I'm looking forward to completing my collection of all of the Special Edition dvd's. I have many but there are many I still need. I tend to stay away from stories that are available in SE and I get them instead of the non-SE versions. I'm going to buy the hard to find-rare stories in PAL format and get a pc dvd-rom and set it to Region 2. They are generally less expensive than the R1 versions. I also sent a message to you on the back end of your channel. I hope you're able to respond.
Great Collection, I remember having a good few region one dvds back when I was in Canada about 11 years but had to sell them all as I moved to the uk in 2006. Lucky to have a full collection in region 2 now

I was able to fill in the gaps of my collection a couple of years ago. A man came into where I work (a used DVD store) and sold his entire Doctor Who collection to me for $60. He had a ton of classic DVDs as well as the new series season sets all in perfect condition. I sold the duplicates of what I already had and used the money to complete my collection. I feel very fortunate now that so much is out of print. And to think the reason he sold them to me in the first place was because on a previous visit to my store we both agreed that Jon Pertwee was our favorite doctor. He saw me as a kindred spirit. LOL

also, the Region 1 Remembrance of the Daleks normal edition cover looks so much better than the Region 2 version, I mean I prefer the Region 2 version because patriotism but still, R1 has art, R2 literally just has an imperial Dalek
I've been waiting for this for so long! I live in the U.K. So the DVDs aren't rare and I luckily have every single one. :) You should import region 2s of ones like the web planet if they are rare.

I did have The Web Planet Region 2 DVD in hopes of it being region 1, (as they didn't specify in the listing), but I gave it to Aaron from All Things Doctor Who as part of a surprise package! His channel is awesome by the way, and the video where he unboxes my surprise package (with other fun Dr Who stuff) is one of my all time favorites on his channel. I'm still hunting for the Region 1 copies of those two stories in the hopes I can snag them! How long did it take you to collect all the DVDs?

That's amazing, you've got almost all of the, I've only just started collecting a month ago, I've got the Beggining box set, Spearhead from Space (Blu ray), Doctor Who and the Silurians, Castrovalva, Earthshock, The Five Doctors, Warriors of the Deep and the Caves of Androzani. Series 1-7, Series 9 and the Specials. I've just got to ask how hard is it to collect the region 1 dvds for the classic series? I've heard they're quite rare.

I love the Beginning Box Set, and you've just completed your classic series Blu-ray collection with Spearhead from Space! Well done! Haha. Congrats on almost all of the New series as well, you've got some great stories in your collection! Right now it is very difficult to collect Doctor Who in Region 1. There are around 50 rare DVDs. I did a comparison recently and buying a region-free dvd player plus all of the first 3 doctors on DVD in region 2 would come out to around $750 versus $2,200 for Region 1. Right now it's very expensive to buy those out of print DVDs, unfortunately! It's finding them for under $50-200 that's hard. I'd suggest getting the German season-long box sets for the 6th and 7th doctor and then getting Region 2. Possibly have a smattering of the Region 1 DVDs that are still cheap. I'm amazed at how many DVDs in Region 2 are around $10. I consider it a steal when I get a region 1 DVD for $15! Haha. What are you looking forward to collecting next for your collection?
