I believe you need to get all logs for s ranks but you only need to get them once not fight the enemies every time, I've found most missions can be done just by doing them fast enough the only acceptions i really found were attack the refueling base and attack the space port seemed pretty hard if you don't go for the extra LC's
Generally in AC games the ranks are determined primarily by time limit and total payout, the part about ammo/ap/bonus pay is all just arbitrarily rolled into total final payout rather than given individual cutoffs. This means individually those values can vary widely for an S rank, as long as they meet the total payout cutoff. I can’t say for certain that is how AC6 works, but it’s unlikely to have deviated. Typically time is a separate indepedent metric that you also have to meet. There’s normally no trade-offs between the two (payout/time). You simply have to meet both requisite values, but sometimes one is arbitrarily more strict than the other. Something to keep in mind about payout is you can earn bonus pay to offset mission costs.
You probably already know all this, but: if you want meele weapons to really work, check advanced stats for arms and thrusters, they both affect meele weapons a lot. Also, some meele weapons do more damage the heavier your mecha is. Lastly, the OS meele upgrade really seals the deal.

I think the ranking is calculated from your amount of money earning instead of the damage taken/ammunition use. This way it's calculate as a whole performance not the specific thing you did. That's why on the previous mission in your part 1 vid where you played near perfect but get an A rank is because you earned less money than the threshold it needed to get S rank. This part just confirms it where you S ranked when you almost died at the end.
This theory is supported by the fact that damage taken and ammo used, 2 of the factors the game states influence your mission ranking, are calculated and listed at the end of a mission, directly affecting pay. This theory is questioned by time, another factor mentioned in game to affect your mission ranking, not being mentioned at the end. This hints at there being other parameters than just the money earned, but the degree to which factor influences the rank is yet unknown. But you're probably mostly right, the factors are largely probably just money earned to speed ratio.
That's what I was thinking. Money earned ultimately accounts for optional objectives, enemies defeated, ammunition spent, and damage taken. S rank is probably something like "earn X amount of money while beating the mission under X amount of time" For example I accidentally got an S on the Attack the Dam Complex mission while replaying it to get the combat log I missed. I was only going moderately fast while being thorough in defeating enemies. And the combat log required me to go to the side and fight the Tetrapod MT and I fought the AC at the end. It makes me think that final money earned after expenses is the biggest factor and that the time aspect is actually a bit more lenient than Vaati thinks it is.
Why does it have to be built on variables that aren't made known to the player? Beat 086 after killing *every* enemy without checkpoints and earning over 500K in the process, still counted as A because apparently you have to beat the mission fast as well? I thought the ranking was an estimation of skill, not a convoluted checklist.
Only thing I have left to do is s rank and frankly the game doesn't deserve that time investment. Dunno why fromsoft thought I would end up caring about all those disembodied voices that I can barley hear when I'm listening out for beeps and boops . The pile bunker build was very similar to how I beat the Sea Spider my first time. Napalm bombs and pile bunker on left side, iridium on my right, and whatever missile pod would fit on my right back. Risky way to play this fight but it's really fun.
I am positive from my exprience and watching your progress that the S rank is counting repair cost, ammo cost, enemies defeated (if there is a bonus I think) and speed. I think it is an additive equation meaning you can lack in one area and make it up in another as long as the totals add together below a threshold. for ex I S ranked grid 086 and my repair cost was a little more than two times yours but my ammo was about half and I did it a bit quicker.
Time spent, damage taken, ammo spent, enemies killed (varies by mission), side objectives (almost never counts), checkpoints used, and times healed (resupply doesnt count). So far thats what ive found matters for S ranking chapter 1 through 4
I posted this in your first video but I'll post it here a well: I've S-ranked a ton of the missions and from what I've deduced: If the mission has some pay like 200k, you need to earn something like 90% of it, so 180k+. There's also some hidden time multiplier, but as long as you go relatively fast, you'll be on par for time. Killing things on the way will help offset the costs of damage or ammo spent, which gets you closer to that 90%. There have been plenty of missions I used all my repair kits on and still S-ranked, just because I killed tons of things and did it quickly.
