I happen to have just bought a 5 pack of Portra 400 to run through an RZ67 that I'm borrowing (with the intent of purchasing hopefully!) first time using both so hopefully an enjoyable experience!

I'm surprised that you described lomo as warmer than porta. I'd argue that porta is one of the warmest film stocks there are, with tones so far into the yellow that the sky is cyan more than blue. I think it's great for Caucasian skin tone for this reason. Especially for those with a more flushed or red complexion.
Could you maybe when showing the photo list the shutter speed and aperture? Just so we get a complete understanding of the settings you used to capture that exact photo. Thank youuu
Unless they list the settings for each shot, that'd be quite difficult to remember especially when they were shooting multiple rolls.
That's what I missed from digital which I took for granted. 😀

That's because all of Lomography's 120 color negative films are cut from master rolls of Kodak's consumer films

I just shot my first colour film (portra 400, 35mm) and I'm really happy with the creamy look I got out of the film, also happened to shoot it at a classic american car show so it looks so rad (made a short video with pics too) and on saturday I'm shooting my second (portra 400, 120) yaay :)

Another great video. It would be great if in future videos you could do a recap of the photos shot in throughout the episode at the end -- so we get to see them all together again in mind with the things you were talking about them with.

I noticed in two of the Lomo shots you caught an airplane whizzing through... That's really cool! I'm shooting some Lomo Lady Grey right now... I found out that it may be re-branded Fomapan 400. I also shot the xPro 200 Slide film and wanted to process E-6 but I think the lab ended up cross-ing it. I liked it. It's good to throw rolls like that in the mix... Thanks again you guys!

Amazing results from Lomo 400, i think it is basically because the absolutely razor sharp Mamiya lens and the size of the negative, still, i'll give it a go with the RB67.

I love the pictures in the basketball court! I shot my first batch of pictures with Lomography (fisheye camera + film) and I didn't really like how they turned out. I posted them in the Facebook group I think, but only two of them came out nice. They are, like you said, more 'warm' toned and idk if I love that yet.. Great video! :)

Could you make a video on how you go about measuring light to get a good exposure? Specially scenes with both alot of highlight and shadow. You seem to get very balanced and nice exposures :) Keep up the great work, very inpiring!

Damn guys! You're doing a great job and you got Matt Day to comment! Love the blind comparison - I guess you'd be biased if you knew what you were shooting. I somehow find myself looking out for Ektar situations if I've got a roll in the camera, for instance. Was surprised at the Lomography film. I'd seriously underestimated it. Grabbing some rolls!
What's your workflow guys? Do you scan yourself or get the lab to do it. Insanely sharp images, made me love Portra even more!

Did you experience light leaks on the film borders / film rebate with LOMO CN films?
I always get this. I load taking care to put enough tension, my cameras had CLA and other films didnt show this problem, only LOMO CN films.
I dont know what do to... The leaks rarely get into the image, but they still bother me a lot!!
I agree with you that Lomo film is surprisingly warm and nice.

Hi have recently been recommended your youtube. Thought I would say something about the film comparison. Being a little older than you I found the Lomography film t be like the old Kodak Color Gold that was around in the 80's a good performer in most lighting conditions, the Porta I like as I prefer the paler colours that you get with it. Keep up the good work and videos.

I actually started shooting more Lomo 400 and 800 lately as I can't be spending a lot of money on Portra right now. I agree that Lomo is a bit warmer compared to Portra, but for the most part it works with what I typically shoot (portraits).
But nah sweet ep! Was surprised at how well the lomo film compared to the Portra 400, especially given the price diff

Comparing the focusing of the mamiya 7 versus a leica m rangefinder, which will focus faster and easier? - regardless of camera size.
Given they are both manual focus the question of which one will focus faster will be down to you purely. It's very much personal preference and with practice you'll no doubt be able to get focus equally as quick with both types

Using Portra 400 for 4 or 5 years, also had 2 rolls of Lomo 400, need to say that it is good for warm light, like Golden Hour period of the day and some of "own archives", but for real production (read exhibitions, zines, photo books) there is nothing better than Portra or Velvia ( maybe Agfa Precisa sometimes )

Yeah, I don't think i'd shoot it for client based work, but on occasion i'd be more than happy to shoot it
which color effect luts are you using for this video is such a great color. Also if you are using a color effect for this video, does that mean pictures shown in this video do not truly represent the film's original color?
The pictures haven't been graded! The adjustment layer for the video is beneath the photos!
The Lomography looks like it'd be a fun film with a higher color temperature (either through filters or artificial lighting).
I would take lots of photos from that basketball court as well

Good Video, As for the Lomography Color400 that I think that it is really Kodak 400 Ultra film repackage as Lomo400 as the scenes that you photograph as the images are Medium contrast, and the colors are just right - Natural, as I use to use ALOT of 400 Ultra film, and was really upset when Kodak kill it in pushing the 400 Portra films which I found them Very FLAT.

I got a camera strap just like that off eBay for $6. Not trying to call you out for being cheap, because the strap is great for the money, has a nice look, just curious if that's a name brand of some sort and mine is a lookalike.
It seems that much of the perception of Lomography film being super grainy and oversaturated comes from the way people are shooting and processing it - they're going for that lo-fi look on purpose. But it's nice to see that you can manage to get quality results when you shoot it through a pro-grade camera such as the Mamiya 6. I've recently seen some impressive results from Lomo 800 shot by a friend. The tones reminded me of Ektar. I might give some Lomo film a go as I look for a replacement for my go-to budget film, Superia X-Tra.

Have you ever shot Portra 400 at something other than box speed? I've seen some photos from a friend which he has shot rating the film at 800 or 1600 and they come out great (lower contrast, milkier shadows and more grain overall). How about pre-flashing the film? This is something I'd love to see in a future video!
If you rate Portra 400 at 800 or 1600 and develop as normal, that would be an 1 or 2 stop underexposure, respectively. If you were to develop accordingly, you'd be pushing the film and increasing the contrast. Im assuming you mean shooting Porta 400 at 200/100.
Agreed with Brendan, think you've got it it the opposite way round! I do normally shoot portra at 200 or 100, but considering this was the first time i've shot lomo i thought it might be worth comparing at box speed

Ebay is probably your best bet, they're really rare recently. You could try Aperture or Ffordes though
Perhaps as mentioned that you've shot the place a tad too many times, the photos were subpar compared to some of those in previous vids. Not much action going on too. Looking forward to the next instalment.

At first I felt like the lomography roll looked like it was trying to look like it had an instagram filter but then it seemed as if the colours suddenly muted and it looked a lot better? Not really sure how to explain what I mean. Lovely video as always, lads.

I think that we continue shoot film much years to come, besides good picture quality it gives you something that digital cannot replace
I think it has reached a point to keep it safe - like vinyl in music, film will stay in photography for a long time.