You'd be so lucky to get Web Planet on DVD. I can't find it at all. I only watched it through a library that is miles from my house. Also, where did you get your copy of The War Games? I really want it to complete my set. Plus it's expensive.
I got it through warner brothers wbshop.com, but I'm not sure if they sell Doctor Who dvds any more. I remember I paid $45 for it which at the time was quite high for what I'm willing to pay for a rare DVD, but right now I'd pay that in a heartbeat for Ghost Light or the Web Planet. Is The War Games the only DVD you need to complete your collection?
Unfortunately, it's not the only one I need. I'm just trying to find different avenues of getting it seeing as Troughton is my favorite Doctor. I almost have his whole era on DVD apart from The Ice Warriors and most of Season 6.
Nice! Troughton is a great Doctor, and I think because so many episodes are missing, the Troughton fans really do cherish every moment, which is awesome! Good luck finishing your Troughton collection and getting the War Games! Were you excited for the Power of the Daleks release?
NICE! I bet that must have been an awesome experience! I LOVED seeing The Pilot in theaters! It was so cool and so good even after watching it the night before. We also got to see Class episode 1 as part of the same showing, but seeing Power of the Daleks in theaters sounds insanely epic! Had you listened to it beforehand and was it in black and white or color?
These DVDs are the American/Canadian releases. They'll only play in DVDs sold in America and Canada. The ones with the grey design with the circles are DVDs released in mostly Europe and have the same contents, but different designs and are much cheaper. Those ones are much cheaper, whereas the American and Canadian releases have quite a few DVDs that aren't being released any more and rare now expensive. DVDs that will play in America and Canada are also called region 1, and DVDs that will play in Europe are called Region 2. It is possible to buy multi-region DVD players so you can watch any type of DVD. I hope that helps! Wikipedia says Region 2 is Europe (except Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan), Egypt, Middle East, Japan, South Africa, Greenland, and French Guiana.
Why don't you print the rare covers of and put in your a collection and even put Region DVD in them if you have a region multiplayer that's what I did with the missing episodes
That's not a bad idea! I'd definitely suggest it to someone who's got more rare DVDs to collect than I have, but I feel so close, I want to complete my Region 1 collection. Plus I have the VHS's so I can watch the stories whenever I want in the meantime. Also, if you know any good sites that have Region 1 missing episodes DVD covers, I'd love to look at those covers!
It's a pretty cool cover! Unfortunately, the side has a different type of episode title font than the rest of the DVDs, but the front is pretty awesome!

