I just saw this movie, Mid90s, yesterday. It was fu@*ing beautiful! I have never seen such an accurate depiction of skateboarders and skate culture in a film EVER. I cannot recommend it enough. SEE THIS FILM!
I’ve really started to fall in love with this dude during this press run. I admire his vulnerability and authenticity. Ive always liked skateboard culture but now I need to see this film
Jonah Hill is comin out with these interviews so honest & serious wtf what a cool dude, love hearing him elaborate about his dreams & making it all happen - it’s inspiring
I was born in 1981. Thus, I was 14 yrs old in 1995. I'm also from Portland Oregon. While not Southern California, it's still city life on the west coast. Skateboarding culture was fuckin huuuuuuuuge at that time. In fact, for those who remember, Burnside skate park was one included in the very first Tony Hawks Pro Skater on the PS1. This movie appears to be like every single picture I ever took or have seen that my friends took and kept. I love it, it looks fantastic.
Damn Jonah, you have me laughing and crying without even seeing the film yet. That's my generation and my group, or the group I so desperately clung to. No matter the age I was the outcast but had the handful of friends that meant world. Plus you are 100% right in saying music is everything: every bar had a meaning that broke my heart or pumped me up. I'm rambling and you won't read this but hopefully someone else will who can relate. Been a longtime fan, so proud and excited about this.
I'm not normally interested in movies about American kids skateboarding in the mid 90's. It just wouldn't hit my radar. But this guy makes me want to watch this one.
I got so much more from this interview by first watching the movie and then watching the interview. It just reaffirmed all the observation I made throughout the movie. Jonah Hill, you're a genius. Mid90s was such an uncomplicated yet complex film. Nothing felt overtly deliberate but at the same time it was well thought out. It was extremely relatable without reaching. Thank you for this glorious piece of art
Just seen the film, your kind of waiting on the edge of your seat for something bad to happen but it just sails along, absolutely quality. Up there with the film ’kids’ from the 90s.
I just have to say, Jonah Hill is just so real. He played the part he had to to make it in that industry, but he has shed that (literally) and really come into his own. Yes, we loved Tribe...and everyone wore Stussy in the 90's. There were so many cliques, I hope that has changed somewhat.
Born in 92 but I had a big brother who graduated in 02 ( you can do the math) and I obviously shared a room with him, bed bunks lol. I lived through the eyes of a teenager in the 90s due to living spaces. Fam was middle class so I got to touch everything he touched. All the hacks for food/games etc. I almost jizzed my pants when his friend brought 2 extra Nintendo 64 controllers, I was use to the Super Nintendo/Sega compatible systems. Due to my older bro, we got DreamCast instead of PS1,real teenagers from the 90s knew that was the system to get. I remember being amazed by AOL and GT1 demo on the PC, I saw the destruction as a kid who would play outside to being on a electrical device 24/7. Your generation fuck'd it up for the rest of us.
Great film!! I've watched it more than 10 times already! It seriously makes me feel so nostalgic!!! I remember how much of CRIME skateboarding was considered!! It's an absolute artistic tribute to our generation!!
That 'too cool to care' thing has really become insidious. It's gotten to the point that supporting the things you love in any way has become something to be sneered at. Funnily enough, it's these same guys who keep complaining that every show they love gets cancelled.
Just watching the trailer for that movie gives me that knot in my throat. I grew up like that i tried skating never was any good but i always stuck around skaters. It just brings me back to those really good times growing up in the 90s. Thanks Jonah for a good film. Cant wait to watch it.
when Kids came out I felt like I was watching me and my friends on the screen....But I was too young and too close to the whole thing to be able to assess it.....This looks more mature, I gotta see it!
I wasn't too interested in this movie when it was announced, even growing up in the 90s, I was just thinking it'll be like all the other skateboarding movies that have come out this century; however, Jonah HIll 100% sold me on this and I'm definitely going to watch it.
John Hughes was an almost perfect Historical documentary filmmaker, except that he wasn't. But those films he made in the 80's about the 80's were a perfect representation of that decade, except for the language, because they wanted more people to go see the movie!! 50 years from now, if people want to know what the 80's were like, except for the language, pop in a John Hughes movie!! It's so correct it's like a documentary! But he stopped and never did films like that for my decade, the 90's!!! Maybe Jonah Hill can be that guy?! He probably won't want to, but he could be, this time complete with the correct language and everything!! At least we got a year or 2 of the 90's encapsulated!!
I don't even have to watch this film to know that he is spot on! My brother and his friends were skaters...I grew up watching Peanut Brown, Tony Hawk, etc...skating videos bc he was soooo into it. Then when my oldest brother bought a video camera, forget it! They were making skate videos every day. Made a little half pipe in the yard. Also, in the 90's everything was "gay" or "retarded" or any other way that was seen to be belittling. What a stunted time we lived in. You really had to "not care" about anything, everything was lame.
I hope this is a modern day "Kids"... Not to say it's a rip off... I just think it'll probably capture a certain reality the way "Kids" did... Mad RESPECT for Jonah...
At what time is important. Ska and punk in the earlier days. Hip hop had not crossed into the white audience yet. In fact you could say ska opened the door for hh.
Any Fictitious Story is a Revision of reality. It's nothing like reality because you've Revised it for the story, the story becomes what's important, not what really happened.
An unfortunate reality of the actual mid-90's: being a skater was the perfect way to repel 99.8% of females, and it's possible I'm being generous with that percentage.
90s= Dazed And Confused, so you're right I doubt the 2020s wil feel like the early Y2k days, it's a real stretch, people need to move on, I was at a prime age for a kid during that era. 99-04 were my 1st grade-5th grade days and life was moving at an incredible pace with flip phones/PS2,/Ipods all entering the scene. Now we can do all of that through 1 phone or through a single game system. 2020s has a better chance to see a mass migration due to weather= famine or WW3 starting. Sorry to ruin your day lol but scientist from Harvard have already brought the cat out of the bag with weather manipulation, we live in a much more complicated world.
The movie was uninspiring. A 13 year old that starts using drugs and alcohol and eventually tells his mother to F off isn’t a great plot for a movie. Sorry. And kick flips all over the place isn’t skateboarding.
the story has no depth at all the kid is not at all relatable to who I was in the 90s this is about nothing the story sucks the music is minimal the audio is also not made great doesn't make u hype in any scene

