    The Turbografx 16 (and PC Engine) just got a fantastic video and AUDIO upgrade with the TurboNanza kit from Zaxour! One of the cool things this mod does is fix the Turbo EverDrive PRO mono audio limitation to get STEREO audio with Super CD Games!

    I’ve gotten back into crts recently and my main set (Sony KV-S42) maxes out at S-Video (which is still awesome looking). Unfortunately I sold my engine block for a spark plug since I always hated the way it fit… but the spark plug doesn’t support s video.
    This looks like a great solution, and I love that I’ll be able to put my back cover on.

    Just to note for anyone doing this mod; make sure all the wires from the main pcb to the daughter pcb.. are the SAME length! This is analog video, with sensitive phase between R,-Y, B-Y and those in relation to the "color burst" wire. Wire unequal length wire between then causes a slight delay, which causes a phase shift.. which affects the chroma (the colors you see). In this video here, there is no problem because you can see the 4 wires are all the same length

    What a great mod for the PC Engine / TurboGrafx16, it's like the Triple By Pass mod for the Genesis/Megadrive.
    It's great to have S-Vidéo implementation on mod, it's a great video output, a Super Composite without the complexity of SCART / RGB. The good balance between Price and Performance IMO.
    And the add for the stéréo output for CD game with the Turbo Everdrive Pro, it made a great alternative to the Out of Stock + DRM Super SD System 3 by Terraonion. Not that Terraonion are bad, they're great device but with poor consummer service, and the DRM update for a device for 99% of the use case is to play Rom and Iso DL on the internet is kind of ironic imo.
    Thank's Tito for the video 🤟.

    Man! If I opened a vintage console up and found what you did with the resistors just before the 8min mark, I'd close it up and give/sell it to someone who isn't a caveman like me. I wouldn't be able to match that level of meticulousness (to put it lightly) and it would be a real shame to do a hack job on some other part of the board. Beautiful work as always, both with the filming and the modding!

    This seems super easy to install, even for someone with only basic soldering skills. And it's no cut, as well. Also love that it leaves the expansion port open on the off chance you want to use a real CD-ROM attachment. I have to agree with you about the colors; that S-VIdeo looks perfect. Only shame is that this isn't compatible with the SuperGrafx. Well, at least not yet.

    • @zaxour
      @zaxour ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe it should be, but I can't confirm since I don't have a SuperGrafx to test myself. SuperGrafx uses the same audio/video IC's and has the same expansion port, so...

    Glad you could get it working. I’m not a big fan of buying peoples failed projects. Got burned twice on some decent size lots. Both times I was told no repairs had been done. I get the items and got to see some of the worst repair jobs I have ever seen. In one lot some of the Gameboys where taken apart prior to being ship to me. Even though on the pictures I could clearly see the ones open where 100% complete in the photos. Lost both cases when trying to get a refund even was called a scammer on one of them.

    • @MachoNachoProductions
      @MachoNachoProductions  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I bought it, it wasn’t advertised as modded or fixed. The pictures made the console look like it was in okay condition. Got a good deal on it so thought maybe I could fix it and luckily it worked out

    • @Mrx7tloma
      @Mrx7tloma ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MachoNachoProductions that is lucky. The first lot I got the person went through the trouble of putting each Gameboy in really mint condition original shells. Open each one up and the original dmg in that lot the motherboard looked like it sat in water for years and then was pulled out. The board was so corroded and swollen. When I reached out to that seller he told me that he never open them that he only works on sega consoles. Which I found hard to believe as his eBay listing had two modded Gameboys. I was able to get a refund on that lot and did return everything. I did fix one of the Gameboy pockets and did let the seller know that it was working. I just don’t like people being dishonest with listings. Any time I sell anything I go down a list of what I know is wrong with it and mention that I have not touched anything other then to inspect damage.

