    I crashed mine on maiden. Bizarre incident. When I plugged my battery in and moved it back in the fuse I guess the thick cable from the battery lead partially unplugged the throttle servo from the rx and and after takeoff it come completely unplugged and I lost motor power and landed on top of a building. It’s back together just waiting for decent weather hopefully this Saturday to re-maiden. From now on I will make sure the battery lead is facing to the nose instead of aft.

    I have the UMX 30mm twin EDF V2 A10 and now have this one as well but I haven't even taken it out of the box. Why? I'm a total beginner to RC Planes but I have flown my trainers (Mini AeroScout, Sport Cub S2 and AeroScout). I have flown the 30mm A10 a few times and taken back by the power and control/command you have even when flying in less than ideal, moderate winds conditions. I think I'll keep the 64mm A10 in the box for now and keep flying with the trainers and 30mm A10 to get more flight time under me. Love the hobby and great channel Brian and Camera Crew!! You guys inspired me to try RC planes (I am a long time RC car enthusiast and took a long hiatus from the hobby but now I'm back!!)

      Nice! Glad to hear you're back. Flying gets a lot easier with more time at the sticks, but there's always the "unknown" which keeps you on your toes as a pilot, no matter what you're piloting ;)

      @@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks for the reply Brian! You and the "camera crew" are regulars on my main tv at home, now my wife and kids are used to watching you pilot all kinds of RC planes! lol! I just started flying this past April and jumped in feet first. Invested in a NX8. I have jumped from the mini AeroScout, to Sport Cub S2 (love it) and the AeroScout (man I love that trainer! so fun to fly, handles the wind and can take off and land on grass nicely) and I've flown my UMX BNF A10 30mm Warthog and ahem...bought the twin 64mm EDF but way to nervous to fly that one yet! Haven't even opened the box I may also get the programming tool and follow your vid to program reverse thrust when I get to that point. Having a ton of fun learning to fly, Got to learn the "slip" you showed to scrub off speed (was that throttle off rudder right and ailerons left?) to slow down the aircraft in the final before landing? This is my biggest issue right now when landing my UMX A10 30MM. Can I alpha the A10 30MM??? to scrub off more speed for landing? Thanks man!

      They are both good choices, but I think this plane has better habits ;) The Sirius can really BITE YOU if you let the washout from the wing get over the tail - so be careful ;) This A-10 is easier to fly. Also the electronics are a bit better sized in the A-10, thus it's actually less of a battery destroyer ;)

    Brian, I love the videos, great camera work. All of the content is very informative. I have to critique the flying. As an intermediate RC flyer, please emphasize how fast you're flying, distance and visual references. Beginner and intermediates will get in trouble fast. You are expert flyer with a number of years under your belt, but it's kind of frustrating, wanting to get the A-10 or some other jet, watching you fly so flawless, it kind of dissuades mid-pack flyers to buy jets. I'm sure I'll get all the "shut up and color" replies. Just thinking out loud.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It may not always seem like it, but we do always invite constructive criticism, and you're is definitely constructive. That being said, I'm not 100% sure what you want me to do. Can you help me better understand your concern? It sounds like you think my flying style might DISSUADE some from purchase? I try really hard not to over-state how easy or hard planes fly, since it's HARD for me to remember that I'm getting to be a better pilot with some experience, as you mentioned, so I try to remind people where I am, compared to where I was 5 years ago, for example. I don't qualify myself as an "expert" pilot, btw ;) I HAVE always flown in tight spots, and for that reason, I might have some different skills, but I also struggle with other skills that most pilots have long since mastered.
      Please let me know, so we can try to do better for you in this area.
      Also, we appreciate you helping us to improve!

      It will be amazing!!!!!!! I can't wait to see flights right where the power lines HAD been too!!! But first I need to wait for a IUB (Iowa Utilities Board) "C" File to be conducted on this whole ordeal. Even if I get my way, I'll still need to dig up $15,000, but if they get their way, it'll be $24,300 (or so)...not looking forward to that much cash out of my bank accounts...mostly since there isn't that kinda cash in there...hummmmmmmmmmmmmmm - what to do???
      If I run into the power lines and die a horrible death, I'll really wish I said, YES....but if I get good at PPG, I won't need it...then I'll still have a better view, and clearance for RC flights and for Ultralight Aircraft sorties when we get the runway in out back...

