I got Blitz for a friend a while ago and he loves it. Seems highly recommended. The real pain is trying to get a hold of this game; it is a gauntlet in itself.
Almost like you hit GWs business model on the head. Lots of different models that only mildly change the game play. As the third version of this game, they keep adding more teams as their bigger version blood bowl adds teams.
this is one reason (of many) in why Guildball is so much better than this game, all of those GB teams played vastly different, so much tactical and strategic depth to explore. GW miniature games are only really good as a gateway to the hobby, they are just too shallow and lack replay ability that more hardcore gamers desire.. GW has the money to hire top tier game designers, they really should be doing that, but their stuff sells like crazy in spite of its lacklustre mechanics/rules, so I guess they don't feel the need to.
@@anab0lic This game is supposed to be very light and not to involved. I think they specifically went through the rules for the teams to make them share more special rules. Blood bowl has more variation between the teams and much more involved rules but the last edition of the rules was poorly done in my opinion.
I just bought a bunch of smooth poker chips in 5 different colors AND various colored erasable markers. My plan is to be able to quickly and easily mimic any team and have each player be easily identifiable on the pitch. GW putting the other factions in the box sans minis was a solid. I will also say that after listening to the Crush podcast (who consulted on the design of BB ultimate), I think the players look similar to those less familiar with the game but according to the Crush podcast, a 1+ or 1- difference in a stat is huge. So maybe the teams aren't as similar as they appear.
Aaand if they would stop putting the human team in every single Blitz Bowl Box I would actually consider getting another one. But honestly, what do I need 2 oder even 3 identical human teams for? No, thanks. Stupid decision.
At least 2 Human Teams are kinda useful to intruduce the game to new players so they can completely focus on learning and applying the rules and do not have to think what your team is able to do or which minis are which player becauee it is completely mirrored.
Guildball killed blood bowl for me, but then steamforged games killed Guildball. :( Hopefully one day it is brought back from the dead, such a genius design, one of the best skirmish games to date.
Blitz Ball is an awesome game if you don't have a lot of time or wargaming buddies around. I really love it while I can't stand Blood Bowl. Guild Ball is indeed a great game too. Always happy to play a match of this game. But requires a lot of more time and I can't ask all my friends for that because the rules are not be learned in a few minutes 🙂
Yeah this is for people with teams who want a more modern and better version of blood bowl, this game is vastly superior to its bigger brother in almost every way, I really cant see non GW customers getting the most out of this game, this is why I get annoyed because its only sold in specific countries, and us in the UK and elsewhere have to jump through hoops to get the best experience
@@kaibe5241 not licencing, they are meant to just be throw away entry games, but the designer after having issues making big brother decided to really put all his effort into modernising blood bowl as if he had free reign and created something magical
@@BoardGameCoYeah, it's a lot more dynamic, allows higher scores, more action on the pitch and it is a lot easier to teach so it gets more table time. I love it. 😊
I do not like the teams they used in this set. The humans have appeared in both the previous editions of blitz bowl and the blood bowl 2016 game. The skaven were released as a blood bowl team in like 2016/2017, and as a blitz bowl team expansion box in the first edition of blitz bowl, they also appeared as half underworld creepers blood bowl team in maybe 2018/2019 and then again were released as half of a team in the Dungeonbowl 2021 box. GW has so many great blood bowl minis but for these games they want the push fit/easy to assemble style of models which really limits them to like 4 choices out of like 20.
I never did like Bloodbowl due to the whole "I'll take a step for my first action, fall over and lose my turn." Does Blitz Bowl have the same thing? A far better sports game for me was Dreadball from Mantic games. Much faster, much more fun, and no BS ways to lose your turn.
Blitz bowl doesn't have any turnover lose your whole turn mechanic. It's a game of action efficiency rather than of risk management, where the failed rolls are way less punishing.
Great Alex. Trying to reach you about discrimination and harassment against mental illness I've just suffered in the game industry. I dropped you a couple of emails. Sorry for spamming but I'm looking for a word of support.
No one can harass you online, as YOU choose wether to engage with the internet and social media or not. If.you ever had suffered through REAL harassment, you'd really appreciate the fact that you can just TURN OFF the computer, and all the mean words go away. My ex girlfriend lit my car on fire, bleached my clothes and ran my girlfriend off the road. IE, real harassment. You'll know it if you experience it
As a fan of football, Blitz Bowl was a bit of a letdown (Season 2, specifically). I think what brought down experience was the dice rolling + checking the objectives; mechanically a competion between luck and strategy. I prefer Super Fantasy Brawl for skirmishing, and I'm tempted by Trick Shot, but I need to move on my copy of Blitz Bowl before I can justify it.
I think the season 3 is a big improvement to season 2 since doing touchdowns and playing the ball is much more rewarded than brawling. They drastically reduced the amount of challenge cards which rewards tackling. And they also changed the rules the way that no matter how many criteria for hindering a pass are fulfilled the throwing dice roll is never reduced for more than 1. They did a lot of little changes and also rebalances the teams. This version is awesome. I also love Super Fantasy Brawl. But the problem with SFB is that an experienced player is a LOT better than a less experienced because this game has an extremely strong meta game. Knowing which cards the other player has and which situations you should avoid or what moves you can prepare becausr of cards you will still get into your hand makes it a lot easier to control situations on the boars while the less experienced player just plays the cards he draw in the situationally best way. :)
@@thepikay4378 I kind of want to give Blitz Bowl another shot, specifically Season 3, but I think I got too games ATM. Need to reclaim and cull before I go on another acquisition spree.
So when is Alex going to play actual Blood Bowl? 😃

@@bradp6452 exactly! Meant as a "beer & pretzels" game or as a 30 min lunch break game. Ya want more complexity? Play Blood Bowl!

Blitzbowl is great in its own right though, detached from big brother blood bowl

You don't need to buy entire new teams. You CAN just sub in different miniatures which I think was a solid done by Games Workshop.

It's definitely nowhere near as interesting as Blood Bowl, but it's fine for a fun time killer.
@@NeverTheSame Id say it was vastly superior, blood bowl bores me now, it takes too long an most matches end with the same low scoring results
