They way Rush chewed up the scenery in this movie reminds me of Raul Julia's role as Bison in Street Fighter. Both these men are masterful actors that took a campy role and turned it into something awesome.
Geoffrey Rush is the modern Vincent Price - a splendid actor, and it doesn't matter how goofy the role or movie is, he will pull it off with style and aplomb. I think he has more fun acting than we do watching.
I have to admit, it occurred to me mainly because he played Price's role in the remake of "House on Haunted Hill" - but I _do_ think it's a justified comparison. Although (as much as it pains me to say it) I think Mr. Rush is overall the better actor of the two.
I have to agree. He's a reknown actor and high-end resource. More so for a picture like this. He actually took it very seriously and accepted the goofiness of the whole premise. I mean...you had the Spleen literally fart in his face and destroy the interior of his stretch corvette limo. lol
I love Geoffrey Rush as an actor and I think this may of been the first film I saw him in (it's been a few years). I have followed his career ever since and he never disappoints. No matter the character he gives of his brilliance and talent each and every time.
I love the eye roll that Rush as Casanova does when asked what the plural of nemesis is. It’s subtle, but it shows how many times Captain Amazing has to ask him due to not remembering it.
Unlikely. It looks like it's more annoyance that Amazing doesn't fully grasp the English language despite it being his first language whereas English is more than likely Frankenstein's second language since he's portrayed as a German.
"Interesting choice. I knew you couldn't change." "I knew you'd know that." "Oh I know that. AND I knew you'd know I'd know you knew." "But I didn't. I only knew that you'd know that I knew. Did you know that?" ".....of course."

every line of dialogue and performances in this scene is comedic genius. Had Mystery Men come out today during all the marvel/dc bullshit, it would be HUGE! I still think it's a classic ahead of its time. Kinka Usher make a MM2 (even if the cast hated each other and he's never made a film since)
Not only an underrated movie, but ahead of its time. I wonder how much harder this superhero parody would have hit now that we’re in the era of umpteen Spider-Man reboots, Marvel Everythingers, and the Zack Snyder DC Brood-i-verse
"It's a chloroform deploying portable enticement snare.." Sounds like something Doc Heller would invent....tricked out with a clamshell holster, of course.
Captain Amazing was captured by a Chloroform powder substance, but the description says he was captured from consuming a drugged beverage. Someone didn't watch the entire clip.
Gotta wonder. It's implied these two have been going back and forth for a long long time. Kinda makes you wonder if by some contrived way Cpt. Amazing would have escaped and saved the day like always if the main characters hadn't interfered. It's been a long time since I've seen the whole movie so maybe I forget but it's never said that THIS time is supposed to be any different then any of the other times.
It's different insofar as Lance got Casanova out onto the streets to create a sort of controlled chaos that would keep people watching (and keep the sponsors happy), and when Casanova actually gets the better of him, he's clearly surprised at every stage in between the chloroform going off and the Mystery Men showing up. That said, given what he *is* good for (if not a heroic person about), what you suggest wouldn't be surprising. *That* said, during the rescue, they were just faithfully following his instructions until he lost his patience -- possibly to the point of making things up to sound like he was still knew what was going on. (" _...Seven!_ ") Maybe could have beaten him this time too... didn't work well with others.
Amazing: “What is this? Something dangerous I should avoid, for sure.” Casanova: “No, no, no, you should definitely screw around with it.” Amazing: “Okay. Smells funny though.” Also Amazing: “Aww dang!”😊
It’s a little bit funny that Casonova would turn off her weapons just because Captain Amazing said so because villains don’t usually do what the hero says. Then again she knew that last gadget would knock him out.
"Aw Dang!"
Most memorable line for me to this date. One of my all time favorite movies.
srsly! that line and his face hitting the floor with his lips blubbering is engraved in my mind-squirrel forever
I know remember that part too.

It wouldn't have been huge, just like Amazon Prime's "The Tick" wasn't huge. Even gentle satire scares and confuses people.
So glad they got someone as good as Geoffrey Rush for that part.

