  • Cisco UCS servers are one of the cheapest ones on Ebay consistently...but why? Lets go through what makes UCS servers unique, why they are cheap, and do a tour of their management interfaces.

To open the case use a flat bladed screw driver and start to pry it open to a point where you can get your fingers in there . That is the official method I learned in UCS boot camp. The instructor stated "often the hardest part of the job is opening and correctly closing the case cover".

Thanks for all your ucs videos. It helped push me into finally making a large upgrade in my home lab from 3 HP DL 380s, 1 DL580, and 2 DL360s (G7s) to a UCS 5108 with 6 B200 M3s and a C240. I've been really interested in UCS for a while, and its the only major blade infrastructure I have no experience with. I had not been aware that the UCS manager could manage more than just the 5108s and their content. Very excited. I look forward to more content on your channel.

The UCS standalone without the fabric interconnect is that loud? I mean, it's possible to be in the same room with one standalone UCS m3?
    Great video!

Hi, thanks for sharing such in-depth info.
I want to know if we want to change ip address of UCS server due physical movement of hardware so do we need to mandatorily login cisco ucs manager and going to its management tab. Also, how to know which UCS manager version our UCS support like I have UCS C240 M4 which is ofcourse EOLS. How to download and install UCS manager plugin compatible with my UCS.

It is practical. I currently have a UCS 5108 with two b250 full servers running 24/7 and all that crap about being loud and power consumption is false. I love having one blade server with 256gig of RAM and a 40tb of HD space in a RAID from a dell powervault 1200. I use ESXi to run tons of VMs and CSR1000v. I am a Network Engineer and the initial boot of the chaasis is loud until it boots and then drops to normal. It is sitting right in the next room and the loudness is not true from the B-Series perspective.

I am looking to buy Cisco UCS C460 M2 4x Octa server but i am not sure if its good for Virtualization.
My main aim is Cisco labs on GNS3 and Eve-eng. The price is crazy as compared to Dell and others, any suggestion will be very helpful

If I want to switch from CIMC mode to UCSM mode, how do I tell the server to look for a Fabric Interconnect? I've tried resetting to factory defaults in CIMC, but it just stays in CIMC mode.

      You’d need a VIC 1225 if it’s a UCS C220 M3 or UCS C240 M3

The power draw is high like I said, and it's noisy. Up to you if you're ok with that
