews or videos period. Their indifference to me and my concerns was definitely frustrating. Anyways, that's great that you fixed it up and made it usable. Its probably a great feeling to be off grid, and have an incinerating toilet. With all the views and feedback I've received on this video, it seems like there's alot of interest in alternative toilets. I feel like we're on the forefront of the toilet revolution here (😂) and there will soon be more companies making them and, for less $$$.

    Wow, I'm a metal fabricator, so I'm used to seeing various stuff built but this thing looks like a POS! It's crazy how thin the metal is! Im glad I looked to see if others have had issues. I had my tiny john delivered in January and had the same issues, the front guard is definitely not right, way too big and
    i shouldn't have to bend something that costs co much. Also the thing is super rickety, I felt like it was going to collapse when I tested it by sitting on it. Also if you take the lid off it looks like radio shack threw it together. Definitely look more if your looking for an incinerating toilet. For a $3500 toilet you think theyd put a little more effort into making a decent product.

      Thanks for commenting, Mark. You summed it up perfectly. It's insane that this appears to be the norm for this company. It still baffles me that I was treated with so much indifference. They either really believe they make a good product, or they are in so much financial trouble that they cant afford to do honest work, and are just biding their time until they go out of business. Who knows. But you are, i think the 4th or 5th person (that i know of) who's had a similar experience with EcoJohn. I hope they dont get away with these shenanigans for too much longer! 😏

  • @wicked5120
    @wicked5120 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    So after MUCH haranguing, TinyJohn sent me a replacement toilet - yeah! Unfortunately, this "new" model has many of the same issues as the original one. First use, it started to melt the seat again as well as the plastic dial doe the temp gauge. Spoke with Douglas in support and he suggested just using the "urine" cycle 2-3 times and would send me a firmware update to change the settings for the "waste" cycle so it wouldn't run as long or get as hot - never happened. He also said he would send me some additional insulation and a new fan setup so the fan could run independent of an actual urine or waste cycle but that never happened.
    I was able to use the toilet for @ a month, then the fan started making a racket, as if it was rubbing against some metal and then toilet got way too hot to touch after running a single urine cycle. Contacted Douglas again, he asked me to hook a 12 volt battery to the fan to see if it was running - you can hear the fan running as it is VERY loud. I sent him a video of the unit running and the racket it was making. He texted me back if I had checked to see if the mounting screw was rubbing against the fan - it is not. I also asked him about "all" the items he previously said he was going to send me (but didn't) and am now once again waiting to "hear" back from him. I haven't been able to use this thing for 7 months now . . .
    BTW, I looked at Cinderella and Cabin Depot in Canada (the primary dealer for North America) has them. One of your commenters below mentioned the "added cost" of the installation kit _ just yesterday posted to their (Cinderella's) Facebook page asking why the installation kit, which is required to install and use the toilet is considered an "Accessory"? Kind of like buyer a car and then being told the tires are an added cost "accessory" - I got this response -
    "Great analogy although I am not sure where the installation kit is listed as an accessory. If you can send me a DM we can look into it. "

    • @kslip
      @kslip  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wtf! Man, honestly I was so surprised to see you commented. You've been going through this for how long? 7+ months. Absolutely insane. Sounds like they definitely don't know how to manage the thermodynamics of their toilets. That's sad, but honestly the runaround you've been getting is way too normal for them. I have to commend you though for sticking with it and trying to get things figured out. I honestly don't understand how a company could be this bad and still exist. You shouldn't have to do all of this troubleshooting obviously.
      Yeah I'm very interested in the Cinderella unit too. It's expensive but "looks" like a good quality unit. Yeah, too bad about the installation kit not coming with the toilet. Have you figured out anything else with them? I hope this alternative toilet market grows and gets more mature in the US. We just don't have a lot of options here.

      Thank you sir, I appreciate your comment. No, it baffles me to this day. I've never encountered another company like this. They truly didn't care, and just blamed UPS for everything. The first thing they did when I called them is email me their terms of service which stated no refunds. Luckily, my credit card company backed me up and I was able to send the thing back and get a refund.
      I've had employees on here, writing nasty comments and treating me like I'm an idiot, and I'm pretty sure they paid a guy to leave a glowing review of their "new model". They have a nice looking website, but behind the scenes they are a very concerning company. It's too bad because there just aren't enough manufactures of these toilets especially in the USA. I ended up going with the only other option at the time, Incinolet. It's a great quality toilet, but of course it's electric which wasn't my first choice. I should probably make a video telling people about it though. Oh, and I'm not the only one who has had problems with EcoJohn. Did you get a finished toilet? Or did you get your money back? Or ever receive an apology from them?
    Sorry you went through this!
    We will not purchase this brand of toilet! There are others,
    The front cover is most likely easy to fit, it is most likely fit during final assembly along with all the flaws in the unit you received? Even when bent to fit, ( the front cover ) it will need the attachment hardware?
    It could have been damaged during shipping? But it does look unfinished!
    I would like to know if you received a finished toilet and how you like or enjoy it 😉.

