Dvalin will always have a special place in my heart for being such a spectacular introduction to this game's bosses
They perfectly captured the powerful, but sad vibes that dvalin gives off. Like, you can sense that this thing is trying to kill you, but is tortured while trying to do so.

Unless another game's soundtrack blows me away this year, Genshin Impact, a f2p open world gacha game, is *Best Score/Music of the year 2020* for me. *Edit: Sadly it wasn't nominated for best score. It was beat out by The Last of Us Part II, Doom Eternal, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, FF7 Remake, and Hades. _Genshin Impact was nominated for best mobile GOTY and best Role-Playing game though.
idk it depends if you count some xenoblade chronicles definitive edition as a game (or even persona 5 r). There's a lot of good video game ost. However it there were to be a best mobile game award, Genshin would probably win
@@theolegrand6657 Well I meant for this year specifically. I don't mean the best video game osts *ever* made. Persona 5 R came out 2019 but the original game came out 2016. XC Definitive came out this year but the original came out 2010/2011. I actually love both the osts of those games a lot! But yeah for _this_ year, 2020 I think Genshin Impact wins. The only game I'm really looking out for is Cyberpunk 2077 like someone else suggested above. But the music genres are both wildely different, I think I will always prefer Genshin's over Cyberpunk's even if it is great because I'm not very much a punk rock kind of person ^^
the whole Old Mondstadt atmosphere was deeply emphasized by the music. not much actually happens in the quest, but the ruins definitely felt like a lot of things *had* happened in there
People say mondstat was the worst region , i disagree highly. People want to argue it was boring and mundane but the simplicity is what got me hooked. Such a beautiful area , and you fight a dragon ? Teaming up with jean ,venti , diluc, was awesome . Idc. Mondstat will forever be my favorite region
I love how the song starts with 7 beats in a measure and slowly spreads out measures with 7 beats throughout the remainder of it while it becomes increasingly less common. Great touch.
The fact the song itself is a masterpiece for many reasons. One reason being is that the OST itself signifies Dvalin's pain and suffering as he struggles. I'm telling you every song Genshin makes is so symbolic and perfect.
0:00 Dvalin's loneliness and pain 1:25 Venti's attempt to save Dvalin 1:55 Dvalin's rage and his attack on Mondstadt 2:27 Traveler, Jean, and Diluc join in to save Dvalin

So....Magnificant. It still just blows me away the budget they put into a f2p game, even with the projected revenue from gatcha system. They went full-tilt on the quality of EVERYTHING this game offers. This track is a testament to that fact. Bravo MiHoYo. Hats off to this masterpiece.
It has already recouped its development cost, don't feel sorry for them. Game is amazing, monetization is terrible, and is a unapologetic rip off of BOTW with streamlined mechanics and waifus. This game reflects the Chinese gaming development/market so much to me, at least in triple AAA games that it's frustrating: amazing talents that don't have any saying in the products creation, of studios clinging to successful formulas instead of creating something truly unique, of amazing games with ruthless P2W MTX.

@@sanae99.9.9 Same. But I did not know that you could climb on Stormterror without taking damage until I looked up the Wiki for tactics. I just let Noelle spin around until Stormterror gets up again.
Close your eyes and think about the underlying cause for the fight. It isnt to defeat some big bad threat. It isnt to vanquish some evil force. Its to help someone(thing) understand that we arent there to kill or hurt it. We're there to save it. Think of how sad Venti is when he sees the tears, how destraught Jean is as a devotee to the god and all things anemo, how our character understands the bond between them and the need to fix it, how we're just trying to cleanse it. I have a love hate relationship with the memories of fighting it. I love it because its such an easy fight no matter what difficulty you have it on but i hate it because of the meanings and the deepness and the pain. When windblume came around this year i got excited seeing this as one of the songs but the first time i played it i messed up because i started crying. Dvalin, Venti, the knights, the traveler, all of the first "act" is filled with pain and agony and loss and just... Its a lot. I have just about 15 accounts for the game. Every time i go to fight Dvalin for the first time i cry. Everytime i cry out that im not trying to hurt him. Everytime i have to watch as i hurt him. Ventis cry out of "JUST LISTEN TO ME" gets me everytime.
@@Fernando-xr4wb This track specifically sounds like a song from it though. Especially with the background women notes. I dont think they were comparing the osts as a whole.