Totally non-lethal, but totally effective.
lol
A decade later and I still love this damn movie
Jeez where did Captain Amazing learn to be a superhero?
Private school, most likely. They can get away with stuff most American schools can't. Or it could have been the more logical option:
A wizard did it.
Jackson Rushing
*laughs.
Probably wrong.
Maybe his mom taught him, and then he forgot (or ignored) everything she said when he saw there was money to be made.
Amazing doubted his powers... and that only powers his doubts!
The only other actor who could play Homelander
In a nutshell
1:37 Casanova drops an inconvenient truth.
Casanova Frankenstein is such a badass name!
Best of all He is a very very deadly and dangerous.
Early stage of Geoffrey Rush's rise to villainy in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
I love that part when said aw dang I remember that scene watching that when Captian Amazing falls down childhood memory I remember watching on Demand.
Captain Amazing is like a less sadistic Homelander, the sponsor logos crack me up.
Geoffrey Rush, Hank Azaria, Ben Stiller. Why was i never told of this movie in Sweden?!
Probably because you were in Sweden
best scene... captain amazing is hilarious
Captain Amazing was captured by a Chloroform powder substance, but the description says he was captured from consuming a drugged beverage. Someone didn't watch the entire clip.

2:11 it was at this moment that captain amazing knew he f*cked up.
Indeed.
I saved a link to this starting at two minutes nine so whenever I'm foiled while talking to people online, I can just send that to them.
"A fine, elegant, Harvey Wallbanger..."
I don't think there's anything fine (or, elegant) about being Mr. Wallbanger 😏
Reminds me of how arrogant the Illuminati were in Doctor Strange MoM
If this had been made in the ‘80s I could totally see Vincent Price in this role.
Funny cause Geoffrey Rush actually did an homage to Vincent Price in the House on haunted hill remake
Not the homelander we deserve, the one we need right now.
This is not what I'd call a good movie, but I watch it anyway simply because I find Geoffrey Rush's performance so damn entertaining.
It's not a good movie, agreed - it's awesome!! Lot of really fun performances
Whatever this a good film . it's underrated an not very flashy it has it own vibe to it. But if you actually watch and pay attention its a cool film.
The writing is very clever, the movie is underrated
“I thought it was all about publicity & keeping your sponsors happy.” Casanova was the sanest person in the room, dropping truth bombs like that.
Amazing: “What is this? Something dangerous I should avoid, for sure.”
Casanova: “No, no, no, you should definitely screw around with it.”
Amazing: “Okay. Smells funny though.”
Also Amazing: “Aww dang!”😊
“I only knew that you’d know that I knew. Did you know that?”
For some reason, when he says "Harvey Wallbanger", I hear a gunshot in the distance.
Jackson Rushing I think that was the sound of the doors opening. Sorry for the delayed response.
Did you know that?
Great clip, thanks. :)
Happy 20th Anniversary !!!
Barbosa ya good role... and he brings a great dignity to his pay day roles. If you really want to see him act though go back and watch Shine.
I kind of defiantly remember this scene when I was use watch on T.V. demand all the time.
Before Homelander, we had Captain Amazing.
This is what happens if Booster Gold becomes the world's greatest hero instead of Superman xD
Imagine this is Cannon in The Boys
Nemisis - ees- is . . . we quote that a lot!
HOMELANDER
LOL, I can't believe he didn't suspect it was a trap.
Well as he said, he's very predictable.
Love the cinematography
Aw Dang!
I BELIEVED IN THIS MOVIE. I believed in the powers of the critics.
Homelander's real dad.
For reals
The greatest super hero in the world defeated by....chloroform.
And a very clever and dangerous enemy.
Anyone else hate the movieclips jingle?
yeah he caught him there hahaha best scene ever
"Captain Amazink..!"
Captain Amazing is like a poor man's version of Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man
how?
But Iron Man is already the poor man's version of Batman.
Nah he's the more innocent poster boy version of Homelander
Captain Amazing... did not doubt his powers... and... hm.
1:51 After realizing you actually like the Tesla CyberTruck design
it took him like 5 seconds later to react to it. ha.
Nigel from Finding Nemo and Ratchet from Robots having a conversation is not something I thought I’d see
What's the plural on that?
"Nemeses".
Man Greg Kinnear is cool
Captain Amazing's ego got the better of him. He had Casanova released so he wouldn't' lost his sponsors but his plan backfired.
"Captain A-may-sink..!!?"
It’s a little bit funny that Casonova would turn off her weapons just because Captain Amazing said so because villains don’t usually do what the hero says. Then again she knew that last gadget would knock him out.
Casanova Frankenstein is a man lol
She? LMFAO
lol, the ring on his toe
Captain amazing looks more like a NASCAR racing
So, Homelander before Homelander
Watching this later....realizing that is Caprin Barbosa XD
Captain Amazing is like a darker version of Mr Satan from Dragon Ball Z, he's a fraud of a hero who lack any of Mr Satan's Redeeming qualities.
Captain Amazing is a Street Fighter 5 character...
Before Homelander there was captain amazing!
haha i love him!
