The fact that he was so precise and meticulous in his decision making in order to pull it off, and then for the last hour basically closed his eyes and randomly clicked around the screen while talking to chat, and this didn't cause him to throw away the previous 5 hours was incredibly impressive and stress inducing lol
By far the biggest factor was delaying space port for so long when he could have had Sky and Stars to boost its production 30% and then reap the huge science and production boost from having it.
There's definitely improvements that could have been made. Personally, I would have taken the Lady of the Reeds and Marshes Pantheon for the, frankly, stupid amount of Production from it (also food because the 3/2 tiles would have replaced other weaker tiles he worked for a long time like the 2/1 hills). I'd have also bought the Lighthouse and second trader much sooner.
His biggest mistake by far is not aggressively pillaging Gaul's Spaceports the second he built one. This would not have been a competitive finish had he done that.
1:28:32 I’m a new Civ6 player and until now I thought the Limes card was “Lines” (kinda like walls form lines). I looked it up after this little discussion and learned that “Limites” (the plural of limes) delineated the fortified frontiers of the Roman Empire. Cool beans.
The extended policy cards mod deceived you. The rationalism card wasn't only +9 science. See how much your science jumped at 5:01:50 and how much it dropped at 5:19:04. I obsessed over this for the last 2 hours of the video but that is on me. thanks for the content!
I want to see a one city domination victory. You must raze all enemy cities you capture (though you can ignore cities and go for the capital if you like). When you capture the capital, you must either peace out the AI and return the city, or (if it's their last city and you can't) pillage EVERYTHING to prevent yields, produce nothing, and allow it to flip to a free city at the earliest opportunity. You could try the Raze Capitals mod but AFAIK razing them doesn't count as conquering them for the purposes of domination.
Then just a score victory with a set turn to end would suffice I think to finish this out. If he doesn't take out all caps before the end turn, he loses!
Finally won my first game of (vanilla) civ 6 on deity. Feels good man. Maybe I was just incredibly unlucky on prior attempts, but it seemed like every time one or more of the AIs had an insurmountable tech lead by turn 150 or so; however this time I managed to keep on par throughout the game. I couldn't have done it without Potato vids, so thank you.
hey, your videos inspired my attempt on one-city-chalenge, and I actually got it first try (i was scared to play Deity, so i won on Immortal, but i did some mistakes). I played Pericles with barbarian clans for even more city-states and did tourism victory. I am so pleased with myself :) 1300 culture from 1 city feels soooo good!
Watching this a year later after we got the new barbarian mode and chuckling every time I hear people spitballing ideas for a barbarian mode. I love the barbarian mode we got.
To see yields show up on the cards, you need to use both the "Better Reports Screen" mod and the "Extended Policy Cards" mod. Maybe people in the video will stop asking now!

I really hope civ will get enough of attention and money they can finally improve the AI tho, as happy as I am seeing this, I think it kinda shouldnt be allowed :D Tnx for entertaining us though that depressive times!
Actually, with the Religions founded graph being split four times by turn 85, that means each divider is about 21 turns, so Gaul would have had to have founded their religion by turn 16 or so.
1:04:25 Funny you should mention it, I've done a lot of theory crafting and you can put The Huns into civ 6 as a civilization that basically acts as barbarians -- they can only raze cities (or turn them into free cities) and start the game with three horsemen instead of a settler and warrior.
@@williambarraclough8712 they'd probably start with a barbarian camp that auto generates horsemen and the like and get an additional camp each time they burn down a city, and can buy units with gold and the units cost less or 0 or something to maintain. It'd be kind of out there since civ 6 is all about city planning, but the human player never really gets to be the "barbarian" so I thought it'd be fun
Impossible creatures! Never played it in its prime, but that game! Oh, that game! Come to think of it, I’ve never played more than an hour of that game, so no idea why i feel so nostalgic when that got mentioned in this stream.
Mass of horse: 380-1000kg Mass of duck: 0.7-1.2kg Should be 500 duck-sized horses, not 50, to make it equivalent to a single horse-sized duck :) (Also: Hello, algorithm :) )
Too late to ask probably, but I'll try. Why did you never put a castle by the tea industry? There where featureless tiles south of it in the late game when your castles were destroyed. Did you just not notice or is there another limitation for castles?
A barbarian mod but killing enemy units gives you production, faith or gold (idk) along with pillaging yields are higher and you can build or buy units with the production you earn by killing and you can buy a new outpost idk how to put it into words but that type of scenerio could be cool.
It would be cool if you start out as a barbarian camp and you start with the same as a barbarian camp (1 scout and 1 spearman) and your scout has to scout and find cities and the only way to spawn more units is he has to make it back to the camp and each time he touches the city and comes back to the camp is one unit, similar to how it actually works. Then if you're able to take over a city is when you can start handling a city like normal but you're always at war with everyone and they all want to attack you to take over your city state. If you lose your camp and city states you re-spawn somewhere random on the map with all fog of war back and you have to start over again. The only way to win is domination.
Hey potato I’m not sure if this will work but it’s worth a try Try going for a heroic tales and 1 turn make a save (quick save would do) if you get a hero like Beowulf for this play through it would be quite bad so you could load the turn before or alternatively if you had auto saves on you can speed this up by reloading the exact turn heroic tales finishes
I know it's not the point of the stream but I agree. There's no danger from duck sized horses regardless of numbers. Animals that size are only dangerous if they have fangs, claws or venom. An able bodied human just needs to remain standing and stomp. A horse sized duck would be a real threat, who knows what would happen but it'd be ugly.
In Argument to your duck/horse debate..🤣..the legendary boxer Roberto Duran was rumored to have knockedout a horse. At the time he was prob fighting at 130lbs. I don’t think any animal is really made to absorb blows to the brain (prob woodpecker now that I think about it)...if the duck grows with the same physics then surely it will grow with the same amount of intelligence. And no teeth...idk if 50 tiny horses r worse but I think the human has a chance at the big duck horse. 🐎🦆

Its actually not that bad of a pantheon if you go for a one city challenge with vampires, since it allows you to claim your fithed ring of tiles quicker, before the ai agressively forward settles you. You can utilize most of the tiles of the fourthed and fithed ring with vampire castles, so its worth getting them early. Dont forget the 15% faster border growth, the free settler is nice, but its not the only thing you get with the pantheon.