@@coolbrotherf127 I'll try testing later to see if time factors into it at all. Like basically, I'll do exactly what I'd do to S-rank a mission, but I'll sit still for five minutes and then finish it.
@@coolbrotherf127 So I tested it out on the AC test pilot guy and yes, time still definitely factors into the equation. Probably an overall hidden multiplier that multiplies your overall earnings to determine your rank. I can beat him in like five seconds without getting hit, but when I waited 3 minutes before attacking, it gave me a D rank. So each mission probably has some kind timer threshold system like: platinum 1.25x, gold 1.0x, silver 0.8x and bronze 0.5x. So maybe for that mission I tested on, par time was like 2 min and since I was way over, it dropped the multiplier to something much lower. If you've ever played Destiny 2, you'd see a similar system in their nightfall strikes. If you don't make the par time, the multiplier starts to decay fairly rapidly.
@@MPRX87 In the alternative dam mission I ended with red health and still got S-rank so it seems that missions with enemy ACs are a lot more forgiving.
My understanding of the ranks is that they prioritize Checkpoints first, then time, then Profit, and only by not using checkpoints, and being fast can you try to get an S rank, and you get it by earning as much bonus as fast as you can, while not taking to much damage, or wasting ammo. The profits seem like a surprisingly good measure for your performance
I used dual shotguns against the Sea Spider on my S-rank attempt (first try at that!). The shotguns specifically are the Zimmerman, the longer ranged shotguns. And used the 8-vertical missile pod and had the pulse blade for quick melee damage when I got the thing stunned. To think that thing gave me trouble when I was trying to clear chapter 2 and get into chapter 3, and now I took it out with very little issue. Right now I'm using the Spring Chicken legs both for making my AC a bit beefier and to get a larger physical load
I used shotguns for my first run against him. I was really enjoying double shotguns on a speed demon AC, with reverse legs for big jumps. It was tricky but once you get the hang of it you can find the moments to Assault charge in for a double shotgun drop kick, Which does great stagger damage. sadly on a first fight you don't have access to the better shotguns, and the basic ones require you to be very close to not ricochet.

When spider dude lifts his legs in the air to strike down on you, both the flying version and the lean forward versions, you can just boost under him between his legs and he’ll miss you. And he kinda staggers a hair so you’ve got a little rocket window.
The spinning laser attack at 1:16:20 when you see him start just fly up into the air and if you pulse a little bit he’ll finish before you need to land
I really hate the fact that the game doesn't explain at all how it calculates your ranking. They should give you the detail of the different elements you're ranked on, give you a rating on each of those parameters and then calculate your total rank based on the average rank of those parameters, similarly to what DMC or Bayonetta does.
Heavy by pedal with dual Zimmerman’s, and dual diffuse cannons help me s rank almost every mission, the damage output of quad shotguns I think is the highest in the game. You just have to be hyper, aggressive and bear down with all four shotguns, and it will mow down most bosses.
I’m sorry for your pain but that b rank with the gatling gun makes me feel a lot better about my inability to get an s rank - I’ve been using that in my right hand for a while now haha
You can keep the acs up if you keep hitting it (especially against armored enemies), the only way to reset the acs is to use the pulse shield (aka balteus shield)
The Javelin Detonating Missile Launcher is actually pretty damn good, especially paired with Shotguns. They circle the enemy quite aggressively, leaving a trail that explodes for solid ACS damage, and the missile itself packs a decent punch if it lands (it almost always hits from a blind spot). Thus, they are great at distracting enemies with a bunch of explosions and unseen damage that's very hard to avoid if they're busy running from your shotguns. I think they can be useful against bosses, because big targets are likely to get hit by both the trail and missile, and against ACs, LCs and HCs, they're fantastic.
