Corvette C6.R Revving & Engine Sound

This is a promo C6.R that the GM folks put on display at Lime Rock Park, July 24, 2010, for the Northeast Grand Prix. It's identical to the #3 car that would be on the track in just a couple hours. One of the staffers got in and fired up the engine for us. Man, that sound is unbelievable! Best engine sound in the ALMS, bar none!

@AngryPistons The body and frame are based on the ZR-1, yes. The engine, as installed by Pratt & Miller, is not the 6.2L LS9, but instead a normally aspirated 5.5L block sourced from Katech that produces around 450 horsepower to meet the ALMS and ACO rules.

@AngryPistons C5.R actually used a 427 (7.0L) engine, which produced more horsepower because it was in the GT1 class, instead of the current GT2. The main reason the engine sounds so mean is because it's unmuffled. If you take your standard Corvette (which necessarily has a larger engine than the C6.R), and ran straight-through exhaust (not road legal) or put on the least restrictive Borla system, you'd get something that is pretty close. I'm sure there's vids on here of Borlas, check them.

@troutman747 thanks for the info... in other words its like a C5-R engine? ... sounds like a beast, wander if i could get a street vette to sound this badass....

@troutman747 yea i've heard them... a mate of mine is pretty clued up on racing engines and he told me that i'd have to put different cams, higher compression ratio... and yea straight pipes which are not road legal.... i suppose the flywheel would also have to be lightened to get the revs faster :) I have an e46 m3, I'm a bmw fan... but had a recent 'taste' of the zr1, and there's nothing elegant about it,, but I love how crude and brutal it is :):)
