LOVE the packaging. Skeletor and the upcoming Mer-Man look better. I just think He-Man should be a home run.
Oh my God, you're such a bad influence on me! You nailed this video review with the right balance of how you feel about this release and how others have reacted to it. A nice fair & balanced review. I wish Sideshow or Hot Toys handled this instead of Mondo, but as it is, there is more than enough good stuff going for this figure to make me want one now. I don't collect 1:6 scale, but MOTU & Transformers are my 2 favorite properties, so, yeah...this guy is cool. My only nitpick are both his heads look a bit off. But not a deal-breaker. Very cool.
I will 3D Print a Filmation style head and repaint his clothing to give him the cartoon look, i bought three of these and three of the Skeletor, i will do the same for one of the Skeletor figures, and i was thinking of 3D Printing a 1/6 Skeletor Throne.
I was thinking about a full body swap on mine. A 1/6th scale TBLeague (Phicen) M34 body would be perfect! Better articulation and seamless joints. But then I saw that the boots and trousers are sculpted parts of the figure, so that needs some extensive custom work!
Great Review about great Masters Stuff from Mondo;) These Figures definitely worth the money!
Those MOND MOTU figures are sweet. I don’t have the room for 12” figures but I wish I did.
everyone keeps giving us their twist on ha man, but the frazetta-inspired goodness of alcala has never been bettered. we need more alcala he mans!
Thanks for the review. I'm glad this turned out well. Seems like they learned a lot from their TMNT stuff
I m here because Pixel Dan .
Great review as always. Looking forward to getting this guy.
Great review! Im still waiting for mine. As a 1/6th scale collector, these Mondo figures doesn't really fit with the 1/6th standard to me. There is 12 inch and there is 1/6th. It sounds like the same, but I feel like they're seperated by esthetics, materials and engineering. Its not a bad looking figure by any meens, but its not quite "1/6th scale" either. I think you used the correct term (large action figure) to be honest.
With all this said! I had plans on stripping down this figure and replacing the body with a seamless TBLeague (Phicen) M34 body. It has a Terminator Arnie sculpt to it, and I think that it would have suited He-Man very well. Not to mention getting the full range of articulation. But looking at how this Mondo body is designed now, I think that a lot of heavy customation is needed LOL!
The biggest issues I have with the Mondo MOTU figures is their articulation and the head sculpts. The "vintage" one looks too bloated and the other one sort of looks like the re-boot version, but not quite there either. But the design esthetics looks good on both He-Man and the upcoming Skeletor.
As for the price point. Are these Mondo figures worth 160 USD? A 1/6th The Walking Dead figure by ThreeZero costs the same. The difference is a much better quality in the head sculpts as far as the sculpt and paint goes. They've got fabric outfits, weathering and a more "normal" standard 1/6th body. With all that in mind, I think that these Mondo figures are way overpriced. Im still getting both He-Man and Skeletor though, because its He-Man and MOTU after all, and I like the scale. Will I be getting other figures like this from Mondo? Probably not at this pricetag. Unless its other iconic MOTU figures like Man-At-Arms or something LOL! Too bad that the range of articulation in the elbows is so poor. It almost renders the posabillity in the legs useless for dynamic poses. Its a shame because this is a otherwise awesome looking figure!
It doesn't wow me, but it's a nice-looking figure. The weapons look really cool, especially the Power Sword and Battle Axe. Isn't the small gun the one he uses in the movie?
The more I look at the face the more I see Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Great review!
It looks cool. But a 160 bucks a little to rich for my blood.
It's funny the guy in the video said it's not that expensive lol buts it is very expensive almost $200 bucks that's crazy. .
thank u for figuring out how the loin clothe comes off
I prefer the vintage headsculpt over the modern one.
The right bicep is twisted in the wrong direction. You have to twist it front to back. Also he is 12" but not 1/6; if he was 1/6 he'd be closer to 13 inches not 12. I mean he is He-man right?
Yes! That twisted bicep was bugging me so much in the review! Hahha
I wish they would have given him a holster for the pistol. And maybe a cape.
@ToyBro how did you remove the skirt?
just got mine in today
Late to the party but pretty much agree with everything said in the review. There's a lot of really nice work here, but the poor colour match on the knees is an eyesore, there's some slightly sloppy and gloopy paint in spots (particularly the hair on the mondo head sculpt), but most of all, personally, I just don't like the head sculpt. Everything else is either great or largely inconsequential (I don't much care for the original head or the cartoon character pack-in, but including them certainly isn't anything to complain about) but while I'm fine with different artist's takes, that head sculpt just doesn't say He-Man to me, and for me I just can't get past that fact, unfortunately.
