There's a reason the likes of Zidane and Xavi rate him so highly. United knew what they had, England didn't. The English media and England managers were so wrapped up in the whole Gerrard/Lampard thing that they let a genuine maestro of football slip through their fingers.
Despite being from the Blue side of Manchester I couldn't agree with this more. Scholes should have been first name of them three on the sheet, then find one to play with him.
Facts!
@@imjustasking553this !!!
Agreed, he made so much happen on that pitch, never mind statistics, he knew how to open up the whole pitch in front of him, bring players into the game with a pass and take opponents out of the game with a pass. His use of space on the pitch is jaw dropping.
Those 2 weren't fit to tie his laces in my opinion
When Zidane was asked " What is it like being the greatest creative midfielder in the world?" He replied "I dont know. Ask paul Scholes "
No drama, no nonsense, pure class. What a legend.
Then there is Pogba and Sancho who think they own the world for achieving nothing
@@victorymurangiri5164 Pogba won a World Cup. He has literally reached the pinnacle of football. Sancho hasn't done anything. Pogba has had a successful career.
@@victorymurangiri5164pogba achieved nothing?? You must be smoking crack
Watched football since 1986 I'm now 46 and I've never seen a player hit a ball so sweetly. One of the best centre midfielders I've ever seen. He was every other great midfielders favourite player.
U mean u started watching and understanding football at the age of 4?
@dunhilljoseph You mean you tried to look smart with that comment not realizing your maths is terrible?
46-37 is not equal to 4, but equal to 9. You will get your maths cert in the post.@@dunhilljoseph5461
@@MAH-id3sx nice 1
@@dunhilljoseph5461 You're such a genius. Failed in logics and maths at the same time.
One of the best ever. He was like a great combination between Pirlo and Xabi Alonso!! No wonder he was a role model for Xavi, Iniesta and Toni Kross.
55 year old life long united fan. Scholes still is and probably always will be my favourite player by a country mile
God, I wish we had a Paul Scholes at United right now...what a player he was.
Should of signed Bellingham
He never wanted to join our club@@gypsyking1645
What a team United used to have!!!...
Me too, I wish we had a Paul Scholes at United right now. The reason why United won the title every year because of Paul Scholes. He tackles. his passes and his shots. What a legend.
Kobbie Mainoo got a lot of Scholes in him let him develop some and we'll see I see it in him but it's gotta be consistent
The only player who read the pitch like a chess board. His long ball passing was just sublime.
History will speak about Lampard's 250 goals or Gerrard's clutch worldies, but Paul Scholes played at a level English footballers could only dream of. Even his red cards were a thing of beauty honestly 😅 - a spurs fan.
A real maestro, a true and absolute genius! An extraordinary footballer who has always been known only and exclusively for what he did on the pitch, and not for his discreet behavior off it, who unfortunately nowadays has been very underrated in conversations that contemplate the greatest players of all time. Sacred monster, living legend!
Agree with every word, because he never put himself out there the way becks and co. Did everyone forgets just how good he was, but ask Zidane, figo, xavi, this man man was never meant to be born English, he is way to technical to be a English player even still in this day and age! Always remember reading an article about christiano Ronaldo at carrington trying to hit this telegraph pole with a ball and had about hundred attempts and scholesy came along one time put the ball down and just like the true maestro he his hit it and walked away without a word
@@mattyjay3920I can remember watching the build up to a match at the Sapporo dome in Japan. Players were warming up. Scholes and I think Nicky butt were standing in the center circle having a chat and looking up. Scholes got a ball, absolutely smashed it directly up in the air out of his hands. They both stood there for about six seconds staring upwards then looked at each other and shook their heads.
Obviously they'd wondered if you could hit the dome with a ball. How crisply he struck the ball with such power nearly hitting himself in the face to get it to fly directly up with no side spin. Unreal power and technique.
Wise player before he received the ball he as already know what to do...great scholes
This man 1000x better than bruno fernandes
In fairness, Darren Fletcher was better than Bruno.
Even Anderson was better than Bruno
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😊
The comparison is an insult, don't ask for who.
Completely different players.
Bruno plays every game, is never injured, and has created more chances this season than anybody else in the top 5 European leagues.
Have a bit of respect.
