My grandfather always told me there’s people who know music & there are people who are music . Prince was the music
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Your grandfather was right
Grandpa was on it! 👊🏿
Yyyeeessss he was!!!
Grandad was on point.
Prince was one of a kind .... RIP 🙏 🪦
His big hits were garbage. His real music was gteat.
Yeah, you're a musical genius... what's your name again, Mr Nobody or Ms Invisible, or just a no talent person... loosers always judging😮 @WalterArritt
Eh
"Just play the groove, until it's in you."
Such a perfect, succinct description of what music is, what it can be
I'm a keyboardist for me it's play it till it gets funky breaking the familiar patterns to the deep soul piercing unique funky notes in my head
That quote says everything about playing music. Good music. Real music. ❤
Yes ✊🏾@@Yvonne_ennovY
Prince was a musical MASTERMIND...
Genius
A GENIUS HE WAS❤❤❤
And beyond , lt’s sad that we dont realize it until they are gone.
@@tomgibbs1128 no I'm pretty sure everyone realized how much of a musical genius Prince was lol, dude is a megastar who is still talked about for a reason.
About six months ago (about June 2024 that is), there was this posting by a guy here at TH-cam that described Michael Jackson as the "King of Pop" and Prince, as the "Emperor of Music"🙂
Prince helped her unlock her own ability...a true measure of a master at work. Big respect 💯☮️💜
Reminds me of George Duke talking about Frank Zappa. th-cam.com/video/ERFUbX648S4/w-d-xo.html
I love how many prince stories kick off with "omg it's prince"
Yesssss!❤
Right, like there is a puff of smoke and he suddenly transports into the room😂
LOL …
I never thought about it but you’re right!
The great thing about Prince is: Everyone KNEW he was a legend WHILE HE WAS STILL ALIVE. It's not like he is being appreciated "more" after his untimely death - he was ALWAYS appreciated and revered and respected as the mega-musical-genius he was everywhere he appeared in a puff of smoke.
Even Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, but more out of surprise than hero worship
She’s a good bass player! Good advice from Prince too, he was a musical genius!!!
She's regular as far as professionala go
He was fighting the negative frequency which is trying to engulf everyone now. You have to have to incite people to fight that death vibe.
@@Honeybeez5535That's RIGHT! ❤
Prince played that FUNK! The fact that he showed her how he wanted it played is epic! Imagine having Prince be your Music Teacher!
Check out Prince with Larry Graham doing Thank you (it's on TH-cam
Oui avec de ageism;07depuis20*l'anees en plus grand
“Thank You Falettinme Be Mice Elf” is one of my favorite songs of all time.
Yo! I thought that was an error. Didn’t actually think it was the title of the song. Well, shit.
Such a great way of differentiating your song from every other song with a similar title 😂
…AGAIN!!
I love Nik!!! Not only is she a dope musician but she is super humble and just good people in person.
I remember her being on say yes to the dress
What an honor too be singled out and taught by one of the most gifted person that existed in our era….
That was the difference between him and MJ. MJ knew what sound he wanted. He could hear it by ear. Prince would and could put notes and sounds together and would play every instrument with it. He loved music and would jam with anyone 😊
Actually a rarely known fact, Mike could play a few instruments, look it up
I looked it up. Per Google...
Michael played guitar, bass and drums, but supposedly, they were more of a hobby and made it on to VERY few tracks. Also, supposedly, he wasn't masterful at them but not bad.
I miss Prince😢!
Absolutely.. same with James Brown.. he knew the sound he wanted.
That's one difference.
Prince was absolutely brilliant. When he died, I felt my own mortality. His music was such a huge part of my high school years and then beyond. ❤😢
Thank you for sharing this beautiful story 🥰✨.
Rest In Power Prince 👑💎💫🕊️
Prince could play so many instruments……he was a cloud of music.
I love the joy in her face when she is playing!
