I have a request Al. You should do a explanation video on pcv, crank case ventilation, and catch can systems. There's so much debate on this subject, especially for forced induction engine. I'd love to see your take on this, and what you recommend. Keep being awesome guys...
This would be awesome! I know in the Mazdaspeed world the more OCC the better, but in the Ecoboost world there is a lot of push-back against them. Mostly in the twin turbo V6 ecoboost so might have something to do with v6 more than anything.
This show should air on Australian TV for sure. Such an excellent bunch of car nuts and automotive experts deserve to be plastered on every aussie’s TV
The Nova is looking very sweet, these more subtle engine upgrades are really hitting the spot for me, it's something that is doable for a serious home builder, it gives us hope and ideas without being blown into the weeds by major engineering challenges like fitting a Barra into a Bedford. Cheers, thanks guys.
It's hilarious how Al gives off this "I don't give a shit" vibe, and then you watch him drop in a freshly painted intake manifold with such delicate care I'd let him deliver my baby. First born. Best channel on Tube.
Just love the LS engine - so customizable, so reliable, makes decent power without too many mods - the best production car engine series ever made in my opinion.
Please Skid Factory, don't change as your success grows. Many channels a people have become ridiculous. You guys are awesome just as you are. "single man show" haha!!
there actually is a difference between hemi orange and hugger orange. but cut backs at the end of the 80's sought out the end of alot of auto parts and reorganizing their inventory. anyway the two were combined. for your curiosity i believe it was the one with the slightly higher red tinge won.
for a while the hot setup for the claimer racers was Honda ConRods in the SBC, They were forged, longer, and stronger than stock rods, plus dirt cheap from all the riceboys hopping up their Civics. Ain't looked in years, but several places had pistons listed for using Honda rods in a 350 Chev.
So when I want to put an LS into my Chevy and I don´t want it to look like I did I know where I need to go. No unpurifying on my cars tho! Al´s knowledge and designing experience is so awesome.
Dont want to put an oil filler in these nice shiny valve covers. Proceeds to cut massive hole in the back of the valve cover to clear the brake booster....
N3WMAN13 it's right at the back of the engine and out of sight. Better option than moving the servo across a couple of inches with all the extra holes required to remount. Al is already worries about the rust repairs lol!
I was waiting for you to calm the fire people would start about those bolts falling out haha. Awesome oil filler mod, awesome build as usual, keep up the great work guys!
Loving the retro approach to this :) also IMO breathers should be on both tapper covers, fresh filtered air in one (usually passenger side in australia) and out the drivers side via PCV valve to engine vacuum, I think on most newer engine like the L98 use the tapper covers as both fresh air inlet feeds and pull the dirty side out of the valley cover to engine vacuum via PCV valve :)
looks awesome guys love the videos keep up the good work! just a question where do you buy them rubber radiator mount jiggers, chasing some for my rear mount radiator set up on my winch truck cheers lads
Actually sir, the Commodore was the G8/SS/Caprice here in the US. The Monaro was rebadged as the GTO. Either way, both are great platforms, and a '15+ Chevrolet SS/ Commodore with a 6MT is my dream daily driver.
Thank you for the talk about the E46 fuel filter/regulator. I am converting my Peugeot 604 from carbs to Ford Falcon CFI but the 604 has no in tank pump like the Falcon. I think that this E46 thing could be the perfect solution as I can't find an external pump with similar output pressure to the Falcon one.
After a bit of googling it seems that an E46 filter has a line in, line out and return to tank. It also has a vacuum line. Does this go straight to manifold vacuum or does it need to be modulated in some way?
Your turbo yoda who are we to say anything even if i knew how to do what you do i would never say anything you are a master of what you do keep up making good video's
I've been wondering what You call the driveshaft. I'm hearing TAR shaft? Is it a short for something (trans-axle...)? Thanks for the awesome content, keep it up! 👍🏼
I thought you said the aftermarket throttle body efi conversions we're junk. It slightly hurt my feeling til I saw you were using a Holley Terminator lol. Your going to use a haltech to manage it huh? I respect your mcguiver skills. I guess it would make sense since you guys are probably more familiar with the haltech software. Pretty cool
I did an ls swap and forgot to check for correct water pump rotation due to different power steering and alternator location. I found out they make both rotations.
If using the single snorkel intake, which is VERY restrictive, a couple of old-school tricks were using a taller air filter so it could also breath between the cover and base and/or drilling/removing the part of the base outside the filter seal area - the latter being less obvious but I don't think that is too much of a concern at this point? Oh, light spray with some self etching black primer on the radiator and coolers for a more stealthy look?
So this gen of Chev small block didn’t have the steam vents that have to be tied into the radiator? Thought I’d seen that for some of the more modern motors.
Alan Butler oh, gotcha. wanting to put one of these or one of the gen 4 motors in an El Camino I’ve had sitting in the yard a while and typically try to see how people deal with the steam stuff. looking forward to future vids 👍🏼
It is a good idea to retain the front steam ports at minimum. You can plumb them straight back into the water pump at top hose point to tidy the look up a bit.
Anyone know where I can get fittings for the heater core and bypass hose fittings size for a 1967 elcamino with a 454. Put a Chevy performance intake on there. Thanks!
well i wasnt gonna suggest they were gonna fall out into the engine but i am really curious why you bolted it from the inside, was it because the filler neck had a thicker flange so you would be able to get more thread engagement?
Valley cover looks too thin, probably would hold only 2 threads at max. One way to keep a bolt from coming out in this setup is to use a longer one then add a jam nut on top.
@@signlsirchir2156 I had hoped it was just wasnt mentioned that it was safety wired as a precaution. Loctite is good and all but stuff can still come out with heat and vibration.
Using the radiator tank is to control the temperature to around 80c. You can use an external cooler to shed a lot of heat and then run it through the radiator to regulate the temp. That is not very practical in this case though as the hose and fitting size does not match.
"And this is the only time you'll ever see me using car wash" - Yoda, quietly ignoring that on the mcmtv2 channel is the latest episode of the cresta does dragweek series, where he's actually washing the grime off the cresta using the carwash lance :D

