this band were one of the best harmonizing bands ever. they also had the smoothest transitions in their songs. this track was a brilliant example of both. ty for this reaction

In the 70’s when I got home from school/work I would come home and listen to music, and not watch tv. I would either listen to albums, or listen to the Rock of Boston, WBCN.

"Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" takes the unrequited love song to new places. Judy Collins took the Joni Mitchell composition "Both Sides, Now" to the top of the charts in 1968. Song birds and angels supply apt metaphors for describing her singing voice. Collins also has intensely blue eyes. They seemed to sparkle when she sang her songs on television way back when I was a kid. Classic song.

Such a classic from a wonderful album. I was freshman when this album was released and I already had the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield and the Hollies in my record collection. This is a record that I return to often and it holds a lifetime of memories. Thanks for reacting and giving this music a listen.

@@deepdivemusicreactions - Great that you listen to whole albums. Your appreciation of the music is clear.
Hearing this album by CSN as a teenager was a special experience, and this music will stay with me forever.
You have already touched Crosby, Stills, Nash (& Young), so that leaves the solo albums by Stephen Stills, David Crosby and Graham Nash. Stephen Stills created an unforgettable song (Love The One You're With) on his' first solo album, and David Crosby has some of the most beautiful songs on his.
You know Zappa, so maybe me mentioning "Suzy Creamcheese" and "Billy The Mountain" may ring a bell. If not, have a listen to his earliest material. And if you do so; please please listen to his 3rd album "Cruising With Ruben & The Jets". There you will get Zappa doing doo-wop, disguising his controversial Mothers Of Invention band so that he finally would be played on the radio. It worked.
Also: Check out the YT-video of 22 year old Frank Zappa's first TV appearance on the Steve Allen show, playing music with drumsticks hitting all parts of a bicycle : th-cam.com/video/HYmf1qLMVxk/w-d-xo.html
Depending on your acquaintance with The Beatles, I would love to hear you react to their whole catalogue, from beginning to end.
Want to experiment ? : The Fugs. A very weird band from the USA, with some catchy music. I know of two albums they made (one is called "It Crawled Into My Hand, Honestly").
Now I'm going to listen to your series of Neil Young's Harvest and Déjà Vu.

We learned about this song in one of my high school English classes - probably about seven years after it came out. They discussed the alliteration of the line, “lacey lilting lady losing love lamenting …”

Even before Crosby Stills and Nash there was Buffalo Springfield, which featured Stephen Stills and Neil Young. They had several hits including "For What it's Worth" and "Bluebird" two great songs.

This song was featured in the Woodstock (1969) Movie. Steve Stills was sitting on a stool, playing an out-of-tune acoustic guitar while Crosby and Nash stood around the mic. Even with an out-of-tune guitar it was a magical performance and it boosted C,S,N, &Y into the realm of supergroup status.

You mentioned Flo & Eddie, WOW‼️ I was 21, in L A (from Illinois), & during my year in L A, I listened to the Greatest FM Radio station of my 69 year old life : KMET! And there they had a show!
So yeah, I had learned that they were the force behind the pop songs of The Turtles, (groovy) but, their show! Not pop …EXPERIMENTAL! They made audio collages/splices of multiple songs, blew my innocent little mind, I must say. Thanks for the memories!

I remember when I first saw this album cover, wondering why they are seated out of order (Nash, Stills & Crosby). Here's why; on the way to the studio early in the the recording process, before they had chosen a name for their group, they drove past this abandoned house with the old couch on the porch. As they had a friend/photographer along, they stopped and took some casual pics. All agreed this pic fit their style best...but later that same day...after they had settled on CSN, they went back to retake the pic in correct seating order...but the house had been torn down.

The line between Zappa, & CSN goes straight through Laurel Canyon in the mid-late 60s. Zappa lived on the corner of Lookout Mtn Way & Laurel Canyon... Mama Cass had a house right up the street. Mama Cass introduced the members of CSN to each other at a party, & thats when they became a band. It was a very open community, especially amongst musicians, & they all used to hang out quite frequently. Laurl Canyon at that time is a large chunk of Rock history

This song is the best breakup revenge ever. Get dumped, go to Mexico, meet someone else, write a song about it, make a bunch of money. Judy Collins was a beautiful woman and a great singer, but infamous for short lived relationships back in the day.

  • @MrRondonmon

Its three different song in one hence "Suite" Judy Blue Eyes. Judy Collins broke up with Stills, and he couldn't get over her. He tried writing three songs but couldn't finish any of them 🤣hence his bandmates were like, lets just put all three into one song and call it Suite Judy Blue Eyes (wanting to move on no doubt). HENCE the three different sounds in the song.

Almost all the instruments on this song (guitars/bass/organ, everything but Dallas Taylor on drums) was played by Stills. Which is why they added Young when they needed to go on the road. The record company brought in Glyn Johns at the last to make sure the vocals were loud enough, pushing everything else into the background.

    • @deepdivemusicreactions

@@deepdivemusicreactions Crosby is a really gifted rhythm guitar player. You'll hear him prominently when you get to Wooden Ships. Nash plays rhythm as well but more of a background player. Stills was nicknamed 'Captain Manyhands' for his work on this and the final Buffalo Springfield album, where he did similar multi-instrumental duties.
