You will get a chance to go snorkeling and swim with the original Florida mermaids, manatees. If you are looking for a family activity in the area you will find information on Weeki Wachee State Park and all it has to offer. Thanks for watching and if you have any questions please post them below.

You can fish in this river??? Most of those clear short rivers in Florida fishing isn’t allowed only floating. I wish I was closer I would catch those mullet.

The restrictions on fishing vary by the spring. At Weeki Wachee the only restriction on fishing that I know is at the main spring.

In Southeast Florida not many springs like the Weeki Wachee. You probably know this one but just in case for fishing the canal along 41 between Miami and Naples is good for both salt and fresh water fish. I have only done it in a kayak or from shore. Be aware of gators in this area especially near parks. People feed the gators at the roadside parks and they loose their fear of people and can become a nuisance chasing hooked fish. This is not one of my favorite spots to fish because of the gators and road noise. For a more secluded area where you can find a more relaxing setting try the northern area of Largo Sound north of the east side of Marvin D. Adams waterway. In this area you will find creeks that are relaxing to be in and fishing is not bad either. If you are interested in a fresh water experience try Fish Eating Creek www.fisheatingcreekoutpost.com/ . The campground is nice and they have a boat ramp onsite. The creek is very pretty and holds bass and pan fish and goes all the way to Lake Okeechobee (I have not done the whole route to Lake "O".) Call the Outpost to check on the water level because it can get shallow. If you don't want to bring your own boat they rent kayaks and canoes at the Outpost. If you find anything down that way that is interesting please let me know.

What license do you need to fish here? Freshwater or saltwater? Not keeping any freshwater fish. Coming from out of state.

In Florida the "Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC)" sets those rules and I would suggest that you call their North Central office that manages this area at 386-758-0525 for an answer. Rules vary by watershed and the FWC sets a boundary line like at a bridge or some other landmark to determine what type of license you need. If you fish outside of the Weeki Wachee river in the marsh area out to the Gulf you would only need a salt water license. I have both a fresh and salt water license so I don't have to deal with where the fresh/salt boarder line is on a body of water in Florida. Thanks for your question and I hope you have a fun trip.
