    Why did the chicken cross the road? Well, you first gotta understand that this chicken had a hard childhood. His father left when he had yet to hatch. His mother looked after him for a few years, but she was a druggie and didn’t do that great a job. Eventually she sold him into slavery in exchange for a hit. For a few years he worked as a slave laborer on a farm just north of the border. The man who owned the farm was about as cruel and sadistic as they get, but to all outward appearances he was the model of virtue and a pillar of the community, so nobody suspected that he had seventy slave chickens working for him. Eventually this chicken snapped and murdered the farm owner by pecking open his jugular vein. He left the farm. Shortly after the owner’s family found out who killed him and put up a one million dollar bounty, payable to whoever found, tortured and killed the chicken. Fearing for his life, the chicken headed up north. He fell in with the chicken mafia, and worked as a hitchicken and general muscle for a few years. He slowly earned enough money to rent a house and get established, although he had to keep his head down to avoid getting noticed. He met a nice hen, and they started dating. Now, the chicken was getting tired of killing other chickens for a living. He’d been attending classes part time, and had been told by his teachers that he was real smart. They even wanted to give him a scholarship to go to college overseas. That never worked out, however. The chicken’s girlfriend got pregnant, and he decided to stay in the country to care for the resulting chicks. He tried to quit the mafia. His bosses were not very pleased about his decision, and told him it would be a shame if anything bad happened to his family. The chicken bought a strong lock for his apartment, although he still constantly worried about his family. The chicken got a job in an office. It was mind-numbingly boring, but it paid the bills and didn’t involve killing anyone. Two years later the chicken got two strokes of bad luck. Firstly, the company was going through hard times and had decided to lay him off. Secondly, he had developed severe respiratory problems; the doctor said it had something to do with exposure to agricultural chemicals from his days as a slave. When he went home to tell his wife the bad news, he found she wasn’t there. She had taken the children and left to be with another chicken. Well, the chicken went out and got good and drunk that night. He was standing outside a bar, watching the cars streak across the nearby highway, when he thought that it would be good to die. He didn’t have much to live for, and his life insurance policy would help his kids more than he ever could now. His death had to look like an accident, though. The highway! That was it! He would get run over, and be “accidentally” killed. The chicken staggered out over the road, trying to position himself in front of the largest vehicle possible. They swerved around him, furiously honking their horns and yelling obscenities at him. The chicken staggered on, and before he realized it he’d crossed the road and had reached the other side. The chicken still wasn’t dead, however. He slumped to the ground, weeping bitter tears.

    One thing I really love about Key and Peele is that on their show they make fun of everybody without being sellouts. They never portray Black women as loud or ignorant or angry on their show and I appreciate that because the constant hatred you experience as a Black woman can be extremely overwhelming and depressing. Especially when you are not that way at all. My husband loves me, I'm awesome (yeah I said it lol). I do think the joke was in poor taste just considering the fact that he doesn't have a Black wife but I don't think he meant it maliciously. I think the way he portrays Black women on the show speaks more volumes than the little comment he made.

      Actually the skit itself is funny and generic as it could apply to anyone as no wife of any race would put up with being called a bitch.
      KEY however made it about race in the intro of the skit by specifically referencing Angry black wives ? Why was this necessary ? ,the joke would have worked just as well if he had said angry wife .Furthermore Key has a white mom, white stepmom, white SIL and a white wife so whats his frame of reference ?

    • @clearlyobvious6949
      @clearlyobvious6949 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yaoibabe you're the only black woman in these comments who wasn't offended by this. I'm glad to see that you can at least take a joke that wasn't even genuine. Because people SHOULD know he was just kidding. And if they don't, then they honestly can't take a joke.

