  • In this Mexico travel vlog, we take you on a journey to Boca de Tomatlán, a picturesque fishing village located about 11 miles south of Puerto Vallarta, where the Horcones River meets the Pacific Ocean. Nestled amidst the lush Sierra Madre mountains, this small village is known for its tranquil beach, vibrant local culture, and as a gateway to some of the region's most secluded and beautiful beaches. Boca de Tomatlán offers a peaceful retreat from the busier tourist areas, making it an ideal destination for travelers seeking a blend of relaxation and adventure.
    GETTING TO BOCA DE TOMATLÁN
Reaching Boca de Tomatlán from Puerto Vallarta is easy and scenic. You can take a 30-minute drive along Highway 200, which offers stunning views of the Pacific coastline and surrounding jungle. Public buses and taxis are readily available from Puerto Vallarta, with buses leaving regularly from the corner of Basillo Badillo and Constitución streets in the Zona Romántica. The drive itself is part of the experience, as it winds through lush greenery and provides occasional glimpses of the sparkling ocean below.
WHAT TO DO IN BOCA DE TOMATLAN?
// Relax on the Beach: Boca de Tomatlán's small beach is perfect for unwinding. The calm waters are ideal for swimming, and the beach is less crowded than those in Puerto Vallarta, offering a serene environment to soak up the sun.
// Kayaking and Paddleboarding: The tranquil waters make Boca de Tomatlán an excellent spot for kayaking and paddleboarding. Rent equipment locally and explore the coastline at your own pace.
// Explore Secluded Beaches: Boca de Tomatlán is the launching point for water taxis (pangas) that take you to some of the most beautiful, hidden beaches in the region, such as Las Animas, Colomitos, Quimixto, and Yelapa. These beaches are only accessible by boat or hiking, offering a unique and pristine beach experience.
// Hiking: The village is surrounded by jungle-covered hills, making it a great starting point for hiking. One popular trail leads to Colomitos Beach, a tiny but stunning cove about a 30-minute hike away. The trail offers breathtaking views and the chance to spot local wildlife.
// Dining: Boca de Tomatlán has a few beachfront restaurants where you can enjoy fresh seafood and traditional Mexican dishes. The food is often prepared with the day's catch, ensuring a delicious and authentic meal. Dining here with the sound of waves and views of the sunset is an unforgettable experience.
INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT BOCA DE TOMATLAN
// Gateway to Adventure: Boca de Tomatlán is not just a destination but a starting point for many adventures. The water taxis here provide access to beaches that are otherwise inaccessible, making it a key location for exploring the region’s hidden gems.
// Ecotourism: The area around Boca de Tomatlán is rich in biodiversity. Birdwatchers will find the surrounding jungle and mangroves full of local and migratory bird species. It's also common to spot dolphins and sometimes even humpback whales in the waters off the coast.
// Cultural Experience: Unlike the more touristy areas of Puerto Vallarta, Boca de Tomatlán retains an authentic village atmosphere. The local community is friendly, and visitors often get a glimpse of traditional Mexican coastal life, from fishermen bringing in their daily catch to local celebrations and traditions.
Boca de Tomatlán offers a unique blend of natural beauty, tranquility, and authentic local culture, making it a must-visit destination for those exploring the Puerto Vallarta area. Whether you're looking for adventure, relaxation, or a bit of both, this charming village has something to offer everyone.
    Happy travels!