THe R1 dvd of remembrance of the daleks original edition has a very similar cover to my vhs of the same story, which is odd, because the r2 version of that dvd just has a single photo of one dalek (the early r2 dvd covers were dreadful, 3 releases with just a single poorly chosen grainy photo)
Oh yah! That is quite the similarity! That's so interesting! Those early region 2 dvds did not have a lot of artwork put into them, but I'm glad most of them have special editions now!
The only major difference I can see is that the image is zoomed out slightly and the outer daleks have been given strange sort of halos. The sky seems to have been retextured too, otherwise it's just the same image. But considering both the vhs and the dvd were released within about a year of each other, and the vhs cover was exclusive to the uk, the dvd to the usa, it makes sense for them to just use it twice.
That does make sense! I wish the person who designed the Aztecs Special Edition would team up with the person who design Terror of the Zygons (assuming those aren't the same person) and would remake the covers for all the other stories, I just love that artwork! :D
Aztecs SPecial Edition and Zygons were both designed by Lee Binding. He's responsible for all the new series book coveres and pretty much all the really nice covers from the later releases, including: Aztecs Special Edition, The Sensorites, The Reign of Terror, Planet of Giants, The Ark, The Tenth Planet, The Underwater Menace, The Moonbase, The Ice Warriors, Enemy of the World, The Web of Fear, The Krotons, Spearhead from Space Bluray, Ambassadors of Death, Inferno Special Edition, Claws of Axos Special Edition, The Dæmons, Day of the Daleks, The Mutants, Green Death Special Edition, Death to the Daleks, Ark in SPace Special Edition, Terror of the Zygons, Planet of Evil, The Face of Evil, The Sunmakers, Nightmare of Eden, Meglos, The Visitation Special Edition, Frontios, Vengeance on Varos Special Edition, Paradise Towers, The Greatest Show in the Galaxy, and the TV movie Bluray. That's just off the top of my head, there are one or two others he might have also done, but I'd have to check, most times I can tell at a glance if it's his work. He has also done an unoficial cover for the n on-existant target novelisation of Resurrection of the Daleks, which I personally think would have looked great as a DVD cover, I'd reccomend looking for the image, because it's equal in quality to some of his best ones. I'd love to see him go back and do new DVD covers for everything that he hasn't already done, possibly revisit the Planet of Evil cover, since that was a very early piece, and not quite up to his later standard. Sadly, I suspect that's not going to happen.
I love the region 1 Aztecs Special Edition, The Ark, The Moonbase, Tomb of the Cybermen, Enemy of the World, Terror of the Zygons, The Androids of Tara Special Edition, and The Visitation Special Edition. I think Terror of the Zygons is my abosulute favorite! Generally I prefer the region 1 artwork for two reasons. 1. I'm used to it. 2. I like how it fills the whole DVD. I do prefer the Region 2 DVDs for their colorful bindings! I'm not a big fan of the roundels, but I do love the bindings and the fact that you are given a choice of logos with the awesome reversible covers. Region 1 DVDs don't have reversible covers. Nice! You've got some great stories there! I love the Beginning Box Set, and The Enemy of the World has an awesome cover. I am really annoyed and saddened at the fact that there are rare Region 1 DVDs. Planet of Fire was expensive/rare at one point, and now it's only $18 so I'd snag that if I were you. I love the fact that the colorful designs wrap around the side and look great on the shelf. I also recently learned that there are reversible covers as well so that the logos can match! That's awesome! I love the full artwork on the region 1 DVDs, but I expect it comes down to what you are use to collecting!
I guess. The covers on the front for The Web of Fear, Enemy of the World and Power of the Daleks in Region 2, I think they might be slightly reminiscent of the Region 1 DVDs given that they all just have cover art with the title, and on these ones specifically, the titles are given their own special fonts and looks depending on the episode. I guess I feel that the Region 2 ones are just a lot brighter and have a little more color to them maybe? I'm not sure what it is. One thing for sure though, is that I prefer to have them separately packaged in their own boxes within box sets. For example, where the region 1 The beginning boxset is just one single box with the episodes inside it, where as we have separate ones in the region 2 version. Either way though, It's a nice collection. My own one is almost complete, along with all of the spin off shows. Maybe then I might start collecting the region 1 ones also.
That's awesome! It's a long-term dream of mine to collect Doctor Who in two regions! That'd be so awesome to know about someone else who did it as well! That's very interesting about the cover differences for TWOF, EOTW, and POTD. I don't like the Power of the Daleks cover for region 1. The title on the binding is a dark blue which doesn't show up against the black. That's a blessing in disguise because the font is strange as well and there isn't a troughton head on the top, instead it's a grey cartoon dalek profile. Sadly, no reversible cover, I checked. I totally get what you mean about the Region 2 DVDs having more color! I concur with that. I also do prefer separate DVDs, but I don't mind them being combined. I want to get the original box set release of The Beginning, and that has two DVDs. An Unearthly Child on one, and the Daleks/Edge of Destruction on another. I think. It's not perfect, but it's an improvement! Congrats on the almost complete collection and the spin-offs! That's awesome!