The pass, the vision, the power, the aggression everything is absolutely genius 👌🏾
He has the lot it's a shame he didn't play In Italy or Spain where they love him and would have been appreciated a little bit more. Can't remember an English midfielder past or present to come close Skill, vision, steel and pinpoint passing. Class act
Latin people seem to appreciate him more than the English(sans United fans).
Carrick was the only one who compares. Also happened to be his teammate. Lol

His passing was a joke 😩. His goals were just unforgettable. It’s too bad the kids today never watched this man live, I was just a boy during his prime, but good God. What a player.
He commanded so much respect from his opponents, and he wasn't a big poser like a lot of other footballers. Complete professional IMO.
Count myself lucky to be alive to see this man's career and what he had to offer. Pure. Utter. Class. He scores goals....
I truly believe he’s the best midfielder of all time
I truly believe he's the best English football player of all time
Nah zidan and maybe iniesta over him definitely zidane
@@adenmohamed7203Zidane wasn’t really a midfielder he was a ten. Zidane could do things scholes couldn’t do…scholes could do things Zidane couldn’t do.
Iniesta. Na. Close. But na. Better dribbler. That’s about it.
You must be delusional.am a big scholes fan but zidane and inesta are clear of him.scholes is in the bracket of xavi and pirlo.
He was too good with the ball. A Genius.
He was a world class player even on his bad day, a top maestro midfielder, one of the best british midfielder's to grace the football scene.
He was English, played for his national team
remember when he came back from his retirement and made sure united won the league?
so beautiful, his pings were so effortless, but so accurate, just looks majestic
I'd forgotten just how brilliant Scholes was, easily as good if not better than KDB, some of them passes where outstanding, genius really, absolutely fantastic player from a LFC fan!!!
Scholes was excellent.
But I wouldn't say he was better than KDB.
@@luisantonioduarteah-hoy9663he was
Paul schole is better than kdb
@@godwinaghoghozino2610 , disagree.
Scholes was a legend.. but KDB is even better than him.
A fine player. Showed class consistently.
I’ve watched United played since 95 and at first I thought he was so boring to watch. Until I started playing myself competitively later then I realized how little I know about the game because of how different I viewed Scholes later on. He’s the most consistent and efficient midfielder in my opinion. His situation awareness and game reading was total world class and his passing was so lethal to opponents. His technique wasn’t flashy but his touches, passing, and understanding of the game made him one of the best of all time.
Yeah same here. I started watching since 2005 and Supported Man Utd.
I never really enjoyed his style of play.. back then there was Stevie Gerard, Frank Lampard, Kaka, Fabregas, Iniesta, Xavi, Seedorf, Pirlo etc.
Man Utd had Him and Carrick. I wanted them to sign any of those players.
I even wished he retired because I wanted them to have flashy midfielders like Kaka & Iniesta. But when I understood more about the game and particularly more about the midfield, I knew they wouldn’t be able to replace him.
I watched him during important games and can confidently say he is the player you want the ball to be with all the time. He is like a safe lock. Running the game like he doesn’t know what pressure is.
To be honest Man Utd squad wasn’t that great compared to their rivals at that time. Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal had insane roosters. European rivals like Real, Barca, Milan, Inter, Juventus, Bayern were Legendary.
But because of Players like Roy Keane and Scholes they were able to keep up with those teams.
When Zidane, Xavi and Co said all those things about him.. they weren’t overexgerating it. They played against him, they know it. Man Utd midfield is nonexistent since he left..
Fuck I’m old. 😆
If he was Brazilian he would have higher praise! The best CM ive ever seen
never see gerrard or lampard doing any of this , I dont care how many goals they scored in the prem , scholes is a different universe compared
i have seen gerrard do some great stuff, but never consistent enough. scholesy did this almost every single match. incredible. lamps? please. decent midfielder thats about it.
You say moments that were unexpected, but this is Paul Scholes, we all came to expect it. One of the best midfielders of all time, easily
Painful watching this back and being quite certain that the premier league will never again be a place where such genius has the time and space to give us moments such as this ❤
He would be worth a billion quad now in today’s market ❤❤
His first touch was mental he controlled the whole game every time
Scholesy was incredible. Miss him.
Once the ball is at his feet and he sees runners he knows exactly the weight and flight to give the ball.