Being a good bass player is 90% mental… Understanding your role, and how it fits with the song and what the other players are doing.
Kinda why I’m learning guitar 🙃
🧡🧡🧡
Dude you're so off-key about been a bass player im a bass player and yeah that's not true
@@chrisnichols9187 yeah, it seems obvious that you don't value the mental side of playing bass...
@chris nichols It feels like maybe part of your sentence got left out accidentally? You said she was wrong, there's no punctuation at the end of your message, and you didn't say anything about WHY you think she was wrong.
They sounded pretty spot-on to me. Being a bass player is more about knowing your role in the music than playing crazy fills and having super crazy technical skills.
Edit: formatting
That slapped/popped octave slide thing...that was fucking fiiiiiiire.
🔥🔥🔥
absolutely 🎉
Davie504 would be happy
Fire, perfect description. Damn, and my bass just sits there, mocking me and she has it seriously goin’ on. I think I hate my bass...
Ridiculous hat though
She is absolutely gorgeous, and her enthusiasm is infectious.
Look at the joy she exudes in her whole being as she reminisces that moment with Prince.💞💞💯🙌🏽
Prince was a treasure lost far to soon. Loved all his music. RIP
That is some great advice. Prince was a legend. RIP.
Yes, the older you get and more experienced you learn what's important and focus on perfecting it!
Prince put that stank on it. Dig deep. 💜
💯💯💯
Gross
Actually, Larry Graham did. Prince and Larry became friends, so apparently Larry showed him his technique.
Courtesy of Larry Graham
No prince
Showed her she was playing too many notes
She’s exactly right .. her plucking those strings as she demonstrates you can feel the funk in the chords as she played .. funk is a universal sound to all u have to bob your head upon hearing it 😂😂😂😂🫡🫡❤️❤️
Prince was a musical genius. He could basically play every instrument. And when I say play I mean it to perfection. He was one of one.
Wow! This woman is just as stunning as she is talented!
I was just sitting here thinking the exact same thing.
☝🏽 *!!!!!!!!*
She can rip it up! She feels it through and through. .....and her hair is FIRE!❤❤❤
So sad Prince is gone. He was so ahead of his time
He was ahead of all the times he was active in 😂
@@YossGold thanks for repeating what I just wrote
Prince was a phenomenal musician and teacher.
I,like nick west, she,s polished in her very own way.And had a rare opportunity to shine, and shed with prince, she learned something, that day,and she,ll never forget it!!!❤❤😊.
Prince the Genius teaching how to feel it. Great work Prince. We love you.
Prince was the man… I’m 53 and now appreciate everything that man was… brilliant…. Utterly brilliant
Prince was a masterful musician. Thank you for making the world a better place.
That’s Such An Awesome Memory To Carry with You It’s PRINCE👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 You Jammed With PRINCE🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾❤️❤️❤️
I love these Prince stories.
Prince was a musical genius 💯👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾🔥🔥🔥
How cool is she, Everyone should watch, listen and learn from her.
I used to work for Prince in South Beach. One day, after rehearsal, I was chatting with the NPG (minus Prince) and I asked the guys if he was really a perfectionist like I had heard. The entire band agreed that when he wanted you to play your instrument a certain way, he wouldn't "tell" you how he wanted it done - he'd "show" you how he wanted it done. He did that with EVERY instrument!
Picturing Prince grabbing a cello during "Rasberry Beret".
😅
One of A KIND. REST in Peace Prince
He's the only person credited for every instrument on his first album. He was just THAT talented and determined to get it right that he did it all himself. When the album hit and he needed to tour, he taught all the incoming musicians how to play every part of every song.
U lucky n I never even met himm...
"EVERY" Instrument? I don't think so. NOT ANY HORNS! Guitar, bass, piano, drums. But NOT no HORNS!
That song, “thank you, for letting me, be myself….” Has a cold bass line too. I can see why they practiced with that song.
