    Turbines gives me chills from head to toe the whole time. Absolutely euphoric song

    the members who contributed as the main vocals on this setlist;
    Tyler Hyde (Bass) - Up Song / I Won't Always Love You / Laughing Song / Dancers / Up Song (reprise) ; Tyler also has a wonderful solo side project "Tyler Cryde" which i highly recommend, its a much more instrumentally stripped back style than BCNR with mainly acoustic guitar and piano, her voice is absolutely heavenly fr
    May Kershaw - (piano/accordion) The Boy & Turbines, her voice is v mesmerizing and she has spoken about being heavily inspired by Joanna Newsom
    Lewis Evans (Sax/Flute/Occasional Aerophone player) - Across The Pond Friend / Wrong Trousers, i think ppl are sometimes kinda hard reharding his vocals, he had a solo side project as well called "Good with Parents" which he only pursued for a year only but a pretty cozy & chill bedroom popish style which is rlly solid, people tend to be more overly critical of Lewis' vocals but out of 1/3 of the members who did vocald on this set he was the only one who had never perfomed live/did vocals outside of the 2 srudio releases of his solo projects but he has legitimately imporved so much both vocally and perfomance wise, looking back on their first gig post Isaac's official derparture announced from around May, 2022; u can clearly tell his vocals wrre much more coarse and he nervous/stiff perfomance wise like constantly looking down; with a rlly stit posture and hande behind his back and he hae improved so much both on terms kt vocals comfortable on stage, i think his songs are definitely "growers" type songs, but overall rlly excited to what will come nect from BCNR as inthink they'll definitely stick with this rotating and not with an exclusive vocalist,i reallt hope we get songs eith Georgia doing vocals because her voice is so uniquely beautiful and i absolutely fell in love with her voice when listening to "I Love u Jennifer B from her project Jockstrap, which was one of my fav records off it 2022, alsoi highly recommended checking "Never Again Pt. 2" which is a compilation of 4 covers they recorded last year and checking their cover of "I Think I need a New Heart" by The Magnetic Fields which Luke Mark (Guitarist) does the main vocals and their cover of "Happier than Ever" by Billie Eilish where the last half has Charlie Wayne (drums) doing the main vocals and the parts wherte he does screaimg bocald legitn gives me chills (which is why it became my perosnal favourite of that reease), its insane how incredibly talentef they all are and think there are still a lot of great things coming BCNR's way

    I was really skeptical, and feared that they will lose too much of what makes them amazing with the loss of Isaac. But I gotta say, they still got it. Sure, Isaac is irreplaceable, and has one of the most unique voices and way of words. But those new songs are still really good, and I gotta say I'm impressed that pretty much all of them can sing, especially girl on piano, who kinda sounds like Regina Spektor. That being said, I still hope Isaac might return one day. Who knows.

    I personally lewis' voice its very costello esque, it's got a softness and nervousness which the other band members don't really have, I love that he has such a confident personality but such a quiet and unsure singing voice. He's my 2nd favourite vocalist besides charlie on drums who didn't preform at bush hall

    Turbines is an amazing song. Girl on Piano also has the best voice, she should be their main singer IMO. I do think Louis voice is good enough, though. Obviously not as good as some of the others, but I did not find it distracting.

    I feel like Lewis' voice you're expecting gravitas when his songs are more based around vulnerability

  • @Purplepentapus_
    @Purplepentapus_ ปีที่แล้ว +32

    I actually really don't mind Lewis' voice. I think objectively his voice is kind of bad and sounds a bit strange, but I think it works for some reason. Its like how Jeff Mangum from neutral milk hotel definitely has some off key and messy vocals on Aeroplane, but the imperfections are actually what make it so powerful and beautiful. In the same way, I don't think the songs would have been as enjoyable if Lewis had great tone and a voice that sounded like any other dude. I can't say I understand why, but sometimes it works better for a song if the singer can't sing very well or sounds a bit odd

    • @dimetrodonz
      @dimetrodonz ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i feel like anything other than lewis's soft, inexperienced and almost unsure singing voice (i dont mean any of that in a bad way obv) wouldnt have worked nearly as well with the song and the lyrics. it suits the song perfectly imo!

      @endgravity honestly idek, I've just seen reviewers say that before and I'm trusting them enough to repeat what they said. To my understanding, he's not super off key or anything, hes just a bit loose on the melody and they didn't use autotune

    Awesome to see you've covered the BCNR bases. You still need to jam midi's Schlagenheim, but I feel like I haven't seen too many people mention the third band in what I call the holy trinity of 2020s era post-punk, Squid. They've got a track called The Cleaner you should check out, and their debut album Bright Green Fields was incredible. Sadly, I think it got a little overlooked. Narrator is one of the best tracks I've heard in a long long time, up there with some of the BCNR - Ants stuff.

    I agree, Lewis had a nice tone but lacks technique. We all miss Isaac, but we wouldn’t have songs like “turbines” “dancers” or “laughing song” so this makes them even more interesting. This band is already music history period.

      I disagree. I think we're at the same level, but just moving in a different direction. There are clearly elements from before that are gone, but they've been replaced with some new elements that give the band a whole new flavor.
