Our church choir sang this on Sunday October 22nd at The Chapel of St. John the Divine Champaign Illinois. The Episcopal Church on the Campus of The University of Illinois Urbana. It was amazing
I chose this text for our Old Testament class at General Seminary during the pandemic and we were online for classes and I thought this Psalm would be reassuring to our class in March 2020.
Indeed a beautiful cathedral. Pigeons and bats must delight in it as well! This piece (which I will sing in choir in a couple of weeks) has a haunting, ethereal, transcendent and comforting quality that I also hear in some of Maurice Durufle's pieces, particularly his Requiem. Just lovely

I sang in the Boys Choir and later the Adult Choir in St John's Episcopal Church in Bethesda, MD in the late 60's and early 70's, under John Spalding, Choirmaster, who really knew his stuff, but sadly, ended up having to seek other employment, as the pay just wasn't sufficient to support a family. Still love "Classical" Church music to this day. Twice a week after school, he would drive to St. Johns for rehearsal, and on the way he picked up me and several other boys, who would squeeze into his little VW bug. Some highlights: singing at St Dunstans on Christmas Eve. For some reason, maybe the thick snow, they needed a substitute choir and our boys choir was it. I think we sang our regular service at St Johns, and then did a late service at St Dunstans. It was very exciting to visit this unfamiliar church on that very snowy Christmas Eve and get to stay up late singing. Also I remember singing in a performance of Britten's St. Nicholas Cantata. As a 6th grader, during early rehearsals, I initially disliked the piece, because I didn't understand the modern harmonies. I mainly participated because we were offered an extra fifty cents in our pay, LOL. Imagine boy choir members getting paid small amounts every week, how times have changed. But later it became one of my favorite pieces. At any rate, the performance was quite exciting, because soloists and choir members from the National Cathedral sang, including a particularly talented boy who sang the part of Young Nicholas, and also another boys choir was there, too.