Back when being in a band meant something special.
All these stories from musicians talk about how cool Prince was and how he taught them something new. I'm glad I was able to see him perform live a couple of times. RIP Prince.
The scary thing about Prince is that he could have grabbed anybody's instrument (keeps your minds out of the gutter) and showed them how he wanted them to play it.
It aint scary its just listenin to a guy who knows how they want somethin to sound
In a rock band. I think he might struggle on oboe.
Bass, guitar, keys and drums are far from every instrument.
😂
@@Brad5161he played 27 instruments!!!
@sirjer73 27 unique instruments? I call bull.
For exampl... are there multiple keyboards on that list? Multiple percussion?
I was in a band I played the spoons you think this prince feller can play forkie and knifie better than me!!! Those is my spoons!!!!
Prince is a fantastic bass player. Listen to any after show bootleg where he’s playing bass and you’ll be blown away
I'm a mediocre bass player In a local band for 20 yrs...I needed to hear this. Thank you!
Love me some Prince!!! His genuine and generous genius lives on in all the people he touched and I LOVE HEARING ABOUT IT.
Thank You for sharing.
Rest easy Prince 🙏🏾,803
Prince was so amazing. A true genius. So sad we lost him so early. Rip artist formerly known as prince.
Bass commandment, "Thou shalt not F-up the groove".
AMEN!!! EVER!!!!
Just play the groove.
Drummers need to take that same advice also, play the beat, don't chop and solo when it's not your time.
2nd commandment: Thou shalt not think you're a certified, legitimate bass player until thou hast listened to William "Bootsy" Collins do his thang.
Thou shall never be caught with a plectrum (pick to us yanks) for he shall be cast out to walk the floors of guitar center for all of time. So let it written, so let it be done.
Learning from Prince was your moment. Opening your full potential is what was shared to you.
....Yes "💜Prince ie one of a kind💜.....i miss his Live stage performing.....Rip..🕊🕊💜💜
When it comes to music you don't play it, you tune into it and feel it, and the music plays you!
Prince was a creative genius, you can't dispute that.
Prince is highly underrated. Top 5 guitarist in my eyes
Respect that. I feel like he's definitely one of the best musicians ever. He was just good at so many things, it wasn't just guitar. That man just understood music.
@@magpie9208 If something exists, it's underrated. That's just TH-cam comment section law.
That dude was so talented and he made Minnesota proud! Best concert I've ever seen.
When a master musician teaches musicians hip on a whole different level. There is a reason why Prince was as highly regarded.
Her energy is immaculate.
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
That’s why I love Jane’s Addiction. Their bass player plays the same groove almost the whole way through the song. Simple. But effective.
If you don't feel that groove, nobody else is gonna. It starts in your soul, works its way through your body to the fingertips. through the bass, through the cables, through the amp and the sound system. through the floor, the walls and the ceiling and into the ears, bodies and souls of the people.
Freakin love this
Yes! Yes! Yes! Never lose sight of the grove. It is the POWER of the bass!
Thank you for sharing this story, and for being so damn awesome.
People forget that part.. the groove. It’s all about the vibe man.
So often these days everyone wants over the top no matter if its drums, guitar, bass, etc....and they fail to realize the beauty in pocket, SPACE, and groove.
Best comment
xactly. wasnt hard to hear she was too off
, Prince is like one of the best musicians I ever heard just watch him play while my guitar gently weeps unbelievable
Amen
What was cold about him playing, is when he was finished and tossed the guitar over his head after the solo. EPIC.
Must have been amazing -- love that 🎶🎸
Prince was a genius. Natural raw talent. Guys like that don't come along every day.
Best advice she could ever get! Wow it’s a blessing being able to learn from the greats
What a honor and a privilege to be able to say that you played with “Prince “!!!!💯💯💯💯💯💯🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
That's why he was a GENIUS
Man I could listen to Prince stories all day
She has that "IT" factor fo sho.
