I used to listen to these guys when I was a young teen (late 70's and 80's). Loved their music and energy. Sad to know they are all gone. I think I was born at the wrong time.
All 3 now deceased ...Brent Dowe died some months after this interview in January 2006 (aged 59)...Tony Bevrett died in October 2013 (aged 64) and Trevor last died in 2018 (aged 77).

Stop telling the young man pure foolishness about the American music, mento music is around for hundreds of years before the American music fraternity. They are young to know certain things about Vere John, was one of the earliest pioneer of the Jamaican music. He also helped to built the American music fraternity, he went to New York City in the United States in 1924 before these guys was born, so they does not know what the hell they are talking about. Vere John was recruiting people in the United States to sing, he eventually returned to Jamaica in 1939 before they was born and, started to recruiting people to sing at 4 theaters. The Jamaican who recorded the very first song was Harry Belanfonte, he was born in New York City of Jamaican parents and. His mother took him to Jamaica to grow up and, he got in the music in the 1940s and started to recorded in the 1950s. His songs them was called folks songs back in those days, I useto the Vere John show on RJR radio 📻 station in the 1960s. He died in 1966 the same years Haile silassie came to Jamaica, I saw him. Any guys who don't know about Vere John show who recruited Bob Marley and the wailers, Alton Ellis, John Holt, Millie Small, Derrick Morgan just to mentioned a few of the singers them. I born come see my uncle playing into a mento band, if my uncle was alive he would be about 100 years old or more. I heard that Alton Ellis recorded his first song in 1954, he was called the king 👑 of rock steady and Desmond Decker was called king 👑 of ska and Bob Marley was called the king 👑 of reggae and. Bob Marley started to recorded in 1961 , with a cup of coffee ☕ was his first song ok.
