The BAFTAs ARE the British Oscars. Him saying it there is just as important as him saying it in the US. Racism is a global issue and let's not forget he said it on the biggest platform in a country that is so racist that they ran a biracial woman out of the country for marrying one of their princes. The brits needed to hear that.
And also, let's try thinking a little more globally. Just because something happens outside of America doesn't mean it doesn't matter.

There seems on the face of it more open racism in America ,but from my experiences in Angoland/England ,they are very skilful at hiding their racism and as a result of our intergenerational mental conditioning ,we all to often fall foul in believing our open enemy ,the native Americans said it best (WHITE MAN SPEAK WITH FORK TONGUE).

Travis Simpson; Your comments is so true. I live here in the UK and I can tell you they're all racist, from the royal family to the ordinary white people. They don't like when you call them out about racism you're accuse of using the race card. The whole world can see the way they treated Meghan prince Harry's wife. The media shows how racist the uk is,you just have to look at the racism against her.
They just used her to make the world think that the UK is diverse and not racist, thats a load of BS. The fact that they claim prince Harry and his wife' were the worst thing to happen to the royal and not the alleged pedophile prince Andrew, tells you everything. Notice how the queen make sure she is seen supporting him, the media over here hardly cover the story about him, but instead praise him for being the queens rock tells you all you need to know.

STuBBs ThaHat59 :Right. And how many years ago was it, Clint Eastwood ' come talkin' bout" there's a whole lot of talking going on" about the very thing Joaqhim is voicing. Eastwood, who did his Chair scene slam of Obama. Let's not forget Whoopy making some silly cracks when she hosted the A.A. All about money and your career being on the line. Joachim is as big a star as it gets; he took a hiatus from the scene for a time, and he's still big box office. Roland is right. This will be heard around the industry, Hollywood in particular. They get it. They just don't want to hear it. Look at the faces of some of the whites in the audience; like, surprise he even went there.

As for M.B.Jordan, I commend the brother, but he is part of our community, so I expect nothing less from this young remarkable actor. He's doing what's expected of him as part of our family. I wouldn't compare a speech from a person who has benefited as he stated from white supremacy. To a black man who understands and lives within the system. Great first start but there need to be many more following not only his words but living out those words with action. Thanks Roland.

Some folks are never satisfied. They complain when no one says anything. Then when someone does they whine it's not enough. That's why we do not have as many allies as we could. Malik is so confused he didn't know that TV movies and specials do not win Oscars. America was under British rule centuries ago. The UK was the RIGHT place to say it. Joaquin Phoenix is not the kind of guy who does things for clout or applause. He's much more organic. He isn't a Hollyweird phony. He was speaking in a mostly European country, with most European people that THEY are the problem and also THE solution. I loved his speech. I love when Caucasians sincerely stand against racism.

The older I get the easier it is for me to understand why other races take advantage of us. We prop whites up as “powerful” which is why we “need” them to “speak for us”.
Maybe you younger people think what dude is saying is “groundbreaking” but guess what young people, white people make these statements every 10-20 years and we get all warm inside til they go back ignoring us and we bitch and moan until one of them “tell the truth” and we get all warm and gushy inside til they go back ignoring us..........

What is stopping the blacks from starting their own award shows and Hollywood industries?

  • @Dante-qf9yd

My experience with the entertainment industry. Not acting, though while living in California, I did have a lot of calls to be in movies, but I never took or tried to call them back. I was living in a mission in South Central California at the time, where a white policeman pulled a gun on me without reason. But sometimes we are our worst enemies, and who can take the blame or responsibility for that? I eventually moved from California with all of it's good and bad experiences. I would hear on our local urban radio station how they would sometime need donations, maybe to contribute to someones aid in an emergency. So I thought they were a people that was in tune to what we struggle to achieve. But when I called our local radio station and inquired how to get music played on their station, I got a cold reply of, "We don't play independent artists!" She was rude and I wanted to know her name at Radio One. She said her name reluctantly "Cocoa." This is 93 FM WZAK. I asked to speak to the program director, he wouldn't come to the phone and she abruptly hung up. At that point, I stopped believing in any unity. You see, I just asked what were the requirements to be on air, because I went through the legal formalities to establish my own label. Hollywood is the least of the problem when your own, practices the same nature of discrimination amongst their kind. At least Tyler Perry is doing something positive for opportunities and employment.

These foos are wild... that took mad courage... especially so far from home... they’re trippin that there wasn’t any brothas or sistas in the room but that was the whole point of his speech. It’s only when the duality is neutralized on both sides of the pole that there will be true progress... and I do innerstand that we are in a dualistic realm... however this doesn’t mean that one cannot strive to rise above their own humanity by stepping into the spiritual. 👊🏽

I applaud him for persevering and squeezing it out under the pressure of being watched by white supremacy, but what you really should be talking about is the reactions of the majority of those peckerwoods! The only ones clapping were the few blacks and the very few non racist whites, but the rest of those pink skins you can see it in their eyes and the expression of their faces, they were appalled and or disgusted. Just a prediction, I think Phoenix's career is going to take a hit, or be given a warning caus white supremacy have been taking too many losses lately and it can't afford for any white boy to be jumping on the bandwagon to uplifting blacks. That response is the majority of they're kind feel, that's what needs to be changed and it can only be done by white folks not by us.

Systematic is difficult to combat when you’re white, because you don’t see it. Even the ones of us that knows it’s there, don’t know what to do to fix it. People like these people make it difficult too. When we do try and do something, we are accused of virtue signaling. We are accused of having ulterior motives, and many other things. It makes a lot of people feel like it’s not worth getting involved. I know it’s not supposed to be easy, and I know that the struggles black people have are far worse. I’m just bringing up a point that, we don’t need credit for doing the right thing, but we shouldn’t be attacked when we do because it could have been done better, or we should be doing more. Everyone in this comment section should be doing more if we want the problems fixed as much as all of us say we do.