    Just watched the video. This has me interested. I currently use a TerraOnion SDD 3 and use RGB SCART to output. I've been having issues with the add-on even after firmware updates. Namely games freezing. Been thinking about getting the Turbo Everdrive Pro. This mod has me very intrigued. I use RGB SCART in my set up. Even though it's not specifically mentioned in your video, would a Saturn RGB SCART cable work with mod. I don't see why it wouldn't but wanted to hear your thoughts. BTW, great job on these videos... As a novice myself, your directions are clear and understandable. Thanks to your videos, I did the Picoboot mod on my GameCube and I'm just waiting for the HDD to show up... But about to do an 8tb HDD expansion on my PS2. Keep up the great work.

The only way back then was to either get the Turbobooster, CD, or plug into a VCR. Then of course if you wanted multiplayer you needed the Turbo Tap. So I gave it the finger and it sat in the closet until I warmed back up to it.

      Yes it does, and you can use the AV output of the CD attachment without issue.

    Be careful if you decide to use an original Saturn cable. With the newer DIN connector, the original cord might not work since the shape is slightly different and the port tends to be very tight to its metal jacket casing. I needed to uncrimp an original Sega Saturn s-video cord to fit in the mod since its shape is slightly off from the newer rounded DIN available these days. The original Saturn port has divots at the bottom-right and bottom-left.

      It didn't come out before them, they just went with the cheaper RF only option. It hit in 1987 in Japan, '89 I think in the US. It competed with the later era of NES, Sega Genesis, and SNES.

      NES was the first game console I'm aware of to have composite A/V (RCA type) output.
      CD-i was the first game system I know of to have an Svideo output port.
      With many others having RGB/SCART cables in Japan and UK) Sega Master System being the first that I can recall.

      @@videogameobsession The SNES actually has S-Video suppor tthrough its proprietary multi-port, but you have to get a special cable directly from Nintnedo to use it. The later revision mdel doesn't suppor this and it was pretty uncommon.

      Good question. I also wonder if there is a way to have the RGB look more like the Svideo output. It looks more like I am used to with my current TG16 expansion card. The RGB here looks far too dark and look off.

    • @AceTrainerX3
      @AceTrainerX3 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@videogameobsession Well, it's basically impossible due to how the RGB color table is generated by the PCE/TG-16's internal chips, versus the YUV table used by composite video, RF and the TurboNanza's s-video output. The main chips do output a straight-up component signal, which the TN does tap into for its s-video output; it's also the source of composite and RF on a stock console. There's currently no way to use it, and I don't think there are any other mods that let you use it directly atm. I would love to see it in action someday, putting it up against the stock RGB output for a true comparison of quality and color accuracy.

  • @The_Mister_E
    @The_Mister_E ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It's a shame it doesn't convert the RGB signal to composite colors, making everything look rather garish. At least the S-Video output looks just as fine through youtube compression, so it could be worse.

    • @zaxour
      @zaxour ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately, without some kind of expensive/complicated CPLD/FPGA, that's not really feasible to convert the RGB to the correct color. There is a lookup table involved, and as far as I know, it's not linear.

    Great video as always, I have a European turbografx but I can't get it to give me an image with the rear port and MD2 RGB or RCA and the Chinese everdrive. I don't know if it's not compatible, I read that some everdrives had a design problem, it's not that it's my favorite machine but I would like to leave it running, I love your fantastic mods. congratulations

    RF as the only output was absolutely unacceptable in the 80's. In the 70's I could kind of excuse it, because composite video was only on expensive TV's then. For a system released in the late 80's this was absolutely unacceptable. Nintendo also did this with the first version of the NES toploader in the US. In the early 90's! It was impossible to even use the thing without an internal mod.

    • @zaxour
      @zaxour ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the idea. Direct RGB is not the intended palette for the PCE/TG. There is a lookup table to convert from the RGB value to composite.

      @@zaxour Is there a way to make the RGB output look more like the RGB palette? Maybe a way to load various color palettes or adjust the default palette? I have a cheap imported RGB/Svideo/Composite/Component expansion card, and the component/RGB both have color palettes which are on par with the svideo colors, except even brighter and "cleaner" looking.