Watching this, I'm going to scream about 086. I dunno if they changed it in a patch. But I made more money, and beat it faster than Vaati in this, and only got A. Some combo of damage taken, vs ammo, vs kills screwed me over. The only thing I have negative views on in this game, is how unexplained the S-Rank criteria is weighted in each mission, and a lack of end-screen completion time.
Thanks for uploading these, It’s so good to see you uploading gameplay videos again as I don’t get to see your streams (different timezones). Also this game looks so good! I might be a mecha simp 👀
Thanks vaati, played ac super long ago and was hyped for the game. Seeing my fave souls content creator playing AC makes me so happy, thanks for sharing man
It's been stated across a few comments, I think, but taking the Supply Depot does not count against your S-Rank in any way. You can look at the Supply Depot the way you look at the Repair Kits - the game deducts you for incurring Repair Cost, the damage you take. Whether you heal that damage with a Repair Kit, heal for free via Supply Depot, or just suddenly trigger your inner ace and never get hit again, the damage gets taken out of your paycheck regardless. In that same vein, the amount of ammo you used is what's being deducted from your paycheck, and by extension your S-Rank. Resupplying via the depot only hurts you in this regard if you use it as an excuse to go ham with burning ammunition. You are punished strictly for what you use/waste, not what you are provided.
My idea is that ‘S’ rank requires a certain amount of money. So subtracting ammo and repairs takes it below that threshold. So killing some small enemies in missions that give extra cash helps get the total higher.
S ranking in this game doesn't seem like it was in previous titles where costs mattered a lot. It seems like speed is the main factor, after having S ranked everything myself. For most missions, you can go in and take a massive beating, as long as you clear things quickly enough. Cost for repair and ammo only matters if you're going really extreme and dumping everything, but if you have time to dump all your ammo and take a ton of damage then you're probably not going through the mission quickly enough anyway so they all go hand in hand regardless.
The sweet sixteen is really good dual wield, it almost instantly staggers ac and bosses trust but it only has one shot before reload don’t underestimate. I run dual sixteens and needle guns. Also the damage from the shotguns when staggered is monstrous
In the older AC games, ranking was almost always based on payout. There's a percentage threshold for each rank and as long as you didnt take much damage or use too much ammo, you'd get an S. I would assume you got an S on the Spider because the payout is so high, so your margin of error is larger as well. Not sure about completion time, it used to not be a factor but it could be now
Mouse and keyboard is underrated in AC6. If you have at least two extra mouse buttons to link to your shoulders, then your left hand can just focus on movement. No need for hard lock, very nice for agile up close builds.
On gatlings/S rank I think you can s rank with them, but not if they're your primary weapon, and certainly not if you aren't killing enemies. The game only weights enemies against you when it gives money. Efficiency seems to be what % of your total pay gets eaten by costs, so killing enemies "efficiently" is important. Blades/mabye energy weapons are obviously crazy at this, but for expensive weapons like gatlings you probably need to bother to kill even more enemies to offset their cost (ideally WITHOUT using the gatlings). In short, yeah just rolling dual gats and BRRRRRRRRing down the levels isn't going to S rank for you, but I do think the right build with the right idea can still use them. Also you kept forgetting to use your assault armor. Might have helped with some of the extra damage needed. Oh and i suspect the sherpa/repair kits don't matter. Again I think it's just 1. Did you use checkpoints. 2. What % of your total profit was eaten by costs (damage + ammo)
Sherpas indeed do not matter Gatlings are dangerous for s rank, on this level i used 1 and only used it when it was efficient to do so. Not a single bullet can be wasted.
i will "spoil" you a little... In order to get S rank in every mision... You need to finish and replay the new game +. Not only cause some of the last missions have some desitions, in new game + and ++ you are actually going to get new missions (and some of them are HARD)
It definitely feels like missions with a bonus for enemies killed depend on payout for rank, where other missions depend more on speed and damage taken. Im still not certain tho
Slower energy generation might be due to higher energy load from the chainguns, lowering supply efficency / leftover energy. Might have to switch to combustion, switch loadout or pick a more efficient chest piece.
