I am looking for the model of this one, myself. It was used in St Louis MO when I was a kid. I still have PTSD from waking up alone in my parents house to that sound, and running for cover just as the windows blew in. It was unpleasant.

At the time, I lived between several sirens, so the distant warbling wail was cycling chaotically, from all directions.
It's quite effective at scaring one shitless. When I got my own place, one of my requirements was that it have a basement.
I'm in eastern MO, I spent about 8 hours down in my basement during the tornado spam last week. Fortunately, I only lost a few trees and a window this time.

While driving late at night
Just like our weather sirens in the US. So unsettling when the sky is turning black and the air pressure is changing and you can hear that siren while the hairs stand up all over your body…but all else is quiet outside. Freaky.
Canadian here- a couple years ago, I think summer 2018 or 2017, we had a bunch of thunderstorms for a few weeks mid July-early August. These thunderstorms were accompanied by tornado warnings. That damn alarm would blast on the tv and from our phones multiple times a day and night for about 2 weeks iirc, and me, being 11-12 at the time, was scared shitless, meaning that I ended up sleeping with my parents in their bed on the second floor of the house with our dog cuddled up nest to us, our phones in the other room, and just hoping it wouldn’t god off on the tv. That was fucking scary for littler me, we didn’t really live in a place known for natural disasters beside flooding and fires, and me being an anxious little ball of fear and depression was terrified of any and all weather phenomena beyond a light rain shower. Still hate it when it rains too hard, living in England…

The USA EAS alarm may not sound scary now, but it sure as hell scared the ever living couch potato out of 11 year old me when I was sleeping and my brother’s phone went off 5 FREAKING TIMES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT
Yeah, and when you know that youre in tornado alley and you hear it go off. Its usually amber alerts for me since we like to say we're under the dome, due to lots of close calls. But one time it got WAY too close for comfort, like it set off an alarm on my phone and literally i just thought "wow, this is it." So yeah. I gotcha.
It depends on what point it goes off. It’s not very scary on its own but like something like a child abduction alert at night or a tornado warning in a big storm then it is.

New Zealand's sounds like mario. I live in Canada, and the amount of times I'm watching T.V. for it to randomly pop up with the alarm, screen turning red with text like something extremely bad scares me, only for it to be something that wouldn't affect me too much.

The U.S. EAS is actually really scary in my opinion. Not in a "this is frightening" way but in a "holy fuck I'm going to die" existential kinda way. It's chilling to me. Even when it's just a warning, I feel as if I'm going to get blown to shreds by an asteroid or something.
It hits different at night. It's such a harsh and random noise. It's difficult to explain why it makes my skin crawl

1:08 as someone who wears hearing aids, i can confirm this is very similar to what they play in hearing tests
As a Canadian, I need to complain a bit.
1. It's almost always in the middle of the night
2. They send out two in 2-7 minute intervals. You'd think it's one french on English, but NO, it's two with both languages just switch which ones in front.
3. They send out WAYYY too many test alarms like honestly, they send out an alert every once in a while just to say
This is a test, there is no danger to your health
