Hydro dipping a guitar body with Magic Marble Paint

  • My first attempt at hydro dipping a guitar body. This started off as a first year production Eric Clapton guitar that a previous owner stripped the original finish off and tried to make a "crash" paint job but gave up. Thanks to my wife and kids for the help. It was a fun project and went suprisingly well for our first attempt. The guitar will be sprayed with a clear coat in the next few days and reassembled. Like any other paint project, the more time you spend in prep, the better the results. I scuffed the previous finish and applied a few coats of the Rustoleum 2K and I let that dry 48 hours before we attempted the hydro dipping. Hopefully this might help a few people who want to try it. It was a lot of fun and I would definitely do it again.

      I can't say my family is interested in my guitars, they were more interested in the hydro dipping process.

    A couple questions… How long do you need to keep your guitar under the water? when I’ve taken objects out of the water little water bubbles remain. How do you get rid of those? Hairdryer ..fan? Any other technique? Just shaking didn’t seem to do it. Relying on sanding afterwards doesn’t really work since it sands off the color.

      As soon as it's fully submerged and the paint on top is moved out of the way its removed. I would say from start to finish under a minute. I way the body around so extreme air drying you might say. Pretend you're directing traffic if that makes sense.

    Does this not affect the tone of the guitar from warping or swelling?

    • @samdeo5332
      @samdeo5332  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not from what I've noticed. It's not in the water that long, and it's already painted with a base coat, so it's not bare wood.

    Im just wondering, did you put anything into the water as a medium? also how warm was the water?

    • @samdeo5332
      @samdeo5332  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I use magic Marble paint which doesn't require a medium in the water. I had the temperature between 65 and 70F.

      Between 65 and 70F. Are you using Magic Marble or another brand?

    • @BoostedBlazer
      @BoostedBlazer หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @samdeo5332 another brand since magic marble is basically out of stock of all paints, i using the marabu easy marbel which is similar but i dont think is as good

    • @samdeo5332
      @samdeo5332  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @BoostedBlazer I tried a swirling paint from a local craft store and it gave me a lot of issues. There are a few places that may have magic marble in stocks, try beach girl glitter, they have custom mixed colors as well.
