  • This week I'm restoring 'Bob Blackberry' a spotted rabbit sylvanian family doll.
    I will show you the full process of how to care and restore your dirty and worse for wear sylvanian family figurines or calico critters if your from the US. In this video I detail how to clean correctly, how to repaint lost colouring with watercolour paints, how to replace flocking on your dolls fur and how to make simple patterns for missing clothing items, even making a new tail.
    I hope you enjoy this video and if you found it useful give us a like!

    This was most useful! Whilst I don't have the courage to pep up my main collection, I have just bought an inexpensive quartet of damaged Sylvanians - some mucky, one scarred with a marker pen, and a bunny with only one ear. I have "nothing to lose" customising/fixing these figures and I haven't had chance to get attached (!) so your tips on washing and using water colours are most welcome. I may even use some felt to cover the hole where the bunny's ear once was. Making a replacement ear may be a possibility but I would need to investigate that.

    Thank you for the painting tips! ((While this is a cardinal sin i wanted to add more detail to my critters as they all looked so samey, and the mice tails being white always bothered me))

    Nice video, I loved the restoration, was fantastic. I would like to see more videos with Sylvanian restorations because in addition to being a collector I am a mother and my children love to play with them and the poor Sylvanians end up in bad condition! Thank you 😊!

    this is adorable, i loved sylvanian families as a kid and i have a ton of them still hanging around that are all super damaged and dirty 😭 i remember i put one in the bath when i was little and i was so scared when all the flocking came off and i’ve never washed them again LOL
    i love watching people restore old toys though, i always wish i could do it myself but im too afraid of ruining them. i actually found this video after going through my old critters and i was curious if there were ways to repair a lot of the common damages. honestly a restoration of this quality is something i think a lot of people would be willing to pay for!!! i still love my critters though, as they say to be loved is to be changed….🥹

    • @TasminBassettArt
      @TasminBassettArt  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Next time I have a white sylvanian to repair I will. But same concept cut tiny fibers off the fabric or if you have a strong blender maybe that would help grinding into essentially a powder and then just glue and sprinkle to patch from there. I haven't tried myself with felt squares yet so take this advice with a pinch of salt.

    • @TasminBassettArt
      @TasminBassettArt  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It may do I haven't tried on mine. To be safe any repainted areas just brush and tape clean I would say. If you did it in watered down acrylic it may not be affected as much when rewetted.

  • @T34Panda
    @T34Panda ปีที่แล้ว

    I enjoyed seeing the restoration, but would the black gouache or watercolour not run if he were to get wet again? Is there a way to seal it? Thanks 😊

    • @TasminBassettArt
      @TasminBassettArt  ปีที่แล้ว

      It could do. I would maybe use a watered down acrylic which would have more staying power if it were to get wet again. A spray sealent could work but may ruin the soft texture. Ideally using dye or maybe alcohol or waterproof markers would be best for a super permanent finish.

  • @mollyvee

    Have you heard people say the dolls will mold inside if you get them wet? I’m curious to hear your thoughts. I’ve washed mine in water and gotten flack for it. 😢

    • @TasminBassettArt
      @TasminBassettArt  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have heard this. It should be fine as long as you thouraghly dry them and not submerge for too long. I dryed with a hair dryer to make sure. I haven't had any problems since. Bob didn't turn mouldy.

    • @mollyvee
      @mollyvee ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TasminBassettArt that’s kind of what I figured. I actually have a Sylvanian that I got in a thrift bag that beyond repair. I’m tempted to get him wet, leave him to dry and then take him apart to see how much water actually gets in 🤔🤔

    Wouldn't watercolor create stains with any accidental drop of moisture?

    • @TasminBassettArt
      @TasminBassettArt  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well I prefer using the gouache as its a bit steadier if you where worried about it running if you get them wet again you could use slightly watered down acrylic as it sets harder but you do loose the softer texture a little.

      Oh no. You can buy 'flocking' in some art supplies stores or search online. It comes in different lengths so I would get the smaller ones. Fix the patches with a little glue and dust over the flocking. I haven't bought any myself yet so not sure of suppliers. X

    I thrifted a high branch giraffe family because I’ve been looking for them for a while, the previous owner wrote their name on the giraffes feet, I started using a baby wipe and I damaged the flocking on the foot and it keep peeling, I’m scared because I don’t want the flocking to come off completely, what do I do? 😰

    • @TasminBassettArt
      @TasminBassettArt  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm if it's come off I would stick back down what's peeled and fill with either more flocking or a similar fibre cut up small. A little alcohol on a cotton bud may get out a marker stain. But I haven't experimented with heavier staining yet. Good luck.
