      Because of your content on inspiration outfits, I now pull up an inspiration photo the night before. It's so much fun and helping me use my entire wardrobe. I'm also focused on one in, two out to support my low buy year.

    Thanks for sharing! Some of my goals are…
    - NO MORE BLACK. EVER. I’m removing it from my wardrobe for good and not buying any more. Only true Autumn colours, per my analysis.
    - Become best friends with my tailor. I have so many clothes that are 90% perfect, and a simple trip to the tailor would make it 100%. Enough laziness.
    - Get fully ready for the day (unless truly sick, doing gross housework, etc.). Clothes, accessories, hair, makeup. The whole thing ensemble.
    - Secondhand first. There are VERY few things so urgent that I cannot wait until I can find it secondhand.
    - Wear things out. Consigning and donating have been amazing, but it’s time to stop relying on those options. Time to wear stuff out. And if it’s not something I am willing to commit to wearing out, I won’t buy it.
    Hope you’re having a great January! Love from Vancouver!

      I also wrote "No More Black!" in my style notes. I feel you. It's so tempting, but as an autumn it just doesn't work for me and the rest of the clothes in my closet.

    On Sundays, I prepare my outfits for the week. I take the time to style my outfits and hang them on my rack. This way, my clothes are chosen with intention, carefully curated and I can have fun changing out pieces so that the things I love stay in the rotation.

    For 2025, I am taking a pause from clothing purchases AND from decluttering any of my clothes. I want to use and appreciate everything that I have, which is also so much more than I need. I have made a list of items I may want to let go of at the end of the year, and my intention is to go to those first when getting dressed.
    I don't feel super-rigid about this--if I really need something, I will get it--but it is amazing to see already how many "needs" aren't needs at all. And when I see something I might want to buy, it is so easy to ask myself, "is this worth breaking the pause for?" and that's that. No purchase made.
    Your channel has been an inspiration and has given me the behavioral tools I need to put this in place and see it through. Thank you. Keep doing what you're doing! You are changing people's lives. 💖

    Re: rotating all the pieces in your wardrobe and documenting it on short form Instagram and TikTok: could you also post them on TH-cam if that is not too much extra work? I am an extreme minimalist about social media and only watch TH-cam. I wouldn’t want to miss any of your posts. I love your channel! Good luck on your 2025 “resolutions”.

    I do a reverse hanger and half and half. So I start with everything with the hangers facing the wrong way, if I wear it then I move the hanger the “right way” and then if I wear it again I move it to one side of my closet. That way I know which pieces I’m wearing 0, 1, 2+ times. I have a small closet so it helps me see easily what pieces I’m not reaching for over the year and then deciding are they just an occasion piece or no longer serving me. It also helps me look at styling my clothes rather than just shopping. This process has also helped me find if there are any “gaps” that I need to find or do I have something else that can fill that “need.”

    For wearing all my clothes, on 2024 I started turning the hangers to mark what I had worn already so I would get to a point that I was looking for those hangers that I hadn’t turned yet and made myself create an outfit with it. That’s how I found some items that made me uncomfortable and that’s why I didn’t grab them often… so I declutter those and it also helped me find some items that I truly like but I just need to practice styling them more. It was also a good way to see my “go to. I did a round and now I am on my second round of turning hangers.

    A big Amen to daily gratitude! It does help. I write a few sentences per day in a journal that is actually three years of days. I really enjoyed doing this last year and look forward to finishing it, and keeping it like a scrapbook with printed photos, too. I'm going to give these journals to my twin sons someday. I keep thinking of Vivienne Westwood's famous quote: "Buy less, choose well, make it last." This is the rule I pretty much have in my head every time I buy any clothing or accessories. It works well for me! "Spending more" isn't part of that at ALL. Because quality doesn't always match cost. My goal is to not have ANYTHING to get rid of after Christmas, 2025.

    At the beginning of the year, I decided no buy on clothes til March 1. The fact that we're only at January 19 and I feel like I haven't bought an item of clothing in actual months shows how quickly I was accumulating things. Gross. But I'm loving it, I have so much more free time away from the Poshmark and TRR scrolling.

    Shopping in person is huge!!! I'm personally tired of using my bedroom as a fitting room. You don't get to see, feel, or try it on if you are shopping online. Due to changes in my body, I now have to order multiple sizes to try and find the right fit for my body. Plus, the time consumption of having to return items to the store or the post office is a drag. Of course, the downside is that there are so much online shopping now, that the depth and breadth of items in a brick and mortar is so much less than it used to be. 🤷‍♀

    • @Treacle899
      @Treacle899 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That’s been my preferred method of shopping. Plus it’s fun, especially if you go with someone. Bonus for more social interaction vs screen time. Another benefit, you can always try in-person and order online if you need a specific color/size.

    i like how you reframed the concept of dupes. Focusing on why am I drawn to that piece - what are the elements that I like (like you said: red. pointed toe, patent, silver hardware) and then maybe being open to finding another brand or vintage/second hand that has something similar. If i can't really articulate those elements then maybe I am only being drawn to it because I've seen it on someone else, its on a list of trends, or just because its the brand and wanting to have that thing without articulating why/what - usually those purchases end up being the mistakes if you are just hunting for a "dupe" for the wrong reasons.

