If you have someone to help lift the speaker on a bench with its top on the bottom, you can do everything from nearly a standing position without having to bend over or stand on your head! I threaded the belt on the large wheel under the speaker and held it in the grooves with two pieces of duct tape until i got it tight on the small motor wheel!

I have my uncles old 125 and it was taking a fortnight to get up to speed, and its tension was maxed out. When I did finally change the belt and properly set tension, it was slightly better but still seamed really slow. At this point i have been thinking about modding the motor or replacing it with something that has more power. And maybe even modifying the drum to lighten it a little more. Not really sure though.

I think that you are right about your motor needing an adjustment. There are many parts on the motor that could be causing your issue. For example the rubber rings on my Leslie 147 motor were worn out causing speed problems. I will link two websites where you can find motors/parts. If you give Tonewheel General a call they are very helpful and may be able to help you trouble shoot.

@@skatewaystudio8935 Thank you so much! I will look them up. Spin up time is good 12 seconds after I changed the belt on mine. The rubber rings and such on mine seemed ok, but i wouldn't really know for sure. I don't know that much about how it is normally supposed to be.

Their is a much easier way to do this by turning the speaker over with its top on the floor. You can thread the belt without removing the speaker!!

Great repair video by the way, but I have a short story about the 125.
When I was in 9th grade I was in a band in a rock show at high school and my dad had just purchased a new Hammond T-212 which was around $ 2100. In 1969 !!!
Anyway he called the guys at the Hammond store and asked to rent a Leslie for about 2 weeks ... My Hammond was at the school and they show up with the 125 ....!
God .... How disappointing it was ....
I'm trying to play Santana and I've got no treble horns to do it any kind of justice.... !
It was THE worst booming, stuffy sounding Leslie ever created ....
It made me wonder why ....???
I soon recovered and one year later washed dishes 7 days a week for an 8 hr. Day for an entire summer .... and Finally had the $471 . For my own sweet 147 which gave me the glorious Leslie sound I always wanted ...!😁

Thanks for sharing! That is a great story. I actually was impressed with the sound of the 125 all things considered. I went into it with no expectations. The 147/122 obviously sound better but I have gotten some great recordings with the 125.

@skatewaystudio8935 Sorry if I was harsh on th 125 .... but it's the double driver setup, with both rotating and different speeds, ramp up, and slow down that's the heart of the Leslie sound ....
The treble sounds in the 125 were simply smothered. I'm assuming they used a full range 15 woofer in the bottom. And yes it will provide some of the Leslie sound, but not much more than the foam units like the one inside my T-212..... maybe more bottom.
While I'm on it I'm also ot a fan of Don Leslie's original Rotosonic design ...
When used say inside of a Hammond Concord it takes forever to ramp up to speed and has more of a warbly effect on the sound, like a Clone box with the width set wide open...
Amazing things they are ...! 😁
