I'm impressed at how many consider this eloquent, educated man the best of a bad lot. You're lucky then, the bad lots of other countries cannot hold a candle to Michael D. Higgins.
Micheal D higgins was the best out of the lot was impressed with his vison and with his thinking really believed in what he said he was the ideal statesman and he use to teach my cousin hes a nice man hes a credit to himself and to his family
Yankee admirer here: While I disagree with many of the Christian influenced laws in Ireland, Higgins give me hope that Ireland will move forward and be even more awesome than it is already.

Easy to say if you're not living here. There will be alot more cuts in the budget this year - the easy cuts were made last year. People are not just being negative because of a bad attitude, they are suffering and fed up. 70,000 people are behind on their mortgages in Ireland by 3 months or more. The unemployment rate is 14.4%. People are stressed and worried. Don't be so glib in your judgement.

As someone who was born and lives in Northern Ireland, it's tough to relate to the Irish government when I can't understand the first minute of the President's speech.
best of a bad lot indeed at least hes taking a pay cut and stopped the payment of his pensions while hes working, mind u how someone can even be allowed to collect their pension when there still working is beyond me nearly as far beyond as how someone is allowed collect 4 pensions for working in different areas in government id love to hear him justify being paid more than 1 nevermind 4