      Thanks for your comment! From this company, I did not get a finished toilet or even an apology. They blamed the whole thing on shipping (ups). Even if ups was partially to blame, the whole thing was packaged very poorly. And there was no hardware included to attach the front cover. It seemed as if they rushed this unfinished product out to me after I had been politely asking about the status on it for months on end. It was shocking for how long they strung me along, and their complete lack of sympathy or customer support. I had to get my credit card company involved to receive my money back. For a while they sent some of their employees to this video to insult me and treat me like I was stupid for not wanting to deal with the problems and fix them myself. I deleted some of the more nasty comments.
      I ended up buying a less expensive Toilet from Incinolet. It is an electric WB model. 120v 1800W. It was properly packaged and shipped, in a timely manner, and with outstanding quality you would expect for the price. A night and day difference from EcoJohn. It works pretty good too, but I think most people prefer the higher voltage/wattage models when going electric. For an RV, this model was really my only choice as you only have so much power to work with.

      Thanks for the comment! I will check out your channel when I get some time. They were going to send me a replacement, but did not communicate as to when. Whenever I would reach out to them, they would claim they were waiting on more parts, and it was always "a few days out". And when I would follow up week after week it was always another excuse and another promise of the new one going to be "shipped out on Friday" or some arbitrary date. I was respectful to them too, so I don't understand why I was treated like this. The only thing I can think that possibly annoyed them was my following up via email every few weeks, and maybe one of my emails where I pointed out the quality issues of the initial unit, and my frustration with waiting so long. They definitely had no sympathy for me whatsoever. I only spent $3500 and waited 4+ months to receive that thing. ANY other company would've handled this 10x better. They refused to offer a refund on what I received, and then made me wait for some magical date in the future for a replacement. They were not forthcoming with information either. Any false promises I got were because I reached out and asked. Not only that, I've now had 2 of their employees get on here and insult me and treat me like I'm stupid for not "using some elbow grease" and fixing it up myself. One guy, I deleted his comments because he was getting rediculous with the childish insults. Apparently I'm a "crybaby" for complaining about the terrible customer service and the pile of junk my hard earned $3500 got me. The other guy Dave wilson I think it was? I left his comment up because although he was wrong, he didn't all out attack me. And by the way, I am very handy with tools and fixing things, but this is about standing up for myself and holding a company accountable for taking my money and screwing me over in return. I can't think of anyone who would spend good money on ANYTHING and receive it in the condition I did, and then happily fix it themselves. But that's exactly what EcoJohn expected me to do. Apparently they're are so accustomed to shipping out low quality products and having people just lay down and take it, that I threw them for a loop when I actually called them on it. Would you be ok with a new TV that "worked", but the sides and back were all broken? A new car, but it came with dents and scratches? Why is an Incinerating Toilet different? "Oh, but I must remember to think of it as a "tool" that requires a great deal maintenance." 😂 Oh in that case, thank you! I see the error in my thinking 🤣.
      Anyways, I disputed the EcoJohn charge with my credit card company, and won the case.
      I've been using my less expensive but much higher quality Incinolet toilet for at least a couple months now. I'm very happy with it! Yes it's electric and not propane like I initially wanted. I converted my 5th wheel to 50 amp service, wired a new 20 amp recepticle, and did some modifications to my bathroom to install this new toilet. Man it runs smooth, and it's quiet! Even better, I saved money, and Incinolet properly packaged the toilet and shipped it to me faster than the estimated time on their website. Night and day difference with how I was treated here.
      I've been meaning to upload a new video to show people how awesome Incinolet is, but have been busy with work lately. Hopefully I will get the chance soon!