    I'm a fan of Key and Peele. At the same time, I find it funny how Keegan-Michael Key can make a comment on "angry black wives" when his own wife and mother (two of the most important women in most men's lives) are white. Honestly, Robin Thicke and the late Roger Ebert are better qualified to make a comment on black women and wives LOL

    • @nonya6022
      @nonya6022 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Comedian Gary Owen makes jokes about black women and black wives all the time. He is a white man saying it but I'd never take offense to it because he is often talking about his actual wife. But for Key to say something like that, its like how the heck would you know? You've never been married to a black woman in your life. It's like hearsay in court. If you didn't witness it yourself, it has no credibility.

    Here is the thing to those of you saying it is just comedy and Black Women should just lighten up. Most comedians usually make jokes based on their personal experience. This man from what I have heard was raised by a White Woman and he is married to a White Woman she looks older than him too. The joke would be funny if he was saying it from personal experience, but he has no frame of reference to draw from, therefore all he is doing is perpetuating a negative stereotype, that seems to haunt Black Women like myself. My Black Mother and Father have been married for decades and my mom treats my father just like a woman should. He is not complaining. I am sick of hearing especially from Black Men how ____________ (insert negative comment) Black Women are. Enough already.

    • @93BlazinFire
      @93BlazinFire 9 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      +4daluvofnikki It's a joke. There's a joke out there for every race, every gender and every combination of those two. I was gonna start to give some examples, but i'm sure you've heard them. I'm not saying you don't have a right to be offended by a joke made in bad taste, but it's not gonna stop, you're fighting a losing battle.

    • @keeperkai999
      @keeperkai999 9 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      +4daluvofnikki Why would he need to marry a black women to be able to tell jokes? It's a joke, lighten up. He could have dated dozens of black women before he got married, ever thought about that? Not that I'm saying black women are all like what he portrays in his sketches, it's comedy, it's supposed to make people laugh and it did. Just look at all the other ridiculous stuff in their sketches. If everyone of any group they used in their comedy would whine like this, then there would be no comedy left.
      In fact, you whining about this might just make people think that black women are all like that, which makes the stereotype even worse. So you really do need to lighten up.

      Isn't that sexist? I'm not joking.
      See, that's a double standard. You're telling people that they are RACIST but your using a phrase that makes it clear that you're sexist. It's not about "Is it a negative thing or not". It's trying to label actions with something that does not matter with the issue.
      People would be offended by what you just said there.

    Although I think Keegn is very funny and talented, making this comment about Black Wives in general is very derogatory and sets up a continuous negative perception of black women. When you take the time and effort to study African American history before 1865, it is clear that the Black woman was not only raped by her masters but was not allowed to marry the father of her children. In addition, her children were often sold to the highest bidder. This history should not be forgotten, nor abused.

    Says the man who is married to an old white lady and was adopted by a white lady lol. Sorry Key, but you don't get to make those cliche black wife jokes if you're not married to one. I would never make a degrading racist remark about black men because I'm not married to one! :)

    • @vickieoglesby536
      @vickieoglesby536 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is simply an abbreviation of why not.. I do know correct English.. However the cause of our women is how we are seen by others and how we are seen in the media

    • @maeburekaiser
      @maeburekaiser 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      vickie oglesby So your sentence, if read using your abbreviation, would be "Why not you say something good about black women?"
      Is that accurate? If so it is hardly an improvement.
      I think how you present yourself to others, including how you communicate, is an important part of changing the perceptions of others and the media.

    • @maeburekaiser
      @maeburekaiser 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Karissa Becknel I haven't shot up any schools. I was referring specifically to something she did. Your response is akin to saying "black women screaming at people on the subway doesn't help the cause of black females."
      It is entirely irrelevant to you or her. I have no reason to believe that either of you have ever done that, so bringing it up is pointless. That is unless you want to just start making lists of shitty things that people do. But then we would be here forever.

    Funny guy but I think he should stay away from jokes knocking black wives when you've never had one or a black mother who was a black wife for you to draw on from experience. I hate being the person who over-analyzes a flippen joke but yea, I wasn't feeling it 9 years later after learning he's been married twice, neither a black woman and the fact that he wasn't raised by a black woman which is fine but colors the joke differently for me when learning those facts. Again very funny dude.