The Doctor Who Guide I have all the David Tennant Era box sets, season 5 (not a fan of Matt Smith's other seasons) and seasons 8-9 on Blu-ray. I've gotten a few Pertwee stories and 2 Davison stories. I also bought the Beneath the Surface box set and The Ambassadors of Death on ebay and am awaiting their arrival. Basically at the moment I'm trying to get all the Pertwee stories and then I'm gonna move on from there.
NICE! Pertwee is an amazing doctor with loads of incredible stories! I love The Three Doctors, The Green Death, Day of the Daleks, Death to the Daleks, and The Sea Devils! You'll definitely enjoy collecting his stories if you like his doctor! Do you know what doctor you'd start collecting after Pertwee?
Davison's a great doctor! I love cosplaying him as not many people go to conventions dressed up as him. He's got a lot of great villains in his stories!
I personally love the Region 1 covers, but that's partially because I grew up with them! I love the Blue DW logo on the DVDs! It's a great one! I wish, though, that the Region1 covers would wrap around the sides like the region 2 DVDs do, because that would look so colorful! :D

You'd be so lucky to get Web Planet on DVD. I can't find it at all. I only watched it through a library that is miles from my house. Also, where did you get your copy of The War Games? I really want it to complete my set. Plus it's expensive.
I got it through warner brothers wbshop.com, but I'm not sure if they sell Doctor Who dvds any more. I remember I paid $45 for it which at the time was quite high for what I'm willing to pay for a rare DVD, but right now I'd pay that in a heartbeat for Ghost Light or the Web Planet. Is The War Games the only DVD you need to complete your collection?
Unfortunately, it's not the only one I need. I'm just trying to find different avenues of getting it seeing as Troughton is my favorite Doctor. I almost have his whole era on DVD apart from The Ice Warriors and most of Season 6.
Nice! Troughton is a great Doctor, and I think because so many episodes are missing, the Troughton fans really do cherish every moment, which is awesome! Good luck finishing your Troughton collection and getting the War Games! Were you excited for the Power of the Daleks release?

NICE! I bet that must have been an awesome experience! I LOVED seeing The Pilot in theaters! It was so cool and so good even after watching it the night before. We also got to see Class episode 1 as part of the same showing, but seeing Power of the Daleks in theaters sounds insanely epic! Had you listened to it beforehand and was it in black and white or color?
What's the difference between the DVD's with these type of covers to the ones withe the grey and the circles design
These DVDs are the American/Canadian releases. They'll only play in DVDs sold in America and Canada. The ones with the grey design with the circles are DVDs released in mostly Europe and have the same contents, but different designs and are much cheaper. Those ones are much cheaper, whereas the American and Canadian releases have quite a few DVDs that aren't being released any more and rare now expensive. DVDs that will play in America and Canada are also called region 1, and DVDs that will play in Europe are called Region 2. It is possible to buy multi-region DVD players so you can watch any type of DVD. I hope that helps! Wikipedia says Region 2 is Europe (except Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan), Egypt, Middle East, Japan, South Africa, Greenland, and French Guiana.
Why don't you print the rare covers of and put in your a collection and even put Region DVD in them if you have a region multiplayer that's what I did with the missing episodes
That's not a bad idea! I'd definitely suggest it to someone who's got more rare DVDs to collect than I have, but I feel so close, I want to complete my Region 1 collection. Plus I have the VHS's so I can watch the stories whenever I want in the meantime. Also, if you know any good sites that have Region 1 missing episodes DVD covers, I'd love to look at those covers!

It's a pretty cool cover! Unfortunately, the side has a different type of episode title font than the rest of the DVDs, but the front is pretty awesome!

THe R1 dvd of remembrance of the daleks original edition has a very similar cover to my vhs of the same story, which is odd, because the r2 version of that dvd just has a single photo of one dalek (the early r2 dvd covers were dreadful, 3 releases with just a single poorly chosen grainy photo)
Oh yah! That is quite the similarity! That's so interesting! Those early region 2 dvds did not have a lot of artwork put into them, but I'm glad most of them have special editions now!
The only major difference I can see is that the image is zoomed out slightly and the outer daleks have been given strange sort of halos. The sky seems to have been retextured too, otherwise it's just the same image. But considering both the vhs and the dvd were released within about a year of each other, and the vhs cover was exclusive to the uk, the dvd to the usa, it makes sense for them to just use it twice.
That does make sense! I wish the person who designed the Aztecs Special Edition would team up with the person who design Terror of the Zygons (assuming those aren't the same person) and would remake the covers for all the other stories, I just love that artwork! :D
Aztecs SPecial Edition and Zygons were both designed by Lee Binding. He's responsible for all the new series book coveres and pretty much all the really nice covers from the later releases, including:

That's just off the top of my head, there are one or two others he might have also done, but I'd have to check, most times I can tell at a glance if it's his work. He has also done an unoficial cover for the n on-existant target novelisation of Resurrection of the Daleks, which I personally think would have looked great as a DVD cover, I'd reccomend looking for the image, because it's equal in quality to some of his best ones. I'd love to see him go back and do new DVD covers for everything that he hasn't already done, possibly revisit the Planet of Evil cover, since that was a very early piece, and not quite up to his later standard. Sadly, I suspect that's not going to happen.