      @@ceefiveceefive Thank you! And I'm glad you're doing well with your Eco John. I apologise for my rant. Obviously people have had success with them.
      There's definitely some trade-offs between propane and electric. I would've preferred to save money on electricity and just refill propane, but it IS convenient. Also I can always run my generator when I'm off grid, so that's nice too.
      I have the Incinolet 120v WB Model which is rated for marine and rv use. The nice thing about this model is it comes with a mounting plate so you can secure it to the floor. You need a dedicated 20 amp breaker and recepticle for this. The plug will only fit into a 20 amp outlet. It draws around 18 amps as the heating element cycles off and on for a default time of 60 minutes. You can also take the cover off and adjust the timer lower or higher. But 60 minutes seems to be the minimum time on this 120v model to get a complete incineration of solids. According to the manual, 1 cycle uses about 1 1/2 to 2 kilowatt hours of electricity. I don't remember what I calculated for my per use cost. I'll have to figure that out again.

    Initially I thought this review was a little too negative since I've had my TinyJohn sitting in my unfinished cabin for a while now. However, I just hooked it up and used it this morning, much to my dismay! Everything seemed to be fine, display read "READY' so I pushed the "Waste" button and the display now reads "NO TRAY"! But the tray IS IN THERE.
    I took the base plate off to check and the tray is inserted and latched as it should be. In looking at the interior, there appears to possibly be a switch that COULD be "pushed in" by the tray when it's inserted that may be used to verify to the unit the tray is inserted. However, the way that switch is aligned, the tray would NEVER activate it since the switch mechanism is aligned so that even if the tray was latched in there, it wouldn't activate the switch - the "button" that would be pushed in is on the SIDE of the switch mechanism and would NEVER be touched by the tray.
    Even then, I tried manually pushing the switch in to see if that would alert the unit that a tray was inserted, but the display still read "NO TRAY".
    This thing is WAY TOO DAM EXPENSIVE to have any issues like this (or ANY issues at all)!

      @@kslip - I am working with them. Based on initial discussions, the unit shipped with the thermostat set too high. There's a dial inside the back of the unit that is supposed to be set at 160 - 180 degrees F - mine was set somewhere between 200 - 210 degrees. The dial was pretty distorted as well from all the heat. QA/QC leaves a lot to be desired.

      @@kslip - Unfortunately I bought this back in the fall of 2019 and wasn't able to install it until this past week as I've been working on a small cabin. I looked at the Incinolet, but don't have the ability to run a 220 line to it. I also looked at the Cinderella, but as you said it's prohibitively expensive - @ $4,400.00 + tax for the propane model.
      EcoJohn tech support just texted me to do a video call to try to resolve the problem. I just want to get the dam thing working properly. I'm thinking the overheating from the first use created additional problems beyond the melting and "No Tray" issue.
      I used a chargeback years ago for a $2,000.00 slide in Jennair electric range I bought. It started sending out sparks the first time I used it and the second time just died commpletely. The retailer wanted to just "fix" it (it wasn't even a week old). I said no and contacted Discover and they did a chargeback. I suspect there's 100 or even 1,000s more people that don't bother commenting but will silently look elsewhere for their toilet solution. It would be helpful if the company at least commented on this thread and said they were going to fix the issue. The fit of the toilet seat with the metal beneath is really putting me off. As is the lack of customer service. Please respond tiny john! I also want them to post pictures of how their finished product is supposed to look.

    • @kslip
      @kslip  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish someone from EcoJohn would see this video and respond. I'm pessimistic of course that they would even be honest in their response and not blame everything on me... But who knows? It might be one of those he said she said type of things but hope that people could watch my video and see that I'm being honest, albeit could have been more professional. It was my first video, and I never just go online to trash companies. I hardly ever leave negative reviews but I feel EcoJohn deserved this one. I sincerely dont want people to go through what I went through and am still dealing with. I can tell you from my side of course that I did reach out to EcoJohn respectfully and requested a refund. I also told them that I felt like there were some quality issues and that my order could have been packaged better. They denied that the damage/problems had anything to do with them, and blamed it all on FedEx. I admitted that yes, FedEx could have handled it better. EcoJohn told me they would file a claim with FedEx and promptly send me a new unit. And this is where one of my main issues with them starts: They continuously told me that my new unit would ship soon and it never did. Even before this while I was waiting for the first one to arrive, I had to constantly contact them and ask when my order would ship. This was after waiting patiently past their 4 week shipping time frame. This whole issue is also complicated by Covid-19. They mentioned that they were experiencing delays in their supply chain. I understood this and waited patiently. But the bottom line for me is that I placed my order in early February, and received this highly questionable toilet mid April. You might have read one of the comments of a guy telling me to "just use some elbow grease" and fix everything my self. That's not the issue here at all. Eco John initially gave me two options. 1, send the damaged unit back and upon them receiving it in "good condition" they would issue a refund. 2. Have them file a FedEx claim and send me a new unit. They promptly sent me a PDF of their terms of purchase as well. Feeling like I was backed into a corner because there's no way they would receive a damaged unit in good condition, I had them file the FedEx claim. Again over a month passed and the "new unit" never arrived. They kept claiming supply chain delays and asked me to be patient, but at the same time kept promising me that my new toilet would ship on specific days or weeks. And that's where they lost me. Don't make promises you can't keep. Just be honest and tell me you don't know when it will ship. That's it. Honesty is worth something to me. After this, I decided to file a credit card dispute, and am still waiting for it to close. Luckily my credit card company gave me a refund, but the dispute is still technically open, so there's a small chance EcoJohn may send me a toilet someday. But they haven't been happy with me for filing the dispute, and at this point I am under the impression that they are purposely dragging this out as long as they can. If I am sent a new toilet at some point, I will post another video and do another review. Long story long though, im with you, and hope EcoJohn responds! If they don't respond honestly though and own up to a some things...I just hope people can read through the lines.

