Wow. Great mini-lecture. Very quickly and efficiently, yet very clearly articulated all 3 arguments.

I understand all three's takes. 🤯 I'm struggling with what I find morally right and wrong vs what I would choose to do and if I would be willing to deny another woman the right to choose. I don't want to be told what I can and cannot do, but my feeling is...that's a child. So I personally wouldn't. I wouldn't want to condone murder either. 🤔 I'm stuck. As much as this is helpful...I still don't know my stance. 🤦🏽‍♀️

Creating life that can possibly go to hell forever is incredibly immoral

You don't have to pick a side.. If a woman has a baby or an abortion, that's a choice she has to live with for the rest of her life (and perhaps beyond). For me, the most distasteful part of pro-choice is they try to diminish the worth of a fetus, when science still cannot understand what is consciousness. It's the same with people who eat meat and try to pretend they are not violent people. The "justification" is worse than the violence, since it allows people to feel "good" and "innocent" without taking responsibility for their violence. Instead, I think it is more honest if we admit that for us to live comfortably, countless people (including fetuses) and animals are murdered, hence we are all sinners. "
Let him who is without sin cast the first stone"

Thing is- while many, if not most pregnancies are carried to term, there are some that can’t for various reasons. Example: baby has an anomaly like anencephaly. It’s cruel to mom and baby who will die painfully. Ergo, abortion should not be banned. All women and health circumstances should be treated as unique, without a broad brush.

@@mistahkurtz2351 Nobody is pretending meat doesn't come from slaughtered animals, yet most people don't think one should feel bad for killing animals. As for fetuses, not everybody considers a fetus to necessarily be a person. It may be genetically human, it may be living in some sense, but it's not a person. I think that was the first argument he presented, Mary's.

Hi Prof. Castleberry...I will be defending my chapter 2 literature review for my PhD in Educational Leadership. I am using Kant's moral theory for my research: Unintended pregnancies amongst U.S. Born Latinas and the factors that influence the decision-making process. I am citing all of the scholars that you are discussing and would love your input/opinion/critique...
Please let me know! Thank you 😊

Mary Anne Warren’s argument is very similar to the argument for slavery

You werent paying attention to the lecture. The characteristics is what determines personhood. Sentience, feeling, rational thinking. A slave has ALL of the characteristics of being a person and fetus has NONE of these

@@crisdeanmackenzie Even while you are sleeping you are currently still a rational being. You have all the necessary "ingredients" for cognitive power. The fetus before the 24 weeks has no brain, no spinal cord, no hypothalamus cortex (which is needed in order to be self aware) Its about as valuable as my toe nail.

Thompson’s 3rd point, humans derive numerous health benefits from sex, beyond pleasure & procreation. Laws shouldn’t deny half of our population the ability to pursue a healthy life.

Even if a woman is raped the baby has a right to live. it's unfortunate she got raped. there is a lot more land and resources if certain people were being so greedy and destroying certain natural resources.

    • @UnchainedEruption
      @UnchainedEruption 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Consider though the woman's right to her life. A "right to life" doesn't just include being physically not dead, but a right to self-autonomy, to be in charge of major decisions drastically affecting your life. When someone becomes a parent, their life is permanently, irrevocably altered. If pregnancy is thrust upon a woman against her will, i.e. she was raped, she never made any choice to have sex, let alone bear children, yet her life will now be completely changed as a result. Should she be forced to give up her life--her dreams, her goals, her career, her own pursuits of happiness to raise this bastard child? If it is the "future potential" that gives a fetus its right to not be killed, then does the woman not also have a similar future potential that is killed when she is forced to go through with the gestation of a child of rape?

You believe that stealing from other people is wrong but you still push your moral belief that stealing is wrong upon other people. Why? Why would you do that?
I thought you don't force your personal beliefs upon others?
You believe that raping people is wrong, but why do you force this moral belief on others? Isn't it MY choice if I want to rape? Take your morals away from me.
You believe drinking and driving is harmful yet you push your moral belief on our society. Why do you do this? I thought you didn't believe in forcing people to adhere to your morality?
You believe corporate taxes are unfair and you advocate this topic endlessly. Why? Why are you trying to force your beliefs upon others?
You believe the income tax bracket is unfair and you try to push this belief on society. Why do you do this? I thought you hated people who push their beliefs on others. Why do you do this?
You believe men who pretend to be women and women who pretend to be men should be factually verified as whatever they say they are and you insist society accepts their word. Why do you force the rest of us to believe such ridiculousness?
You believe that killing human beings is wrong however you'll make excuses to kill undesirable humans if you see fit (perhaps black people or jews or right wingers or unborn humans or religious fanatics or Osama or whoever) as long as it is in line with your current political outlook, killing is ok to you. yet you push your disgusting moral beliefs on others based on false pretenses. Why?
You belive in a million stupid things and you try to push ALL your stupid beliefs on society, why do you do this? I thought you believed it was WRONG to shove personal morals upon other people?
You have your own morals, your morals are twisted and stupid but still morals and you shove them on everyone.
You're an idiot if you think you are the only one who tries to force their morals upon other people.
Now shut up about "morals," shut up about everything. You're an idiot.