Love how the car is coming along. Looks great guys! Can't wait to see the final product and hear that beast of a motor running. :)
Oil filler neck is from an early Subaru 20g engine, never thought I'd see Subaru parts on a Chevy
Shhhh don't say that, chevy guys will have a heart attack lmao
spotted it straight away! same as whats on my RS turbo
Even a subaru is good for something.

It’s amazing how much better the filming and editing has become over the last couple of months. Keep of the good shit 👍👍

Camar Williams That should be a thing from now on. Edit in a badass tune to Al’s one liners.
Al looks so please with himself that he'd hung on to that oil filler for years for a reason.
Thanks for the tip on the fuel filter/regulator. That'll work great for my old truck project.

Enjoy the show Al, hey how long do those step drills stay sharp? I see them used on numerous car show. Thanks
What are those wobbly/universal sockets seen at 8:35? I've seen them in previous videos and they look really handy.
it's not the socket it's the extension that gives the feature. Wobbly 3/8 extension.
when you like the video before seeing it you know its some great video from skidfactory
I like the use of the guitar solos, so much better than the new twisted song!

try using brake cleaner to slip hoses on chap, more easily to hand and its evaporated and gone after so the hose wont slip off again
Love your videos lads. Keep em coming
Fab Fab Fab Fab.
Fabrication.!!!
With the BMW filter do you run a vacuum line back to that regulator?
Just wondering if you knownwhat the guitar solo is at the end. Enjoyed the end of this episode with that.
Is that a large scale RC car body hanging on the wall around 11:30 mark? Who at the Skid Factory races RC?
No one but Woody likes to leave all his junk in the way.
The Leyland Brothers approves Woody's narration style.
I hit the like button before the video even loads

It can be either connected to manifold vacuum or left as is. Manifold vac will reduce the pressure at low engine loads.