      Also, if you go to the EcoJohn website and watch the TH-cam video in their TinyJohn page; If you look closely, that IS how the toilet seat fits to the rim. Mine looked slightly worse though. I've scoured the internet looking for other reviews on EcoJohn, and surprisingly there isn't much, especially since they've been in business for over 10 years. There is a Google Review (besides mine) where the guy complained about the quality and problems, and they just dismissed him and said his model is over 10 years old and they "have newer models now". Also, I found their Indeed Jobs page, and it looks like they had a few employees leave bad reviews because of management and not having the supplies to do their job. I can't make this up. Take it how you want, because I'm obviously very salty against this company, but it seems to me that they might be having some money issues among other problems.

      I am really sorry to hear you are having trouble too. The quickest way to get a refund is to dispute the charge with your credit card company. Mine would let me dispute any charge within the last 6 months. Of course I called and emailed EcoJohn many times before I disputed the charge, but they weren't willing to refund my money unless I paid to send the toilet back, and they received it in "good condition", which was of course rediculous. I would dispute the charge as you received damaged goods. You can email EcoJohn and let them know you are disputing the charge, and to send you a shipping label so you can send the toilet back. Either that, or you can dispute the charge, and wait for EcoJohn to call or email you. Either way, they won't be happy, and will most likely tell you you are going about it the wrong way and that it will take a long time to get your money back (not true). They might also try and convince you they will win the dispute. They did all of the above with me through email. Just don't believe them. The credit card company will favor you, and EcoJohn will have to pay return shipping. But you will need to send it back. Let me know if you have any other questions!

      @@amandatempesta2841 You're welcome! I really hope it all works out. So, your credit card company might be different with what details they ask. I used my citi visa card, and was able to initiate the dispute online. I was surprised at how little information they requested. Just what the items were I was disputing, and whether I hadn't received it, or had received it damaged. There was literally nothing else they wanted to know, like how long I had been trying to work with eco john, etc etc. The nice thing though is that they refunded me instantly while they investigated, although the refund was conditional pending the outcome. I called their dispute department and asked for advice on how to send the toilet back, and gave them a few more details. So I'm not sure how your credit card company might be different, but I would save any emails you sent or received from EcoJohn, and try to remember the dates when you called them. Just in case the credit card company asks. I think it would just be helpful to show that you did try and resolve this in some way with EcoJohn first. But then again, my credit card company barely needed any information, which was good in a way, but disappointing, because I had a lot to give!

    • @kslip
      @kslip  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, I just wanted to add, I'm not sure how long you've been dealing with this? Or if you've been talking with EcoJohn already about it? If it hasn't been too long, you could try to email EcoJohn and ask them if you could return it. But just warning you, when I did that, they immediately sent me a "terms of purchase" document, and gave me 2 options: Send it back, and if it's not damaged -Refund, or let them send me a replacement. I initially fell for it, and wanted them to send me a replacement. But it never happened and they kept making up excuses that they were waiting on parts. So if you go that route, just make sure they send you a shipping label so you don't have to pay to return it, OR hold them accountable and make sure they send you a tracking number on the date they say they will send your replacement. Just be aware that in my case, they made alot of empty promises. That's why I told you first that the quickest way to a refund would be to dispute the charge with your credit card company. I think the scales are tilted in your favor here, regardless if you've had a lot of communication with EcoJohn or not beforehand. You paid a lot of money for this Toilet, and it should be in perfect condition. If EcoJohn won't take it back right away, and pay return shipping, then I think you have a right to dispute the charge. Also, if I've won a case against them, and you are having issues with them... Chances are we aren't the only ones here. I'm sure the credit card companies keep track of the bad businesses who consumers file disputes against. Anyways good luck with however you decide to proceed here!