I finished Chapter 2 today and I gotta say I was really disappointed with the length after how long Chapter 1 was. I definitely expected each chapter to be around 10 missions or so in length.
I waited until I beat chapter 2 to watch this (I'm taking it slow, playing a few games right now). But I'm liking this game so much I plan on going back and trying some of the other games in the series.
Jeez, I can’t believe how precisely you have to do these missions to get S. I feel like my cleanest runs get me B or A, and now I see why. Looks like Platinizing (thank you autocorrect for teaching me a new word) this game will be more difficult than like, BL4 runs.
try out the quad shotgun setup. dual zimmerman and dual back mounted laser shotguns. i was able to two shot rummy firing all the weapons at the same time
I was expecting some light missions in Chapter 2...man, was I mistaken lol. I drank a celebratory beer when I beat Balteus....and I needed a shot after I beat chapter 2
yeah shotguns first in line to get nerfed. Also some small tips. Use the offensive core expansion (does like 2k impact damage) to break stance and save Ammo. Don't shoot verts when you're flying in the air in that boss, they were hitting the roof!
>sweeper For brain dead s rank, rush to it with double harpoon. Double shotties should work. But any high damage/ impact/ direct damage will work. I used the needle pistols. It also one shots rummy. Stagger, kick unload both shoulders, one shot.
For anyone looking to get the achievement for S ranking missions it only comes down to speed I have just finished my 100% of the game and can say losing health is no issue or healing does not effect rank. The only problem is how fast you can complete the missions.
Lots of people are saying final payout and completion time are the 2 factors. So if that's true, it would make sense that you could take damage and use ammo as long as you earn enough bonus pay to offset your repair and ammo cost.
That's definitely not the only factor. In the part 1 video, he basically speedran the "destroy transport helicopters" mission while taking no damage and he got an A. He got an S only after he took the time to kill a few MTs on the way.
the roof of the grid86 boss is so low, if you fire the missile while flying there's good chance that all the missile will end up hitting the roof or pipes on the roof, and there are some locations that the missile will get blocked
btw, for missions that says you will get bouns payment for enemy kill, it will affect your score, if the mission does not say it, it shoud not matter that much
Only half an hour in, so dunno if you realized this or not, and I could also be wrong, but it seems to me that your mission rank essentially solely depends on money earned, and speed. Because taking damage uses repair costs and shooting costs ammo. But taking out enemies gives you money. So you kinda have to be choosy on which enemies you face, based on how much it pays to take them out vs ammo cost..
@vaati I think s rank depends on money earned. For money earned you have 3 criteria: - ammo cost - repair cost - enemies destroyed What i am unsure of is the time component. Have to test that. But all my s ranks have reached certain amounts of money. Its more obvious if you replay a specific Mission.
@@jarrodmerriman1458 well as i said time could also be a factor. Also without context of the mission you played these numbers really mean nothing other than that their would be Something like time to have an impact. Also we clearly learned that you also must complete side events like battle logs ( i know i didnt specifically mention them) I played the wall mission multiple times for the money and never did i have a lower rank with more money earned.
@Corey91666 Sorry, I was too vague. It was infiltrate grid 086. I just earned 280,000 and received an S rank. I don't think earnings have anything to do with it - I think it's all speed.

Generator VP-20C
One build devastated all missions. Making specific builds for each mission is also great fun.
this is pretty much me too but i use dual plasmas in hand. spring chicken makes moving so easy
When spider dude lifts his legs in the air to strike down on you, both the flying version and the lean forward versions, you can just boost under him between his legs and he’ll miss you. And he kinda staggers a hair so you’ve got a little rocket window.
Yup, that's the best strategy to avoid its lunging attack.
This series is amazing, please keep going with the s ranks!
Interesting to me how he NEVER consider being faster until the VERY VERY end.
