  • On September 30, 1915 a vicious hurricane made its way through Southeastern Louisiana leaving almost 375 people dead and entire communities destroyed. One such town was the small farming community of Frenier, where a legend has since entered local lore with the claim that this particular’y gruesome storm was brought on by the curse of a local Voodoo priestess named Julia Brown.

I saw that on the Weather Channel. There are people who actually go looking for her. Claimed they were lured into the swamp by a shadowy figure and they heard deep laughter that they couldn't figure out where it was coming from. What I want to know is what did the town do that pissed her off in the first place??

My late grandmama name was Julia Low a - Kelson my grandma don't know where she come from but she was bought out to . St John. The Baptist Louisiana. In Louisiana when she was 8 years old and her parents name her Julia she was a dark fair-skinned black lady with blue 💙 I wish I would have took after her with that color eyes but I haven't I. Well anyway she told me stories about this place many times I went out. Crazy town seems like every time it used to rain on Fridays I asked her great-grandma; but she never answered me on that. Well thanks for sharing this video.

Hello I’ve done plenty of research on her but didn’t find anything about children and very little on her husband. Do you mind sharing where you got that information, thanks…great channel btw

Hi, thanks for listening! The only evidence we have been able to locate that mention her having children are on the 1900 census. Listed are: Matilda (13), Se[?] (daughter)(11), and William (9). They are not listed in the later 1910 census.

Wasn't there an epidemic around that time? Slightly odd they're in the census 10 years later.

This is the worst most disrespectful version of the real Julia Brown story.

Clearly you didn't stick around to hear the actual breakdown of the story and inherent stereotypes and racism involved in the tale.