I'm like 3 hours before my deadline, and this song is making the situation way more intense. I suddenly rush my works and just trying to get it done in like 30 mins.
Love the 6/8-7/8 alternating time signature at the start (or maybe the composer wrote in 13/8?) up till 0:54 where it settles into 6/8, and the throwback to the shifting time signature at 2:57! Yu-Peng Chen seems to like employing this style to create a sense of tension and unease, which he also uses in the other epic boss fights e.g. Osial (Vortex): 5/8 throughout, then alternating 5/8-7/8 before settling into 4/4. Really exhilarating!
Oh wow, I didn't know this was performed by the London Philharmonic! Mihoyo really is not cutting any corners with this game. can't believe it's free to play
The absolutely godly melody line(which, I'm not sure, but I'm almost 100% convinced it's just a really fast organ) on top of the strings is just... wow. Everything in this is mind-blowing. But then again, genshin is one of those games where sometimes my dumb ass has to pause all the gameplay, like physically make my character stop walking so that I can listen to the music. It's like that. It just catches you off guard. I remember times where I just went like "Wow. Wow. What the fuck".
Dvalin's fight reminded me of Grima from Fire Emblem Awakening. A divine being Naga (Venti) helps you get onto Grima's back (Close to Dvalin's back) to fight off enemies (dodge air bullets) to defeat the vessel Robin (The evil crystal spike)
it felt like dvalin fight was more of a platinum games (bayonetta, astral chains) fight with a few platforms and circular thingy with big boss in the middle. and having andrius to be fought in multiplayer in a more classic arena made me think of monster hunter or dark souls (Sif, the Great Grey Wolf)
Théo Legrand Yea I got those vibes too, my biggest complaint about the Dvalin fight is just how jank it felt, especially with the gliding. The game doesn’t feel like it was designed to be played from that angle and it kinda shows.
Something With Ultra easy fix for that is just making enemies take way more fall damage and making it to where you can change elevations when attacking. Getting stuck on a small ledge mid-combo is obnoxious, knocking an enemy off a cliff only for them to live and stay in combat (or worse reset) is stupid.
The real boss is not Dvalin, it's the camera angle.

It's crazy how far we've come. We went from the first boss being near pure orchestra to the latest boss's second phase having no orchestra. The threats have just been getting higher and higher.
Dvalin will always have a special place in my heart for being such a spectacular introduction to this game's bosses
They perfectly captured the powerful, but sad vibes that dvalin gives off. Like, you can sense that this thing is trying to kill you, but is tortured while trying to do so.
1:25 When you don't want to fight, and neither does your enemy. But there are no words left, and all that remains is the tragedy of naked blades, the bloodshed that was always going to come. There was never any avoiding this. Fight well; it's all you can do now.
Which is true there never really was any way to avoid a fight with dvalin you had to get those corrupted crystals off him somehow and he wasn't just gonna let you

Fully agreed. I have not heard such brilliant music in a long time. Let's see what Cyberpunk has to offer and will it live up to its hype?
@@EatingWaffles but don't forget that we only taste 2/7 of the Tevyat music... and they can always add more music in future events
idk it depends if you count some xenoblade chronicles definitive edition as a game (or even persona 5 r).
I was gonna recommend Ghost of Tsushima music until I fully read what you said ☹️

the whole Old Mondstadt atmosphere was deeply emphasized by the music. not much actually happens in the quest, but the ruins definitely felt like a lot of things *had* happened in there

The fact the song itself is a masterpiece for many reasons. One reason being is that the OST itself signifies Dvalin's pain and suffering as he struggles. I'm telling you every song Genshin makes is so symbolic and perfect.

This song is beautiful and the battle itself is well designed. Only seeing good things from genshin so far.
So....Magnificant. It still just blows me away the budget they put into a f2p game, even with the projected revenue from gatcha system. They went full-tilt on the quality of EVERYTHING this game offers. This track is a testament to that fact. Bravo MiHoYo. Hats off to this masterpiece.
tbh you wont be surprised if u see how hard Whales are spending in honkai,
It has already recouped its development cost, don't feel sorry for them.

What I hear every Monday morning
Ventis cry out of "JUST LISTEN TO ME" gets me everytime.
this is amazing, i love it. of all battle ost of different games i played so far, this is my favorite.

This shit was like in the first patch of the game. And they got it right first try ffs, that's what you call a boss soundtrack.
Yes. I kind of get that vibe too.
His soundtrack is brilliant
Great music but man the fight could've been better. They make up for it with the Andrius fight though.
it felt like dvalin fight was more of a platinum games (bayonetta, astral chains) fight with a few platforms and circular thingy with big boss in the middle. and having andrius to be fought in multiplayer in a more classic arena made me think of monster hunter or dark souls (Sif, the Great Grey Wolf)
Théo Legrand Yea I got those vibes too, my biggest complaint about the Dvalin fight is just how jank it felt, especially with the gliding. The game doesn’t feel like it was designed to be played from that angle and it kinda shows.
@@Vsolid I mean it's actually one of my major gripes as I constantly have this type of problem when fighting near cliffs and stuff.