The spinning laser attack at 1:16:20 when you see him start just fly up into the air and if you pulse a little bit he’ll finish before you need to land
I have to wonder if using the cargo launcher as transportation is like how Souls games repeatedly use coffins as transportation.
Bruh by the time i finnished the first chapter vid that one came out , thank for the amazing gameplay .
I really hate the fact that the game doesn't explain at all how it calculates your ranking.
They should give you the detail of the different elements you're ranked on, give you a rating on each of those parameters and then calculate your total rank based on the average rank of those parameters, similarly to what DMC or Bayonetta does.
I learned the hard way that the sea spider is weak to kinetic damage and explosive damage doesn't do much to it. I was running all explosive
Turn captions on and look at the very start of the video
S ranking in this game doesn't seem like it was in previous titles where costs mattered a lot. It seems like speed is the main factor, after having S ranked everything myself. For most missions, you can go in and take a massive beating, as long as you clear things quickly enough. Cost for repair and ammo only matters if you're going really extreme and dumping everything, but if you have time to dump all your ammo and take a ton of damage then you're probably not going through the mission quickly enough anyway so they all go hand in hand regardless.
Wow that was such a joy when your kiddo came in. Completely stopped and took him in at that moment. Well played and earned my sub
It’s great job, really waiting for 3rd part of AC 6. thank you so much.
The miniguns are the enemy of S ranking missions
The sweet sixteen is really good dual wield, it almost instantly staggers ac and bosses trust but it only has one shot before reload don’t underestimate. I run dual sixteens and needle guns. Also the damage from the shotguns when staggered is monstrous
Ah, beautiful. I did Sea Spider with 4 missile launchers and tetrapod legs. Very fun. Def recommend.
In the older AC games, ranking was almost always based on payout. There's a percentage threshold for each rank and as long as you didnt take much damage or use too much ammo, you'd get an S.
I would assume you got an S on the Spider because the payout is so high, so your margin of error is larger as well. Not sure about completion time, it used to not be a factor but it could be now
Restarting because of the shame of being Rummy'd was great xD
Dual Gatling guns & pile bunker carried me through the arena and 2 playthroughs, strongly recommend giving them a shot 👍
I think it's fun how little you use the assault burst, trivialises mad rummy especially since 99% starts the fight going for melee
Killing optional strong enemies like tetrapods and ACs help a lot to get the S rank
Mouse and keyboard is underrated in AC6. If you have at least two extra mouse buttons to link to your shoulders, then your left hand can just focus on movement. No need for hard lock, very nice for agile up close builds.
I love how 7 months later I can know that the first boss takes more damage in the chimney, so him shooting the front is just comical to me
Can't wait to see how you handle the next chapters :)
“I’m tryna clear these out cause I don’t wanna get shot from behind again… WOW.”
When is the next video dropping? Great content, keep it up. Always appreciate watching someone who masters their craft and you are a AC pilot.
I'm knee-deep in the S-rank grind and Grid 086 is absolutely beating my ass. I feel your pain.
It's fun to see you tinkering and rebuilding like it's an older AC
On gatlings/S rank
I think you can s rank with them, but not if they're your primary weapon, and certainly not if you aren't killing enemies.
Sherpas indeed do not matter
Gatlings are dangerous for s rank, on this level i used 1 and only used it when it was efficient to do so. Not a single bullet can be wasted.
I love that Vaati diacovered speedy boy wheelchair legs, they are so much fun to use 😅
48:15 Come now Vaati - you know better than to sit where a giant enemy crab is going to land 😂
My first time learning Vaati has a kid and he’s SO ADORABLE 😭😭
For like half the bosses in the game im telling you, tetrapod gatling guns and grenade launchers destroy
If you can approach & willing to take damage
Shotgun is better than gat in term of price & stun build momentum
The arm guns vary depending on the boss but grenade launchers are absolutely amazing for chunking the stagger meter.
