Do what you want, I am a parent to six I let them do what they want and express themselves in their own ways. I was held back by my parents and I hated them for it. I vowed never ever to do it to my children. Infact we moved to Japan so they can express their own emotions and feelings. If my kids make a mistake all I would say is what would you do next time differently and then they learn from that experience and move on.
