#Dargah

The #Dargah of Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar #Kaki is located in #Mehrauli area of #Delhi. He was the first disciple and the spiritual successor of #Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti as head of the Chishti order, Before him the Chishti order in India was confined to Ajmer and Nagaur. He played a major role in establishing the order securely in Delhi. He was born in 1173-died 1235 in #Osh in present day Kyrgyzstan. His childhood name was #Bakhtiyar. The word # “Qutubuddin” was added to his name, which means #axis of the world. #His grave is the first grave of any #Sufi in Delhi
He arrived in Delhi, #India during the period of #Emperor #Illtumish of the #slave dynasty. Many kings of Delhi had lots of faith in Khwaja Qutubuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki and they contributed a lot in the upkeep of the Dargah. Emperor #Iltutmish built a nearby stepwell, Gandhak ki Baoli, #Sher Shah Suri built a grand gateway. The main enclosure of the grave has been contributed by #Farukkshyar. Later #King Bahadur Shah Zafar added a number of things.
He spread the message of Love, Peace, Equality amongst people. People of all faiths come here to pay their respects to the saint and take his blessings. Many devotees visit the dargah on #Jumme Raat(The day preceeding Friday) i.e Thursdays. The Qwwals sing Qwwali’s in the premises of the Dargah. (Qwwali is a form of #sufi devotional music/singing). The #Urs of Khwaja Sahib is celebrated in a big way in the #Islamic month of #Rabi-al-Awwal. People from far off places come to visit the dargah during that time. (Qawwali is a form of Sufi Islamic Devotional singing). The famous monument, #Qutub Minar is dedicated to him.