Watch "Kids" is pretty good
I wasn't even a skateboarder and that movie took me back. Legendary film.
THIS is how you promote a movie right here
You feel that this was a life long dream come true.
Or he is an actor who bullshits well.
Maybe cause he said so?
I’ve really started to fall in love with this dude during this press run. I admire his vulnerability and authenticity. Ive always liked skateboard culture but now I need to see this film
This movie doesn't sound like my cup of tea, but Jonah Hill seems so incredably sweet and sincere that I feel like seeing it anyway now.

2-time Academy Award nominee.

Jonah Hill is slowly turning into Martin Scrocese
"Scro-cese" sounds like the nut-sack joke version...
Monette Moradi he did an snl skit where he was “martin porncese” did someone say vroom vroom?
If Scorsese made half baked semi autobiographical nostalgia porn
Escapism i think he was just using an example of professionalism, not saying he’s making movies at the quality of Scorsese
What?? He made one movie and you're already comparing him to Scorsese? That's a bit of an overstatement if I ever heard one.
I loved the Tribe analogy. I like the man Jonah's become. Can't wait to see the movie.
i cant wait to accidentally fall into a 16 year acting career
Somebody is a little jealoussss!
He took acting classes because he didn't know how to talk to actors when he was writing plays
"That kid from Superbad" is about to have an incredible career as a film director and I'm pretty excited to see what he's gonna do