    I am addicted to the quick hits of dopamine shopping and returning. I think the hardest part was admitting I had a problem. You captivate and inspire me simply because you admitted your tendencies too. I discovered you a month ago and preordered the journal. I know the journal will inspire me even more while keeping me accountable during this mindset transition. Thank you!

    My goal this year is to focus on quality over quantity. I won't be buying on shein or other fast fashion. I want to save up to buy good quality pieces that look fabulous and last long. And of course aligns to my personal style. Same with accessories. Owning a few fabulous statement pieces and daily wear pieces and no more cheap accessories that rust over time.

      For my birthday in November I bought a stylish MUCH smaller jewelry box for my everyday accessories and curated it to my best quality and/or most stylish favorite pieces only. I donated and gave away a few items, but the rest of my costume jewelry or old keepsakes I never wear, are in my old jewelry box and stored away. It has made me feel so much more polished, and makes it easier to find my go to items each day.

    My main rule for this year is to do barely any shopping, however if I do it will only be for absolute winners that I adore and that will be a workhorse in my wardrobe. I already have all the clothes a girl could possibly wear and I also want to just love, enjoy and play with what I have rather than chasing after the next thing. That also means dialling WAY back on TH-cam.

    Love your point about shopping in person vs online. I’ve also discovered in the past year, because I tracked my purchases, that I made much better choices when I shopped in person. That was a very interesting revelation to me, and one which helped me a lot! ❤

  • @seltzermint5
    @seltzermint5 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

    For me purging my wardrobe often is a gamechanger. It makes me really take regular inventory of all my belongings and what has stayed past its prime. I know it sounds kind of time consuming but it helps me more when I set aside stuff for a local high school's thrift closet, for clothing swaps with adventurous younger friends, and then basics to traditional charity shops. For example I don't need 3 Fjallraven Kanken backpacks when I only use one. Donating them and hearing about high school girls squealing with glee to get gently used $80 backpacks was so wonderful to hear.

    I have one BIG goal for 2025 as far as wardrobe/ style goes… To digitize my ENTIRE wardrobe with Indyx. I started before the holidays but I need to get back on it now that the holidays are over and I’m not sick. As I go long I know it will organically make me get rid of stuff too (sell, donate, give away, etc).

    Once you’ve worn or laundered an item, hang it back up on the left side of your closet rod…that way everything files down to the right side and that’s what you’ll be dressing with. It will allow you to see the pieces that you don’t wear often and decide the fate of those few pieces you just don’t really love and that don’t really represent you.

    I’m in the process of switching out polyester and synthetic clothing, for 90%/10%-100% natural/synthetic. Which is a huge undertaking. All my pajamas and underwear are 95% bamboo. And I have a nice little collection of 100% cashmere tops, sweaters, and 1 pair of pants. Slowly but surely. Having strict and picky requirements for purchasing new clothes has made the biggest difference.

    I relate to the shoes problem 😅 I live in central Sweden (probably a relatively similar climate to where you live!) and commute to my work by bike. So I am always wearing my practical boots to avoid getting too cozy with the ice on the pavement 😂 but I have started to keep my nice white sneakers in my office and change when I get there in the morning. They go well with everything so I feel a bit cooler 😊
    (In general, it is really common to switch out of your outdoor shoes in Swedish workplaces to avoid tracking slush everywhere, but I don't know if this is common anywhere else?)

And definitely agree about the online shopping 🛍️- I obsess much more about online purchases and feel as though I talk myself into keeping a lot of them even when they aren’t the best fit or as high of quality as I would have hoped. The only thing that bothers me is that stores seem to carry a lot less stock since the big C so sometimes, it’s harder to find your size/colour in-store

    I am trying to use what I already have to create the vibe I want and it's been working out a lot better than I expected. I loved a look with orange Sambas and created my own version with red platform Pumas I already have. Totally worked. I also have created a challenge for myself to buy ONE purse in 2025. I tend to pick up 5-6 purses that cost between 20-60 and this year I'm not doing that but will pay a lot more if I do find a "perfect" handbag. We shall see!

    I totally got the last two intentions, because I've been working on the same! Buying the [clothing or makeup] "dupe" has more often than not led me to crave the higher quality item more, and end up purchasing it anyway. There's usually a downside to a cheap copy.
    I've also been learning to think about what specific features and qualities I'm looking for, instead of browsing a particular brand for something to want. It's so important to know your wardrobe and the gap you need to fill, rather than buying something because you like the brand and the item is cute. I have too many unworn clothes and shoes because I wasn't mindful of my inventory.

    What you said about in person shopping is so true. I buy so much less in person than online. I also am able to try it on and that too helps but honestly I know myself so I can say nah that is fantasy self talking etc. I think what I am focusing on is buying less, picking the right pieces that I don't have a duplicate for and getting a few more pairs of shoes as I feel there are gaps in my wardrobe but those definitely should be done in person!

