Thanks so much for posting this. Just before you show the assembled motor, from around 8 minutes, you're holding the rotor with the little vanes on the top. Can those vanes be spinning or do they have to be fixed to the rotor? Thanks in advance!

Those vans should be glued to the rotor and spin when it does

I came to verify this exact issue. My fan/vane piece was stuck onto the core, but so was everything else since it came from a nasty environment. This thing had tons of grime and cigarette resin/smoke embedded into every material, and even after cleaning, it still smells of strong smoker's lung. Anyway, the vane wasn't glued on very well, so I cleaned it off and prepped both surfaces for some epoxy. I couldn't tell whether the old glue was cigarette resin or glue, so it's good to confirm that. ;)

Btw I am pretty sure the vanes are actually a heatsink

Sure would have liked to have seen the assembly putting the rotor back into the stater with its accompanying washers and spacers and spring. Kind of glossed over that... Where does the spring go? Which side?

The spring/washer/spacer/etc arrangement is different for the upper, lower, and sideways slow motors, how you assemble it depends on the intended application. The spring rate is also different for upper/lower, and they can be arranged in different order on different motors. If you buy a rebuild kit it will come with a diagram for one way to assemble (tip: reuse your old spring if it is still good). The key with assembly is to make sure the spring helps the rotor into the magnetic field when it has to work against gravity. Also ensure that the spring is pressing on steel washers, and that you have enough spacers, nylatron washers, etc, to get the motor to jump up well when energeize and not smash against the frame when it is deenergized.
