  • An Africa border crossing. We travel from Malawi to Zambia via the Mchinji Border. I share some tips on things to consider when crossing a border in Southern Africa. This video is to show people what a border crossing is like. It does not reflect all the type of border crossings in Africa.

    Very handy video! Joining the "Drive" groups (DrvieMoz, DriveBots, DriveZam etc etc) is also very handy in Southern Africa as they have all the border paperwork, procedures online and contacts on the ground if you get stuck with anything.

      You love Zambia so much. I have seen you comment on most videos related to Zambia, especially the Copperbelt Province.

    Ah border crossings. I have done scores in the couple of decades I've been travelling in Africa and boy have there been a few memorable ones. The worst experience was at the Nyamapanda border, going from Mozambique to Zimbabwe. It was all fine on the Moz side, but oh boy, the big, fat policeman on the Zim side. He was apparently quite infamous for eliciting bribes and he did not disappoint. Thank you for this episode and I trust you are safe and well with the lockdown.

      Thanks for sharing your story Grant, border crossing are always interesting and almost never the same. We are safe in South Africa during lockdown. Stay safe!

      Ha ha Grant what is it about Zim borders! My first time I bought a bakkie for exploring southern Africa, I went from Pretoria and drove up to the Beitbridge border crossing.......... hell fire. That place is mental.
      Thanks JJ for adding this. Nice reminder that I am not alone trying to work these places out

    You should do a complete review/walkaround of the truck. Like Truck choice and mods, Electricity system, Kitchen, accessories and the essentials to overland for months and more...

    Thank you so much this is exactly what I was looking for!
    So if I may ask, first you go through the Malawian authorities to exit Malawi, then you physically cross the border, then you go through the Zambian authorities to enter Zambia.
    These are all separated procedures and the two authorities don't communicate with each other, right?

    As a matter of interest we wondered what was the average distance you traveled per day. Or number of hours per day.

    • @JubasJourney
      @JubasJourney  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We tried not to travel more than 400km per day, our longest drive was 600km per day. Our average was 120km per day. We traveled 25000km in 7 months between Cape Town and Malawi and back.
