I supplement the snare with a sample of the same snare & process the sample a bit different from the actual live source. Same usually with the kick. The live sources are always super loud in the mix, samples eased in just for reinforcement. Just compression & EQ, lots of room. He hits so solid so that's ultimately why it sounds great.
