[Synopsis]
The road to becoming an empress is paved with treachery. Ruyi (Zhou Xun) is a consort who quickly learns to navigate the treacherous politics of the royal court and move up the ranks. Consort Ling Was seriously out of her mind! Did she ever stop to wonder why the Empress Dowager was protecting Ruyi's son ? Could it be because you had already killed 2 of her 3 children and you were trying to kill the 3rd.......... This lady is crazy no wonder why the emperor took a liking to her because neither one of them take responsibility for their actions, it's always someone else's fault.
They all blame Ruyi for their deeds. When they get caught its Ruyi fault.
After this the brat princess never apologies for her role in Ruyi's suffering.

Well she did it not because of redemption rather she did it because in her eyes no matter how much consort ling flattered her, in the end she is just low born concubine to her who could never take place the position of empress of qing dynasty and her official mother.
The Princess wanted her downfall anyway, she wanted to "avenge " her mother as no one could hold a candle to her mother in her eyes.

her son became emperor, but only because ruyi wanted her son to be free from the troubles of the emperor. i think if yongqi had become emperor.. the qing dynasty might have ended better

They're concubines of the previous emperor, or you can say, they're Hongli's step-mothers. Empress and concubines of the reigning emperor lived in 12 palaces. If emperor passed away, his empress (huanghou) became empress dowager (huangtaihou) and lived in Cinning Palace, and his concubines became elder/dowager concubine (taifei) and lived in Shoukang Palace.

I think because there are only 6 main palaces inside the imperial harem although there is in fact 12 palaces
i think because theres the east and west palaces, so 6x2=12
六宮 is not really mean 6 palaces
it's a general name for all concubine

in a way, the mongolian consort ( mongol princess) and hejing ( main child of empress and emperor) who married a mongol Prince, are now of the same standing. but before this hejing wouldve had a slightly higher position, as the child of the main wife.

Afraid of what? these lady’s are pampered and if their good deeds are seen they get favoured with even more time with the Emperor, get gifts and or gets moved up the latter. These lady’s have no problem compromising each other, even killing off child to keep others from being favored or to push their son up the latter. What do they all have to fear except getting caught? I know how blood pressure works and it’s very unusual to have a large group of people all with the same issue. I have seen a few stand up to fast so I understand that but majority of these women are kneeling but don’t get up their self, they are all helped standing up from their personal servant. I have even wondered if the Emperor and his doctor came up with a medication to keep the women calm but as should as their heart rate rises the medication would cause them to calm down or faint. I don’t know but it makes no sense to have a group of women, coming from all over the kingdom but all have the same health issue.