Best midfielder to grace the prem
The master of the long pass
The master of any pass.
This guy is really underrated! I love Beckham but Scholes was the true genius
Beckham was a better FK and long passer.
Scholes was better in every thing else.
@@luisantonioduarteah-hoy9663long passer? Debatable. They’re at least equals.
Corners and free kicks are another matter.
@@colinharris615 , yeah, you're probably right about long passing in terms of pure accuracy.
@@luisantonioduarteah-hoy9663yep Beckham passed into areas, Scholes seems to pass it exactly where it needed to bounce, or right on the end of someone's foot
top tier vision & execution, not to mention high footballing iq, he's got everything you want for a midfielder.. what a player..
THE best midfield player of the last 30 years. Incomparable.
Zidane and Iniesta played golf then.joker
@@Woze899 well, what a charming person you're not. Did you know that, when asked who he thought was the best midfield player, Zinedine Zidane named Paul Scholes? Always check your facts before mouthing off.
Some of my best memories of that era are Scholes’ pile driver volleys from just outside the box.
A legend, and often under-rated. The best ginger of all time!
They don't make them like Scholes anymore.
Absolute genius!
First time I have watched a condensed clip of Scholes, WOW!! I always watched and saw his ability, when you watch the highlights though…. World class.
Wow. I didnt realize Scoles was a baller.🔥🔥🔥
You didn't realise an 11 time premier league winner and 2 time Champions league winner was a baller?
@@williamredpath861 I see why he went under the radar. Giggs, Beckham and co got the fame & endorsements. Scholes was low key. A silent maestro. Nobody wanted a Scholes football top.
Scholes successfully tackling was what I wasn’t expecting!
I love that some of his good tackles were in this list of 'moments no one expected' 🤣
He made it look so effortless
If Scholes is playing in this modern era where pressing is the norm, he'd destroy that either through one pass or movement. His speed of thought and vision is just something else
Great point
Long pass Paul Scholes and David Beckham was master of it
Could watch scholes all day, beautiful football with the odd crunch tackle
What he did was immeasurable. He didn't so much as drive with the ball or get the same amount of goals or assists as the likes of Gerrard or Lampard which is why a lot people may forget how good he was, wrongfully I'd add, but what a true master of his craft he was.
Um, did you watch Scholes play at all?
He absolutely got a lot of goals and assists earlier in his career. Before he started playing deeper layer in his career (so from the late 2000s onward), he was easily the best goalscoring midfield player at the turn of the century.
@@brianduru3753 yes I'm aware of that, I meant in comparisons to the likes of Lampard with regards to the whole Gerrard, Lampard Scholes debate. Its easy to point to Lampards goals or Gerrards leadership as how Scholes played 'generally' wasn't as quantifiable and therefore goes a miss sometimes.
That's partly because whole united sqaud was class..it was whole team contributing..such was the talent. Probably that's why you may not find too many goals or assists for a single player. I mean CR7 had so many goals per match for Real Madrid but not for united as Rooney, Tevez were also there. Same with Giggs, Scholes..
Paul school is best ïn Manchester unite this time God bless hims longlife àn good health ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Paul Scholes was a great great great great player. One of a kind brilliant, magnificent scoring midfielder. 🇳🇱👏
I hope this is the beginning of an era of highlights with decent music that doesnt hurt your ears
Scholes is one of the best playmaker in the world football😊
Apart from his obvious talent, his real talent is the way he controls the tempo of the game like Xavi, Pirlo etc.
You mean Pirlo and Xavi were like Scholes, given he's older and is the influencing factor?
Superb talent, very humble man,as Roy keane would say no nonsense, Mr Scholes you were an absolute joy to watch, not only skill, his awareness was impeccable, his passing impeccable, his shots unstoppable, his tackles absolutely no quarter given, never shyed away from a battle, one of the best midfielders to ever put on a utd Jersey.
0:36 is an incredible pass. Top spin and curve. Owens first touch took it away from goal and Zanetti recovered to tackle him. The pass however was incredible.
His other incredible pass in a big game that was ruined by a bad touch was 2007 FA Cup was from his own half to Rooney in extra time. Pure Quarter Back pass. Awesome passer of the ball
He knows what he wants to do before he has the ball. The difference between good and great players. It's not just knowing what to do, it's executing it.
