He was a marvellous tenor. Truly Italianate in style. Great power and gorgeous squillo. Should have focused on opera. The best British tenor ever. By a mile.
WOW.! I forgot he did this film, saw it as a child in the sixties and did not realize he did Nessun Dorma and to my amazement as being a Goons fan and having just listen to a show just before I wrote this, he had me in tears. What a good singer he was and maybe if he had chosen not to be known as Neddy Seagoon and a comic he may have gone to become a very famous opera singer, he certainly was good enough. One of the few things I have to admit about this horrible IT Internet world we live which I helped bring in as an IT Teacher/Trainer is that I am able to come across such gems as this, that I had totally forgotten about. PURE MAGIC from the past.
The best singer of Nessun Dorma that I've ever heard.!! This treasured man, proof here of his overlooked genius. Shame this clip wastes his universal appeal in a bit of cheap comedy.
While it's possible it may be due to a playback speed issue during the digitization of this clip, it's worth pointing out that this is a half-step higher than the original key for Nessun Dorma.
He was very good (and brave) to accept that the climax of the aria should be ruined by the drama of the boy and the scenery falling ... just 5 seconds later and we'd have had both the last notes and the drama ... Bad choice from a director not giving his audience the wow moment!!
The comment that was attributed to me about how poor Harry Secombe sings was not posted by myself and I do not understand why it was here. I have no interest in either this clip or in being rude about any-one. I have had it remove. I would expect that I was hacked.
Wonderful rendition, tone is incredibly dven throughout his range. His Italian could be a little more expressive. Timbre at the top of the range is especially full and a wonderful ringing tone. Phrasing is spot on and wonderful long phrases. His ability to sustain certain phrases is wonderful. [Professional opera singer with 30 years; ENO, Prague, Vienna, Lucca and Canadian Opera, regular lecturer at the Royal Scottish Conservatoire]. Several colleagues have listened to this and commented that his sustaining ability and long phrases are rare. He's in no hurry to get to his next breath, natural, confident.
God man..just what we needed..another vile opera snob demeaning a wonderfull singer...I cannot tell you it sickens me every time I hear another haughty opera buff pontificate..clutching his libretto with his fat little hands and sneering at anything even remotely off his own taste....get a life
He brought down the house. This is an extremely acceptable heroic tenor. I have heard less talented tenors have big careers in major opera houses. To be able to sing the operatic repertoire now and again is one thing. To make a full time career as an opera singer, singing full performances, live, 4 times a week, and not just the arias, but the whole role, acting it, as well… that’s a different story. Sir Harry had a great, well-placed, even, powerful tenor with a brilliant timbre. And he was a fabulously talented comedian, and he was an inspiring singer of songs of faith. He brought joy and laughter and music to everyone. And that’s pretty dang impressive.
@everyday tenor Check out his recordings, there were plenty of them so they must still be around. Back when I was young he was known as much for his magnificent voice as for his comedy acting.
We don't hear that kind of music anymore and that kind of voice and personality. Just beautful
What a talent. And by all accounts I have ever heard, one of the nicest human beings ever put on God's Green Earth.
Harry Secombe what a voice! Legend 😮 had to find him as he popped into my mind singing in Oliver!! Loved the man ❤❤❤
I think this is the only version of Nessun Dorma I've ever heard that reduced me to tears
The all round talented genius. Superb!!!!

That was really his voice...he was a magnificent tenor. Thank you so much for posting this.
One of the greatest singers ever, magnificent!
Excellent - and a very young 'Neddy Seagoon' there,.. my favourite 1950s radio listening.
What a singer+lovely man!😉🥇👼🎤💯🙏👑
what a glorious voice...and he is a great comedian too.
Wonderful 😚
As good as it gets ,a forgotten great in the world of opera.
A proud Swansea boy much missed

@wakeupuk3860 what a lovely comment/post. Thank you.
Great as he did, superb voice!
He was Wales' answer to John McCormack! Thank you for uploading this treasure. From Italy with gratitude, Tim
Great entertainer, one of the best!
If i ruled the world was his best song ,, The right range for him.
I now have the full movie which I first saw when I was a very small boy !

Overlooked in what way? His fine operatic tenor voice was a massive part of his career.
Sir Harry Seacombe wasn't stuck up , he knew he could sing beautifully and he wasn't above a bit of comedy
True comedy, is never cheap
Brilliant
I used to wash his car as a kid and was always so nice.
Welsh legend ❤
Aunt Madhu really Sir Harry Secombe singing voice
Perfect.
My favourite version by a country milr
The best

Oh, really? Have you ever actually considered that no-one actually gives a fuck about that? Just asking, like.
MsG
And he still sang the top notes with ease.
Now if Peter Sellers could just appear as Gryptype and say, "You silly twisted boy you"
Fantastic voice 👌 and there is only one other that can sing it like that 3:20
Long before it became a football anthem.
Yep, by the late great Luciano Pavarotti.
( 1935 - 2007 )
One of the Goons equally at home in Comedy as well as Opera,,, ( Well, he was Welsh RIP Neddie Seagoon)
ecoon)
❤❤❤
❤️ Thank 🙏 You ❤️
He always sounded like Caruso to me .
Sir Harry secombe ❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️

they didnt miss the last note. they got it all then the scenery fell
@@singerman2008 ish.
I have it on vinyl and it is magnificent!
What movie was this performed in??
Davy (1958)
Oh as god is my judge, eat yer heart out Pavorotti, Caruso and others, our humble Goon Harry Secolme wears you all down.
Plie Cumry
Secombe was fine, but Pavarotti's arias flowed almost effortlessly. Most tenors seem to work so hard producing the high notes.
And how great is the ony word what a voice RIP Sir Harry
I have been looking for this movie for decades, please advise me where you got this clip from . Many thanks
+itsonlycapnkirk I got it from a longer clip on You Tube which I trimmed down, but I can't find that original clip now sorry
You can still stream this film Davy (1958) from Amazon prime.
Mr bumble
Look min. Neddie can sing too.
He's fallen in the water

Awful this guy
How dare you, your failure to recognise a brilliant tenor with an established career as a great singer
Ignorance is bliss, you must be in Heaven.

@Carl T. You need to wash your ears out.
@@snowysnowyriver And what a truly magnificient voice your man Harry Secombe had! I reckon he could easily hold his own against Pavarotti et al.