    I wish I would have seen this before buying it. Don’t do it. Their system is a pice of shit. Poor craftsmanship. Zero customer support. We followed directions and set up the system, but one of the fuses burnt out. They accused us of connecting it incorrectly, which it was connected properly. He did replace the part and also set some additional parts that weren’t part of the original toilet. Makes you wonder why they didn’t include those with the original. The gas line leaked. The controller must be connected to Wi-Fi. You pay extra for the non-Wi-Fi control switch, which makes no sense either for an offgrade toilet. We could never get it to connect to Wi-Fi. Then the buttons for controlling, the toilet itself didn’t work. And then we set the LED display on the side of the toilet. It slipped in and fell 6 inches and broke off one of the doors to the incineration tank. Multiple calls super slow response time. They said we can mail it back to have them fix. Whatever’s broken at our shipping expense both ways. I’ve sent them five emails requesting a time that I can call and speak to someone but they are just ignoring me. Their hours are 8 AM to 3 PM East Coast time. When we had time and people available to help install it, they were never available. Sent emails that took two or three weeks for them to respond. I don’t want occasion they use the excuse that they see our email because it was in their junk spam folder. But they had responded to other emails. Then they reluctantly gave us a 24 hour period to return our system and then when we didn’t see their email they said we were out of luck. When we pointed out these issues, they basically said we can sell it ourselves. What a joke. Don’t waste your time or money.

      That infuriated me all over again just reading your experience. I can't believe there are this terrible of companies out there. Eco John really stands out as one of the worst. It must be severely depressing just working there or being affiliated with them in any way. But then again there is definitely a level of complacency with management and employees.. Their whole operation is pretty much in scam territory.
      If you haven't got a refund yet, you might still be able to dispute the original payment with your credit card company. It doesn't hurt your credit score to stick up for yourself in that way. My credit card had a 6 month window to dispute charges, and that's what I did. It certainly pissed them off, because I got an angry email after they found out, but I got my money back.

      Thanks, I appreciate the comment! The only other one I had really looked at was from Incinolet. I actually bought one from them before I went through this whole incident. The price was at least $1,000 less if I remember right, and they actually sent it to me exactly when they said they would. Their outer packaging looked much better too. I only returned it because I wanted to use it in my RV, and I decided 120V at 20amps would be too much of a load for my 30 amp trailer. But the whole experience with Incinolet was so much better. Night and day difference. They refunded my money with no issues when I sent it back. I just wish they had a propane model. This was the whole reason I decided to try EcoJohn. Unfortunately I haven't seen any others yet who make propane toilets at a decent price. It just seems like the price goes up to $4,000+ for the next contenders. I'll be doing more research on it, as I really really wanted this to work out with EcoJohn. Again, never been treated so badly...

      william roberts Because of this review, I’m wondering how well an incinolet powered by a Honda 2200i would work for an RV setup. Also, could the incinolet be ran while driving? Finally, has incinolet though about offering a propane powered toilet?
      Thanks,

      We do have people that use generators but you would need at least a 2500 to run the toilet. I would think it would run fine while driving the boat model works fine. We were thinking about a propane model but it was going to cost too omuch to design and test so we are working more with solar.

      No. EcoJohn had to send me a ups shipping label because I disputed the charge with my credit card company. They had to get their toilet back or they would've lost double the amount. The credit card company said they would refund the shipping charges if I had to pay out of pocket.