    I love that you're intending to bring your "cute" shoes to work with you! I am bringing my shoes to work too, as I take public transit (TTC and GO), and I do this all year. It can be a bit of a pain to carry more stuff, but OTOH I am wearing and enjoying my footwear. Especially this time of year with the wet, salt, slush, snow, ice, frigid temps, etc. when boots are more practical to wear to work.

    Have you tried candle meditation? It can help if you have a busy mind & there are realistic candle apps for phones for travelling/places you can’t have a candle. I love keeping things in my Save for Later basket on Amazon because I so often decide not to buy them once “later” comes. It’s good how you’re honest about doing this as part of being a recovering shopaholic. My goal is to only wear clothes that fit me now (losing weight that crept up on me in 2024) & that feel like “me”. Goal 2 is to embrace “medium” as my key style word: medium shoulders, medium-tall, medium curve (wavy), medium brown hair, neutral-cool skin, medium-high contrast. I like how I look but I don’t fit easily into many style classification systems because of it, so I might get a colour analysis done as part of this. Goal 3 is to really hone in on my style roots (earth, mushroom, fire, I think). Goal 4 is to get underwear that fits me comfortably now. Even though it’s expensive, it’s worth it for something I wear every day.

    I really appreciated your goals and that they went beyond just a "no buy" rule. A lot of these resonated with me this year. Watching your channel and some others, including Allison, has inspired me to flex my creative fashion muscles this year and see how long I can keep coming up with new outfits in my closet. Some of your tips will definitely be helpful in achieving that primary goal and really focusing on honing my personal style with signature pieces I already own.

    Great video! Im decluttering my wardrobe from clothes I haven’t worn in a year. I’m going for a more simple style this year, no more unmatched patterns and colors. I thought I downsized my closet a lot but when I counted I still have a long way to go. On the plus side, we bought an over night apartment and I need a simple office friendly closet there. I also love the idea to just bring the bare minimal there. That helping me to try to live a more minimalistish life🤩

    My 2025 intention is to stop buying more clothes, shoes, handbags and other accessories. It has been two weeks so far and I feel excited about this process. Focusing on creating more ideas instead of buying new clothes is brilliant. I love the idea of wearing each item at least once. I shall try that! You have inspired me so much.

    Great video. I always buy secondhand first, and this year I am intending that if I can't find it secondhand, I don't buy it at all. Also I focus on fabric and quality, so no synthetics (except for activewear). I am aiming to not buy more than 5 clothing items in the year. Just finishing my no buy January, which has been good.

Focus on fit-Go to tailor with 2 items. Replacements and wardrobe gap purchases only (most difficult goal.) Low Buy year. Thanks Christina.

    Really enjoyed this vlog. I'm doing a Low Buy January and Beyond over 10 categories in my life (I am allowing myself clothes from charity shops as long as it is an intentional purchase or something I really love). After January I will review it and see which ones I want to continue and how much more intentional it has made me. I did a no buy month a few years ago and found it really hard😬Day 20 and I've not bought any clothes or accessories so far just been styling from what I already own.😁

    I also plan to wear each piece this year (I don't own sparkly gowns and dresses anymore anyway). Some of the clothes just don't get much wear because we think of saving them for that special occasion. I think it's also because of the judgment we think we could get if we repeat outfits (imo nobody really cares).

    • @seltzermint5
      @seltzermint5 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      you are so correct that no one really cares if we repeat outfits. A few years in the past I feel that I "saved" my cutest most put-together looks because I didn't want to wear them too often. But due to that I would wear really boring combinations that did nothing for me. Now I would rather have like 6 super cute put together outfits that I wear in heavy rotation and no "boring" looks at all. When I think of some of the most stylish women I've known in real life they often repeated their cutest looks!

    Even though I shop almost exclusively secondhand, I fell into the over-shopping online trap in 2024. My goal for 2024 is stop and ask myself, “if I’m patient, could I thrift something like that locally in store?”
    I also devoted a good chunk of my holiday break from work to catalog my entire closet on Indyx. When I get the urge to scroll thredup or poshmark, I open the app and style pieces I already own instead.

      @ haha I know that feeling. Some of my clothes which I’m loathe to get rid of, I’d look like mutton dressed as lamb if I attempted to wear them now. But as I’m getting on a bit half of me is thinking that when I pop my clogs, my kids will just skip the lot of em - I’ll have to leave a note to say “ don’t skip my trench coats, good leather boots and handbags” . I’m meeting the angel of death half way these days 😂😂😂

    I'm struggling with styling the clothes that I already have. I have a lot of basics (mostly in black) I find that the looks that I'm drawn to, don't necessarily flatter my body type. That being said, I won't buy any more new clothes (at least until March) Trying to pay off some cc debt, so I tell myself "no buy until March" but realistically it needs to be for longer.
    My fear is that this "no buy" will be a permanent thing. For most of my life, I had almost no clothes. Seriously, I was a single mom and kids came first. It was an easier time getting dressed for sure, but it didn't feel good.