What is your favourite dvd artwork? Region 1 or 2?
I love the region 1 Aztecs Special Edition, The Ark, The Moonbase, Tomb of the Cybermen, Enemy of the World, Terror of the Zygons, The Androids of Tara Special Edition, and The Visitation Special Edition. I think Terror of the Zygons is my abosulute favorite! Generally I prefer the region 1 artwork for two reasons. 1. I'm used to it. 2. I like how it fills the whole DVD. I do prefer the Region 2 DVDs for their colorful bindings! I'm not a big fan of the roundels, but I do love the bindings and the fact that you are given a choice of logos with the awesome reversible covers. Region 1 DVDs don't have reversible covers. I am really annoyed and saddened at the fact that there are rare Region 1 DVDs. Planet of Fire was expensive/rare at one point, and now it's only $18 so I'd snag that if I were you. I personally prefer the look of the Region 2 DVDs.
I love the fact that the colorful designs wrap around the side and look great on the shelf. I also recently learned that there are reversible covers as well so that the logos can match! That's awesome! I love the full artwork on the region 1 DVDs, but I expect it comes down to what you are use to collecting!
I guess. The covers on the front for The Web of Fear, Enemy of the World and Power of the Daleks in Region 2, I think they might be slightly reminiscent of the Region 1 DVDs given that they all just have cover art with the title, and on these ones specifically, the titles are given their own special fonts and looks depending on the episode. I guess I feel that the Region 2 ones are just a lot brighter and have a little more color to them maybe? I'm not sure what it is. One thing for sure though, is that I prefer to have them separately packaged in their own boxes within box sets. For example, where the region 1 The beginning boxset is just one single box with the episodes inside it, where as we have separate ones in the region 2 version. Either way though, It's a nice collection. My own one is almost complete, along with all of the spin off shows. Maybe then I might start collecting the region 1 ones also.
That's awesome! It's a long-term dream of mine to collect Doctor Who in two regions! That'd be so awesome to know about someone else who did it as well! That's very interesting about the cover differences for TWOF, EOTW, and POTD. I don't like the Power of the Daleks cover for region 1. The title on the binding is a dark blue which doesn't show up against the black. That's a blessing in disguise because the font is strange as well and there isn't a troughton head on the top, instead it's a grey cartoon dalek profile. Sadly, no reversible cover, I checked. I totally get what you mean about the Region 2 DVDs having more color! I concur with that. I also do prefer separate DVDs, but I don't mind them being combined. I want to get the original box set release of The Beginning, and that has two DVDs. An Unearthly Child on one, and the Daleks/Edge of Destruction on another. I think. It's not perfect, but it's an improvement! Congrats on the almost complete collection and the spin-offs! That's awesome!

The Doctor Who Guide I have all the David Tennant Era box sets, season 5 (not a fan of Matt Smith's other seasons) and seasons 8-9 on Blu-ray.
I've gotten a few Pertwee stories and 2 Davison stories. I also bought the Beneath the Surface box set and The Ambassadors of Death on ebay and am awaiting their arrival. Basically at the moment I'm trying to get all the Pertwee stories and then I'm gonna move on from there.
NICE! Pertwee is an amazing doctor with loads of incredible stories! I love The Three Doctors, The Green Death, Day of the Daleks, Death to the Daleks, and The Sea Devils! You'll definitely enjoy collecting his stories if you like his doctor! Do you know what doctor you'd start collecting after Pertwee?

Davison's a great doctor! I love cosplaying him as not many people go to conventions dressed up as him. He's got a lot of great villains in his stories!

I personally love the Region 1 covers, but that's partially because I grew up with them! I love the Blue DW logo on the DVDs! It's a great one! I wish, though, that the Region1 covers would wrap around the sides like the region 2 DVDs do, because that would look so colorful! :D
