Shower Rod Installation - Tension Shower Rods

  • I like a tension shower rod for easy installation and replacement. I don't like shower rods that have to be cut to size and connected with a bracket and screws. You take a chance of cracking tiles when you drill the holes for the screws.

    I wanted to thank you!
    I took my curtains down to wash them. Then I struggled (along with my 14 year old grandson) to get them back up.
    After an hour or so my smart grandson got his phone and did a TH-cam search which brought us to you! We had that darn rod back up in less than five minutes.
    Thank you so much! I was on the verge of tossing that rod out the door!

    I am 66 and not disabled. But I just renovated my house and put 2 grab bars in each shower. I don't want a serious injury if I fall in the shower! The grab bars are attached to the wood framing in the walls under the fiberglass shower. I also put lever style door handles on every door as these are easier to use if you develop arthritis. Both the grab bars and lever style handles are for aging in place. My house is one story so I should be good for many years!

  • @punkboy02

    This really helped! My shower rod just fell out of no where, and when trying to reinstall it, it kept on falling down. I didn't know the knob at the end could tighten aside from the 2 rods. After doing what you did in your video, my rod is back up, and even with some pulling, it stays firm in place! Thank you for this video!!

    If you have any balance or stability issues - a mounted rod is much better. If you have to grab it to steady yourself it will stay firm and act like a support. A tension mount will give and cause an even worse fall due to the sudden release of the rod from the walls.

    • @TheGlorydawn
      @TheGlorydawn 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good point! My tension rod annoys me, it is always slipping. My grandparents are moving in with me, and could very well slip. I am going to change mine to a mounted rod.

    • @maurashannon4797
      @maurashannon4797 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you have balance and mobility issues you should install grab bars firmly attached to the studs. I have two in each shower. A long bar on the long wall about three feet high and a short grab bar to hold as you step into the tub. A shower curtain rod is not designed to hold the weight of a falling person and may be too high to grab if you are slipping in the shower.

    • @gbabe5432

    For those with a tension rod that won't stay up, you can kill two birds with one stone by using those wall hooks that have a transparent base with adhesive on the back that won't mess up your tile if you ever want to remove the hooks. I use these myself on tile in the bathroom to hold up the curtain rod from under the ends of the rod. I wouldn't recommend it for walls, though, textured or otherwise since the adhesive might damage them. Just search Amazon or Google for "adhesive transparent hooks for towels". Attach one transparent-base hook to the tile at each end of the shower, just below where you want the end of the rod to touch the tiled wall. Then put up and tighten/expand your rod so the ends are just above the transparent base of the hook (not the hook itself). The transparent base of the hook will then serve to catch the rod if it wants to slip. And you can periodically re-tighten the rod every few months or whenever if you want to make sure it doesn't get too loose. This idea keeps the curtain rod up AND gives you handy, strong hooks to hang towels and things. I even use a shower curtain (plus liner) with 6 pockets used for loofah, soap, headrest, etc, and it holds up just fine.

Today my shower rod fell down and I noticed that the previous tenant had improvised with a complicated setup made of gorilla tape in order to make it hold in the first place, I was super confused. Turns out it is a tension rod, and new tape isn't needed! ... for now, at least. Maybe it'll fall down again and if it does, I'll probably just replace it with another tension rod.

    I will not buy another twist and lock type rod. They do not stay up. I tried to hang laundry on one to dry. It falls down. The tension rod is the way to go. It is tight and stays up.