Can’t really title it ‘Moments no one expected’ when this is Paul Scholes you are talking about! The best ball playing Englishman there has ever been without doubt
Innit.
QUALITY no tippy tappy football.
One of the best midfield players to ever put on the England shirt.
Excellent video. Most scholes videos fail to capture the little moments of brilliant combination, passes and focus mostly on the long range passes/goals. Well done
Wow, thanks for compiling that it is the best video of Scholsey I have watched and I've watched a few. Absolute class. Thanks again.
We will never have someone like him in future by looking at the way football has been developing over the years, players are too scared to even think of the things he used to do with swagger let alone excute them, pretty sad what football has become.
For me personally he was a once in a lifetime unique player wish I was more grateful at the time how lucky I was to be growing up and watching him run the show every other week.
A lot of people need to watch this. I see lots of people saying he’s not a great one. All hail the Ginger Ninja
Probably the most under rated but world class player in recent history.
Incredible footballer
This is EXACTLY why I say Scholes> KDB. KDB usually tries to find the killer pass, meaning he can be neutralised via the offside trap or marking his teammates. Scholes on the other hand, if his teammates are marked, he'll bang one from 30 yards, if he is isolated, he can find the killer pass, if you try and press him, he'll either beat you with a drop of the shoulder, or one-two it past you, and this is also why teams like Arsenal and Chelsea setup their game plans to stop Paul Scholes....
Legendary! I was fortunate to be the same age as Scholes, Beckham, Giggs etc.. What a time to be a Utd fan!
One word: genius!
I hate how people try to downplay this man, just because of his reserved character. He let his talent do the talking.
It’s also because he was not selfish. He didn’t charge about like Gerard or only concern himself with shooting like Lampard. He conducted the orchestra and made the team flow with subtle brilliance and footballing intelligence. Those 2 just didn’t have the football brain to be anywhere near Scholes level.
The Ginger Prince! My favourite player
Most technical English player ever
pure genius
WOW the music hits hard 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 with this much skill
Top video 💕
Greatest passer of the ball in the history of football. Guy was a genius
Great to see somebody with sublime skill playing for Manchester Utd who was also from Manchester.
Unos de los mejores volante de 5 del la historia y del mundo paul school🇪🇨
He had it all, the vision to play a pass at any distance, his touch was inesta like, understood the game wonderfully, not to mention he scored some absolute beauties too!
A UTD Legend and a player we currently lack desperately.
Iniesta like but he was doing it for 10 years before iniesta came along
The fact he came out of retirement and won the league and for United not to win the league since he’s left, goes to show the pure class this man had. Absolute legend.
God I miss this man in our shirt!
He was a magnificent footballer, all the players knew it.
Like piggot he didn't say much.He let his craft do the talking just like Lester did.Live and breathe their sport. Both were genius.
This is the best football video on youtube
How did we go from having Scholesy to Mctominay😢
He truly a master controller in the midfield ! The best one to control the pacing on pitch ! there is no one come closer to his level in England
The man deserves his flowers....🎉 Nice 👍🏾 tribute
Beckham was awesome, but United players used to call Scholes Satnav cos his passes always arrived at the destination. Loved that chat
One word... GENIUS
The only player that I would want a statue of outside OT...........
Utd haven't anyone near this good today. In Scholes time, they had multiple players in his class who could change a game in an instant. They replaced him with Felani.
The best all round midfielder we’ve ever had, fact
Legend 😜😁👍
even when scholesy makes a good tackle, he makes sure the opponent feels it!
Master at work
Imagine actually thinking that Lampard or Gerrard are anywhere near this guy in terms of ability.
I actually thought he was a better passer than Beckham. But he was always my favorite pure striker. Add to it how quiet and tough he was despite being shorter and he was an absolute savage for Man U.
The man was a master ball placer ,millimetre precise........
Great excerpts here, I'd forgotten how prolific his goal scoring was and his tackling skill.
As a Welsh man he was the only Englishman I wanted to see win the world cup! Most Brits know that's high praise! Miss his class! Keane's passion! Giggses speed! Beckham's balls! Don't care how that sounds either boys!
If you grew up watching this team you know you experienced a golden generation for a club! I wish I cherished those days even more than I did!
BRILLIANT
Pure class
