    Really entertaining to watch, and an awesome owner! The forged steel crankshaft + stiffer valve springs in the engines of NC2s and NC3s allow those cars to have a higher redline than the earlier NC1s I believe. What I like about the NCs are that you can get another cheap Mazda 2.3 or 2.5 engine to fit in without clearance issues (unlike the NDs), so that you even more torque down low. The ITB package called the Super 225 that BBR recently announced sounds epic on their youtube channel too!

    Great video guys, very informative and great camerawork too. I use to not be a huge fan of NCs, but after seeing a video of ex-Koenigsegg test driver called Robert Serwanski in his NC overtaking a Porsche 997.2 GT3RS around the Nurburgring TWICE, whilst lapping it in 7:58 (BTG time), I have been converted. Admittedly, that Porsche driver probably wasn't as capable as the Miata driver was. Robert's NC still had a stock engine with an ECU remap. That action-packed video on youtube is called 'Nürburgring Nordschleife BTG 07:58.07 with obstacles... Mazda MX-5 Miata NC 2,0', and it now has 516,000+ views. DEFINITELY well worth a watch. I often don't care about laptimes, but Robert Serwanski's more recent videos showed me how capable and predictable the NC chassis are. Thanks to the owner for showing his NC2 in this SlipAngle video!

    • @jamescarson6681
      @jamescarson6681 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Love that video you're talking about, by 'turningperformance'. It was a constant 'cat-and-mouse' game where the Porsche made gaps on the straights, but the Mazda driver would always close those gaps in the corners, purely because he stays on throttle for much longer, and his throttle/brake/steering inputs were smoother. In the video description of his more recent Nurburgring video, he wrote the full specsheet of his car - 245.40 R17 tyres, removed passenger seat+AC and he seamwelded the rear subframe and seamwelded the door-openings too. Interesting that he chose to not have an LSD in his car too.

    I bought NC without knowing anything about Miata's , just couldn't fit in NA that I tested . Everybody gave me the boat speech at Roadster Cup untill it started winning back to back. Really interesting to hear your take on this as I drove a modified NC2 recently and was very surprised how much better it felt than the NDs I've spent more time in over the last few years (including a few ones with similar bolt-ons). I had the same thought on the wheelbase but there's less than an inch between NC and ND. The ND's also a touch wider than the NC so I don't think the NC is benefiting from extra track width. Have to imagine a lot of the difference in the way they feel is down to just that nicer steering.

    • @mannnygz

      as a complete car, yes, the NC is a way better vehicle, but stock for stock my NB felt way more raw and connected than my NC. I've spent a nice amount of time gokarting as a kid and the NC doesn't quite give the same vibes as the NB, but I would take the NC over it all day because of how much more complete it is.

    • @Soravia
      @Soravia 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      NC is BETTER than NB, but not as stiff and flexible vs S2000. Mainly due to S2000 having a "Xbone". NC has similar but doesn't go all the way to the front and rear sub frames. With under braces from Beat Rush or AutoExe, they will come close to S2000 but still not as good. Shows a lot when you put in equally strong springs.

    • @chrisrobbins4984

      @@karltaht2370 the roll bar doesn't hurt, but his was a Hard Dog and I don't know if it's braced or not. My Blackbird Fabworx RZ (works with the soft top) is SCCA-legal braced, and I'm getting ready to replace it with the heavier duty BBFW GT3 bar (no soft top) which has even more support..

      @chrisrobbins4984 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 2006-2008 motors weren't as good as the 2009+ motors which got forged internals and stiffer valve springs, and a higher red line because of it. I found a salvaged 2013 with a low-mileage (18k) motor, and it revs easily to 8k.

    • @Oldpuck81
      @Oldpuck81 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisrobbins4984 yep understand that. Hopefully the rev limiter will protect against breakage. I'm just not used to running an engine at that speed for extended periods. Actually Mazda went w/ forged crank & rods to reduce some hi speed noise they discovered in the 2.0 2nd gen and that allowed the motor to redline at higher revs. It wasn't done so much to allow it to be more of a race motor, but to be smoother when pushed. I think all the Ford duratecs are forged now. What I really wish for is a turbo system on my NC1 2.0 that will stay under redline and still give me 275-300hp safely.

Lime Rock also runs several day each year that are open to the public. I think we have a few members that pay dues and this is the only event they do all year 😂
