I was searching for this song but didn’t remember the name and used Cleopatra haha 😂 I see why I remembered it this way...I was just a kid back then. Nice to see it again, it was forbidden
One of my very favorite remixes of the song and I didn't know that there was a video let alone the live performance that's fabulous thank you very very much
velut luna statu variabilis, semper crescis aut decrescis; vita detestabilis nunc obdurat et tunc curat ludo mentis aciem, egestatem, potestatem dissolvit ut glaciem. O Fortuna ! O Fortuna ! velut luna statu variabilis.
It was banned that time in the Netherlands because the makers of the song ("Fortuna feat. Satenig") made use of "Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff, without paying for the right to do so. Copyright infringement. The heirs of Carl Orff were very vigilant in defening their rights, but I don't think many people brought the CD back to the stores. And in the end the song and the video found their way to the internet. The other version of this song from the same period, O Fortuna by Apotheosis, can also be found on TH-cam and Spotify.
@@send2wj Correct. This song, alongside "O Fortuna" by Apotheosis (another dance track based on Orff's work) was banned on the 24th of February 1992 by a Dutch court. Carl Orff's heirs argued that, while the samples used on both tracks were paid for by both record companies, they never agreed for them to be used in a dance track and never would have allowed it if the producers had "honestly" told them what the samples were going to be used for (the word "honestly" is theirs; not mine). It was big news because both tracks were up high in the Top 40 at the time: this track on position 2 and Apotheosis' track on no. 5. The Apotheosis track was also featured on Turn up the Bass 18, which was also pulled from retail on 24 February 1992 because of it. it was later reissued without the Apotheosis track. You can tell the releases apart by their cover: the one *with* the Apotheosis track has a purple/pinkish accent to the front cover's image, while the re-issue lacking that track has a red accent instead (but still features the name "Apotheosis" on the list of featured acts on the front even though the track is missing). Knowing that the record stores would take a day or so to clear out the stock, I went out to the record store the day the news of the ban came in and bought Turn up the Bass 18, a few copies of the CD single and 7" of both track (both 12" releases were already gone or sold out).
2020 I'll still never forget this song. Love it!

Great that this has survived until this day, although this song was banned in Holland back then.
send2wj Could you tell me why it has been banned ? Thank you.