Abusing gatling guns/zimmermans and songbirds are easily the most boring way to play this game. They just completely trivialize the entire experience.
@@FishieUwU Wich is why its being recommended in an activity that is only avalible after already completing the mission (S-ranking them)
i will "spoil" you a little...
1:00 that launch pad reminds me so much of the launch of the EVA in Neon Genesis Evangelion
Chapter 3 and 4 are way longer. The campaign is also designed to be played multiple times. There are new missions and ending in NG+
Chapter 3 has like 15 missions
The game has around 50 missions. Individual chapter lengths don't matter all that much.
Those vert missiles hurt him soooooo much the cleaner mission haha
I waited until I beat chapter 2 to watch this (I'm taking it slow, playing a few games right now). But I'm liking this game so much I plan on going back and trying some of the other games in the series.
Gatling shooting 1 coam a mili second 😂
UUAAGH IM COAMMING💦
On some levels the speed, ammo, or damage taken are weighted differently. One level may have more emphasis on ammo expenditure vs damage taken.
Your flying gives me anxiety. I love it.
double laser rifles on the back + double plasma cannons on the arms. You melt bosses.
the bunker buster was the best melee weapon for the spider
Jeez, I can’t believe how precisely you have to do these missions to get S. I feel like my cleanest runs get me B or A, and now I see why.
Looks like Platinizing (thank you autocorrect for teaching me a new word) this game will be more difficult than like, BL4 runs.
Would love to see you uploading your very first blind run of this game, if it's reccorded that is.
2 things. I keep expecting Rummy to say "bro" or "my mom" and... my kid heard yours and came over to investigate
try out the quad shotgun setup. dual zimmerman and dual back mounted laser shotguns. i was able to two shot rummy firing all the weapons at the same time
I was expecting some light missions in Chapter 2...man, was I mistaken lol. I drank a celebratory beer when I beat Balteus....and I needed a shot after I beat chapter 2
Repair Kits used might be a factor when ranking these, also there seems to be a minimum amount of creadits earned per mission for S rank.
>squids
Ab to the middle, Assault Armor. Kills almost all of them, leaves like 2.
yeah shotguns first in line to get nerfed.
Also some small tips. Use the offensive core expansion (does like 2k impact damage) to break stance and save Ammo. Don't shoot verts when you're flying in the air in that boss, they were hitting the roof!
God dammit Vaati why are you so dam awesome….
Pls continue this series
Thank you for showing me the path of grid 86!
Your voice brings me souls nostalgia forever. You are awesome good sir!!!
Me:
S ranked Balteus and the Cleaner
Only A ranked tutorial boss.
Like, how is that possible? Working on it though, will get there.
>sweeper
For brain dead s rank, rush to it with double harpoon.
Hishe/How it Should Have Ended: "He has a son? He has a son!? Hey everyone he has a son!"
@vaati
I think s rank depends on money earned.
For money earned you have 3 criteria:
- ammo cost
- repair cost
- enemies destroyed
What i am unsure of is the time component. Have to test that. But all my s ranks have reached certain amounts of money.
Its more obvious if you replay a specific Mission.
I don't think so, earned 460,000 got an A rank then earned 316,000 and got an A rank.
@@jarrodmerriman1458 well as i said time could also be a factor.
Also without context of the mission you played these numbers really mean nothing other than that their would be Something like time to have an impact. Also we clearly learned that you also must complete side events like battle logs ( i know i didnt specifically mention them)
I played the wall mission multiple times for the money and never did i have a lower rank with more money earned.
@Corey91666 Sorry, I was too vague. It was infiltrate grid 086. I just earned 280,000 and received an S rank. I don't think earnings have anything to do with it - I think it's all speed.
Ok so all missile is the way to go to no hit run Ocean crossing put all your os points in upping the damage and pick a fast setup with high energy efficiency
If my dad had Vaati’s beautiful voice, I probably would have grown up a better person.
Love the wheelchair legs.
Your son is so cute
Your videos are so chill!