That said Faker, oddly given all the parts re-use, looks far better from what I've seen (must be the colour scheme, which really pops), and Skeletor looks pretty fantastic, while Mer-Man also looks to be quite impressive, and they all feel very much like the characters they are supposed to be to me, so I think I might be going for a villains only display, personally. At least until a better He-Man option comes along (maybe they'll do a Battle Armour He-Man at some point, or some other variant with a different sculpt option).
Thanks for the great reviews.
Head sculpt is Buzz Lightyear with a pageboy haircut.
This looks so great
Hi hope they bring this to 1:12 scale. If they did, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Still unsure if I like it. Don’t like the face. Does look better with the loin cloth removed though.
Would make for a great mythic legions giant
I am a huge MOTU fan as you know, but this isn't moving me yet. I had preordered him and then canceled because I couldn't justify spending the amount on this guy. Man-At-Arms and Mer-Man look amazing but He-Man, Faker, and Skeletor aren't cutting it for me. The vintage heads just don't look good on these bodies. Something is just off. Now having said that, if these don't sell well and the price drops, I will buy it in a heartbeat.
I still say the vintage heads are just a joke, I can't imagine anything else. I still think it looks better than I expected, but it still looks goofy as hell. I'll readily say that He-Man is easily the least exciting figure of what they've shown so far, I think Skeletor looks great as does MAA and specifically Mer-Man, he looks stellar.
Sixth scale is getting too expensive
That depends on the manufactorer though. Hot Toys and certain others have gone off their damn rockers. Pay more to get less! But companies like ThreeZero is still at a affordable price (159,99 USD mostly). What is great about the 1/6th scale figures is the level of details, outfits made from fabrics and the articulation (if not hindered by the outfits design). Thats what seperates a "toy" from a "collectible", in my opinion. The price/quality ratio!
Would I define this He-Man figure as a high quality 1/6th scale collectible? Absolutely not! I'd put it in the very expensive action figure category at best.
What's up with that right bicep LOL
the small gun is from the 87 movie
Yeah I'm not sure how I didn't catch that, as someone who loves that damn movie. I was showing my wife all the 'stuff' after I wrapped up this video and even she knew what it was. By that time it was way too late to correct the video though, lol.
Yeah, 2mins 23secs; m.th-cam.com/video/p_jz3J_ncTM/w-d-xo.html
looks great
Action figures in Action! :th-cam.com/video/taQMQfcCgyo/w-d-xo.html
It looks like the face and the hair were sculpted on opposite sides of the factory by two artists who have never met.
Individually they look alright, but together, they don't make a coherent whole.
I'm a huge MOTU person. But I'm just tired of these monkeys trying to make their own twist on He-Man. The color looks a little off. Or at least give us a 'retro' option accessories. Trust me, these MOTU lines WILL sell a lot more if they look more like retro/vintage style. I'm glad they're making a 12" MOTU action figure. I will still get this line cause the other characters looks retro (etc, Mer-Man).
Got mine the other day , he’s cool but his upper arms are too short and his legs are too long , I removed the pleather skirt, and replaced it with fur , more more satisfied with him now , I will be sculpting a new head for him though, that one just hurts my eyes
BREAKING NEWS: Mondo FAKER is up for preorder right NOW at BBTS! It’s limited!
Weird for it to go up so late, snagged it though, thanks for the heads up.
@@ToyBro Mondo's website has the Exclusive with the damaged robot head just FYI!!!
God it looks horrible I mean damn
I live in South Florida.... The Gay Leather Bars have tons of guys dressed like that..... Sigh....
This is not a 160 dollar figure. It's not really any better than 12 inch versions of Marvel characters from Hasbro. The accessories aren't cloth/leather/metal and the sculpt isn't realistic. This should be a 30-40 dollar figure at the most.
More like a ken doll.
Just get a Ken doll and put the he-man chest harness the skirt and sword then u for your self a he-man doll
Pretty darn ugly...the chest or torso definitely not anatomical correct ...
The previewer has no understanding of figures...at the cost is a throw away
What a derpy face sculpt...
