  • In medical school clinical rotations, the key to having time to study for your shelf exams AND excel in your evaluations is to BE EFFICIENT. And the best way to be efficient is to have an effective task list. Task lists are a LIFESAVER particularly in your internal medicine clinical rotation. Don't depend on your memory and let things fall through the cracks - stay organized! Watch this video to learn how.

    ABOUT ME:
I'm Monica, an Internal Medicine attending at University of California, Los Angeles. I'm here to provide high-yield videos for medical students and residents. My favorite topics include how to succeed on clinical rotations, clinical skills, and some good old pathophysiology! I'm also obsessed with my cats and hardcore fitness, but I think there are enough cat and fitness videos out there...

Hi Monica, which comes first - daily labs or reviewing orders? (Ie are you reviewing orders to help you determine what labs to get, or are you ordering labs and later in the day reviewing your orders to see if they need adjustment after labs come back... Or both?)

It doesn't really matter - neither take very long. Reviewing orders just means going through all the patient's orders to make sure all the orders are in correctly and things haven't fallen off. Sometimes medication orders expire, for example. And oftentimes your daily labs are already ordered as standing orders so you don't have to reorder them every day. But I still keep it on my task list so that I remember to think about them. If a patient doesn't need a daily CBC anymore, I can discontinue it. Hope that helps!