    I currently have a TinyJohn. We have had it for about a year and a half now. The customer service that I have experienced has been amazing, they are always quick to respond to any question that I may have. They are always improving the TinyJohn too. The toilet lid that you refer to being crooked is supposed to be a slightly loose "floating", it probably shifted during transit. Try moving it to straighten it out, it doesn't take much effort. The front tray cover is magnetic, and it probably got warped during transit too, just use some elbow grease and fix the shape, just squeeze it together. Fedex wasn't easy on my TinyJohn either. A couple of screws also rattled loose on mine, but if you take a few mins you can find the screw(s) and put them back in. Remove the back cover, there are four screws, then locate the screws and put them back where they came from. The unit is tipping forward when you sit on it because you need apply the pad under the front, it looks like a felt pad that you put under furniture legs. If you are complaining about these minor things, then an incinerating toilet isn't for you. I hope you realize there is constant maintenance with these. It is straight forward, but you will have to empty the ash tray before it gets too full, you will also have to remove the exhaust fan every 500ish burn cycles, clean out the fan (very important) and catalytic converter (if you have one), you should also make sure the burner intake fan is clean every other month. And don't forget that you have to clean out the chimney pipe too. You are going to have to be the technician and mechanic for this or any other incinerating toilet you purchase, so it's best that you open it up and get comfortable with how it works, otherwise you will be like a lost blind dog. This is an incinerating toilet, they tried their best to make it look like a real porcelain toilet. But the reality is, you can't compare this to a porcelain toilet, this is more of a tool than anything. You probably got bad customer service because the first thing you did was verbally attack them instead of working with them to find out a solution.

    • @kslip
      @kslip  4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      You sound like you work for them. Really trying hard to defend something that should arrive in perfect shape for the money spent ($3500). The ash tray cover on mine was not magnetic. They weren't installed on mine. I am the mechanical type and could fix some of these issues but I shouldn't have to. They couldn't even package it properly. How do you know that the first thing I did was attack them? You don't know, because I didn't. I reached out to them respectfully again and again, and was constantly lied to. Just because you had a good experience with them doesn't mean mine was any less valid. The felt pad you're talking about Is there. It should have just been another rubber foot the same size as the others. That pad is pointless. Still tips forward. The lid is supposed to be crooked and I should just fix everything and take stuff apart? Get out of here with that... The point is for the company to send you a quality product from the start and not take your money and lie to you. I waited months to get that piece of crap. Dont start blowing smoke that you have to be mechanically inclined to fix a brand new toilet before you use it. Again not even the point here. You didn't even come with any substance in your comment. Just assumptions.

      lol. Hey, good for you! But your assumption is exactly the lame excuse EcoJohn is trying to peddle. This was 100% terrible customer service and lies from EcoJohn after asking where my order was. If it was a covid issue, why didn't they say it from the start, instead of promising it would be shipped? And once I did receive it, terrible packaging job. Not enough foam surrounding the toilet, and nothing wrapped in plastic or taped down. The quality was a joke as well. As far as EcoJohn taking any kind of responsibility, or trying to make things right? Forget about it. Again, good for you, but I've never dealt with a more amature and unprofessional business in my life.

      @@kslip Sorry to hear that you had communication issues with them, maybe their suppliers had issues with delivering parts? Like I said, our unit showed up on time and it has worked flawlessly. • @kslip

      @@amberc1128 Sounds like you're an employee at Ecojohn! I've had a few of them on here. How is the pay and benefits? Anyway, that's nice of you to defend them. Nothing to say about the poor packaging job? There definitely was communication issues with employees at Ecojohn. I used every means available to communicate with them. I used the chat box on the website. I used email. I called them. The responses i received were usually "Your toilet will ship next friday at the latest". Or "Tomorrow". I ended up waiting 2 months!! The problem i have with Ecojohn is they did not proactively reach out to me even ONE time. First of all, if there were covid delays, a professional company would have listed it on their website and updated their shipping time frame to 2 months. That would have been the honest and professional thing to do. But they acted like it was business as usual and took my money anyway. A professional business would have proactively sent emails to customers stating there would be delays. There was no common courtesy or professionalism at EcoJohn. I politely reached out to them almost weekly after my order passed the 4 week time frame. Each time instead of being honest, they promised that my order would ship on a certain day. I only followed up my chats or emails when they didn't ship my product. After not telling me what was going on, they finally said Yes, there's issues related to covid and getting parts, but ONLY after I suggested it!! After 2 months of waiting I received a heap of junk that looked like someone's uncle had assembled in their backyard from spare parts. It was so disgraceful and dishonest how Ecojohn then blamed UPS, when it was clearly a lack of packaging, and poor quality. The best thing Ecojohn could do is to reply to me officially (instead of send their employees to pretend like happy customers) and own up to their mistakes, apologize, and show other potential customers that they can be professional and make things right. This whole mess probably took 4 months of my time when you factor in waiting for a replacement that was never coming, and finally filing a despute with the credit card company because Ecojohn wouldn't accept returns. If I were Ecojohn, I'd get on here and own up to everything and apologize, and offer to send me a new toilet free of charge for my troubles 😆.
