That's actually how it works in most voice acting roles, each voice actor is in a recording booth/studio one at a time. It's due to several different factors: mic sensitivity, stepping over each other's lines, rewrites, and quite frankly, it makes editing easier too.
I think either their has to be another interview he did with Howard that's scrubbed from the internet or they asked him that maid question while on commercial break.