Her talent really shows..
Prince knew what he was doing..
What it factor???
Honestly she isn't even top 5 bass players who played in his bands
Prince was a music Prodigy!!!
She is so amazing. And what she said makes so much sense. At pow wows and stuff it's the groove thT is being played. Till it just gets in you!
It’s very freeing to finally realize what a good bassist is supposed to do and how much power there is in the almighty groove!
Prince was musical genius🙌🏾‼️ RIP ❤
I hate that I waited until after his death to realize what a great musician he was and he could play all types of instruments and he was a great guitarist also!
Bro, Prince left a musical Universe here. It's never too late. It's so much music, go ahead and jump into it. Enjoy the ride!
Prince was so fckn talented...one of my favorite artists
She is a whole vibe! Beautiful and talented. I'm sure Prince saw that in her as well ❤
That change really hit!
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Yeah, when she played how Prince did it really hitted (😁😁) different
She's gorgeous 😍
He showed her how to put the stank on it
Exactly
She's 100% right...no matter how well you can play.....make all different kind of crazy chords or fingersettings...you have to play in the groove..at ALL times...
She is so right❤
I remember a video of Victor Wooten sharing a similar message.
🧡🧡🧡
Speaking of Victor Wooten, if you've never listened to Victor's audiobook called "The Music Lesson" I would recommend you do. Its absolutely phenomenal. It use to be on youtube for free, and might still be. Its so good. Wooten's audiobook "The Music Lesson" is SO good! 🤙🖖
@Wabi-sabi8551 thank you so much for sharing! I'll definitely look for that! 😱🙌🏿👏🏿😎💯
Gon check that out
Guy was a fucking amazing musician, easily one of the best musical minds in the history of humanity.
Faaacts!
That's so true, the Discipline of playing the groove without fills is so important to understanding the heart beat of the sound
Prince was a different breed. Self taught on all the instruments he played and in my opinion one of the top 3 guitarist to ever live
I've been a huge fan of Prince since I was a little bitty boy. His music just got down in my bones. I feel where she's coming from. His grooves/personality are set apart. .
Prince had a feel, and he influenced everybody around him.
Prince was influenced by Sly and the Family Stone,James Brown,Parliament funkadelic and Earth Wind and Fire.
Imagine being taught musicianship by Prince!❤
Prince was a talent.
🔥🔥🔥
Much Gratitude Nik West...Wonderful and Beautiful❤️🌻🕊️😍🤩❤️...
I've played bass for over 50 yrs. My main mentor/teacher has been Chuck Rainy. Chuck instilled in me to groove. I've always been a strong reader, ready to take a solo, locking with my drummer. But establishing and keeping the groove... it opened soooo many doors, can never thank Rainman enough for that simple but oh so fundamental lesson.
Love her, love that story.
🧡🧡🧡
The envy I feel! What an amazing story and what an amazing experience to have gotten to jam with Prince!
Chills. Dang, I miss Prince
God l miss that man ❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼
That sound went from Plain Jane to Mary Jane 😂.🔥
Even though he was a complete maniac behind-the-scenes, you cannot deny prince’s amazing gifts
Holy shit that hair is more impressive then princes
• than
Like a beautiful purple crested cactus
@@nathanielvargas3863 like a purple tangled mess of nappy hair!!!!😆😆😆
@@ZYGTropicals that couldn’t be further from the truth
she’s devastatingly beautiful…. Plus the hair! Lol, so sexy
What a great story. Prince was great 👍🏾
She just gave young bass players a solid gold brick!! You dont need to go searching. Hold that groove down, and the opportunity for tasty fills will find you.
I love that idea. Miles Davis said something once that stuck with me in a very similar fashion - not verbatim but it went something along the lines of - that thing you hear in your head, that you normally play - don’t play it - accompany that with your playing. It’s really opened up my playing on every instrument.
Prince was a Master musician!!