(It’s literally “buy all the spare parts” and you’ll have the whole airplane)

      The f15 64mm was my first real edf after flying the umx edfs alot. I totalled it and got another ive had better luck with. I find the f15 easy to fly in safe mode but not all that easy without safe. To me the a10s are much more stable in the air but alot faster and more expensive. Id say go with the f15 or viper.

    Just out of curiosity, didn’t you guys build that house? I’m wondering why you didn’t build yourself a longer runway.

      Because we didn't win the lottery...we have to pay for all of this. Also the concrete is fiber reinforced, 6" thick, with 18" oc rebar...IE you can drive a semi up the driveway (as I do). This is a 300+ foot driveway, with a 47'X50' approach...get a quote and see what I'm talking about. The flatwork alone on this project would have paid for our first house.

    Brian, I was looking at the AS3X and Safe settings on this bird. The Safe angle limts are all set at 45 degrees. Under Forward Programming you only have Gyro listed, and I don't see a way to increase these limits in the transmitter like on a AR631 or AR637T. Any ideas around how to do this with the AR637TA?

    What kind of range are you flying? I have an open area like what you have. I am somewhat afraid of a fly away. I did have a loss of control with the 30mm A10 at a range of 500ft. Some manuals have range listed and some do not. It is hard to judge distance on your video even thou your camera crew is right on. I would like to get into this one soon. I have a long flat dirt road, should be good on that. Thank you..

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're in any doubt, do a RANGE TEST. This is a process where you control the plane (on the ground) at 1/10 power, so you can pace off and calculate your range.

    Hey Brian, I'm a new RC pilot and I was wondering if you had to let the plane "rest" before switching batteries. Thanks for you content. As you've mentioned in previous videos, I'm one of those that based on lot of my purchases on your reviews and opinions.

      Not really …. Unless it is a hot day like above 85°F then I would for sure let your Esc’s / and motors cool down for 5 or 10 minutes ….I usually do this in the summer time and it works out OK…..definitely do not fly back to back in a high-performance jet like this in summer time temps…. Now in the winter time I can definitely fly back to back and do not have to let the plane rest

      Sorry for being so slow to reply Dan...we've been struggling to get caught up with so much production going on...
      ...As for cool down...I'd say, like Mike mentioned, if it's a real hot day, more concerned about the battery than the plane. The ESC's cool best when there's air moving across their heat sinks, but to be honest, slow flight will cool them more than sitting in the sun, in my opinion, but we're in central Iowa, and not at some super high altitude or in the desert.

    Quick question Brian what causes bounce when landing? Is it because of too much speed? or is it related to your descent with throttle /elev not being right (Coming down to fast)???
    Im sometimes getting a little bounce after actually touching down….
    And I’ll tell you what Brian I have the V1 And the front landing gear pin would have for sure broke on me if i did what u did at 4:26😄….. anyway i broke that front lg pin twice this is because My landings were a little speedy and bouncy… now since getting the new updated pins everything has been good even with one less than stellar landing. (About 11 flights since new pin)

  • @gtm624

    I’m confused by what your calling pilot fatigue. Can you explain? I’ve heard you talk about it in the past. I thought it was reverse thrust but obviously not. Lol.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pilot Fatigue is where I have a switch that will put FULL REVERSE THRUST at a flip of a single switch, then I can keep flying (or guiding the plane to a standstill). Reverse Thrust is CONTROLLABLE with the THROTTLE STICK, so when you're landing, it's very unnatural to put the throttle stick FORWARD, so I came up with a method to minimize "pilot fatigue" - which is NOT a made up thing. Pilot Fatigue is a situation at times of high stress or when pilots are over worked, and they make mistakes that can lead to damaging or deadly mistakes.
