    Ok video - your hand was hiding the most important part - when you actually inserted the RAM module. Too bad

      Oh, my bad. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll be more careful next time.

    Covering up what you were doing while inserting the memory is not helpful.

    Thank you for the informative video : ) , I have the exact same laptop. I was looking to upgrade the SSD component, any more information that you could share, which SSD and how to install.
    :)

    • @mithstechchannel4273
      @mithstechchannel4273  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The most important thing is making sure that the SSD you get has the correct form factor. If you have the exact same configuration as I do, then the the m.2 slot would be occupied and one SATA slot would be empty. So, you must decide if you want to REPLACE the m.2 SSD or ADD a SATA SSD. I'd probably recommend the latter. If your laptop came with a slightly different internal configuration, or once you've decided on exactly what you'd like to upgrade, I'd be glad to answer any other questions you have. Thanks for watching!

    I just ordered this laptop does yours have a heating issue that some people seem to be having?

    • @mithstechchannel4273
      @mithstechchannel4273  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I can confirm that this model does have heating issues. The single fan in the laptop has been fairly loud from day 1, and the laptop tends to overheat quite a bit. Sometimes it overheats with not-so-demanding tasks, but almost always overheats (at least slightly) when doing more demanding things such as gaming. I decided to keep the laptop because I got a fairly good deal on it, but if I had paid full price, I might have considered returning it. If the seller you bought it from has a good return policy, maybe try out the laptop for a little while and see if yours does any better and if you have significant problems with the noise/heat consider returning. Or, you might get lucky and get one that somehow has better heat management. Sorry to confirm your worries, but good luck.

    This cheap laptop’s building quality not bad, and it’s so good.

    • @sergeantraven794

      I wouldn't call this laptop "cheap". I've had cheap plastic "L"-brand, which I'd call "disposable" (G-500 series), which is only good to reconfigure and save it as an entertainment center, for as long as you won't have to open/close it: hinges are garbage.
      I've used many laptops in the past, from original IBM ThinkPad to then Lenovo's branded ones, then HPs, Asus (very good!), to Dell XPS high ends, and I will take Dell 24x7, regardless of the price tag. I feel Dell is by far more responsive to customer's feedback, and improving upon it.

    • @mithstechchannel4273
      @mithstechchannel4273  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sachinsprasad You're welcome! Unfortunately, if you have the exact same laptop model as me, 64gb of RAM might not be supported. I conversed with Dell's tech support before upgrading the RAM and they said that "the maximum memory for system is 16 GB". The setup and specifications manual also confirms this (topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/inspiron-14-5493-laptop_reference-guide_en-us.pdf). Now, if you have a different model, you could check if 64gb is supported although I've seen that many laptops only support a maximum of 32gb.

    Hi Mith, Im wondering how the laptop has been holding up. Has the laptop been working well with the added RAM? Thanks for the tutorial!

    • @mithstechchannel4273
      @mithstechchannel4273  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jack, the laptop has been performing pretty well. The added RAM has been very useful and multi-tasking is usually a breeze. My only complaint would probably be the battery life. It was never that high to begin with I guess, but now it's surprisingly low (I think a few hours tops). Thanks for watching!

    warranty voided by opening it to upgrade?

    • @mithstechchannel4273
      @mithstechchannel4273  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I asked Dell beforehand, and I believe they said it would not be voided as long as I used a compatible RAM stick and did not cause any accidental damage or something along those lines. If you have a warranty, I would encourage you to also ask before doing any such upgrade (and maybe saving the transcript of the chat afterwards, just in case).

    If on board ram crash than it leads to mother board replacement or not

    • @mithstechchannel4273
      @mithstechchannel4273  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think I'm completely qualified to answer this but, I think the odds of the motherboard getting damaged are not too high. If the laptop is under warranty, you may want to ask the customer service if adding RAM will void the warranty or not.

      If you have the exact same model as me, then unfortunately no. I talked to Dell customer support before upgrading the RAM and they confirmed that the maximum total RAM that is officially supported is 16 GB. If you have a different model, you can search up what the maximum manufacturer supported RAM is or check on www.crucial.com/

    hi i just checked crucial.com to scan my laptop, but it shows me that i have an inspiron 5490, but my laptop is an inspiron 14 -5000, is this correct or not?

    • @mithstechchannel4273
      @mithstechchannel4273  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is correct. I also have an Inspiron 14 5000, but my exact model is an inspiron 5493. Technically, the "full name" for yours would be Inspiron 14 5490. So, I'm guessing that our laptops are very similar, but some internals are different.
      Although Crucial's scan say the max memory could be 64 GB, personally, I would not risk going over 16 (unless you get the the green light from Dell support). Going over the manufacturer supported maximum can cause potential problems and void warranties.

    Hi whats the best cooling pad for this laptop you recomend?

    • @mithstechchannel4273
      @mithstechchannel4273  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, any cooling pad which can hold a 14 inch laptop can likely do the trick. However, keep in mind that the cooling vents of this laptop are on the bottom, at the part near the hinges. So, one of the cooling attachments which attach to the side of a laptop won't work.
      Currently, I am not using a typical cooling stand per se, but like two things which elevate the laptop slightly so cooling can improve (this one: bit.ly/3lojJZb). It is helping a little bit, but not as much as I had hoped. I am actually sending the laptop in to see if Dell can do anything about the overheating (and my BT is down too).
      I don't know a whole lot about cooling stands, but I'd recommend to go with one which has relatively decent reviews, and and costs a reasonable amount. If you want optimal cooling, lots of fans (like this one: bit.ly/32sMjQA) may also be preferable.
