No shade just facts! You really have to love doing anything in the entertainment industry when you first start out.
I don't think her numbers are correct. The highest tax bracket is 37% (assuming she made more than $518k that year). It's also very rare to pay both an agent AND a manager. If we assume that she got the job through a manager, his/her cut would be 15% and then an entertainment attorney would be 5%. So... you would subtract $55,500 for taxes (max), $22,500 for the manager, and $7500 for the attorney. So that would actually leave her with $64,500. However, she would be able to write off a shitload of things. I've written in Hollywood before and I could write off a percentage of many expenses including rent and utilities. If her tax guy is even halfway decent, he should have cut her tax liability down by a third or maybe half of that $150k.
Uh, no. They tax base off of a certain amount, rich people are not just in one bracket. They have income tiers and each tier is taxed at a certain amount. How do you know that you don't have to pay a manager and agent??

Thanks for breaking it down Taraji cause I had no idea...you get so caught up with the visuals of the entertainment world (clothes, cars, jewelry, trips, houses, etc.) you have no idea how much money these actors have to pay out to the people behind the scenes. Sounds exactly similar to when TLC was explaining how they ended up bankrupt
Wow, I really appreciate the way she broke that down. Benjamin Button basically paid her son's tuition for that year, and she still had to figure out a way to pay all of her other bills. Respect.
Well, she would've had other money coming in for other projects she did that year. If not, then her tax liability would only have been 22%. There's no way she only had $30k left... taxes would max out at 37% and then a manager is 15% and an attorney is 5%. Plus, if her accountant is halfway decent, she would have written off a ton of expenses.

@@billybatson7852You are correct, she was in several projects during this time frame and I don't think her point was to decieve us into thinking this was her only income that year. @@SPChannel722I think there is a whole other side we are not talking about here. Up until that point before Benjamin Button what massive movie did was sue the Star in that made a lot of money? She really had tiny small parts in movies and the two movies she was known for at that time where more cultural movies with baby boy and hustle and flow. So being cast and paid what she was for a movie staring Brad Pitt was acting probably what her worth was at that time. She was a supporting character most likely third billing in the film. The movie cost 167M to make add another 70M to market and promote. As good as the movie was it only made 337M but you subtract the spending then you actually only made less the 90M. This is 2 years old? So she's been trying to tell people all this time and some are acting like she only started speaking up while promoting the Colour Purple.
Basically she made 60k off 5 months of work. If she gets another film at the same rate thats 120k a year. And in LA thats nothing. Being that school was 30k which leaves her with 90k a year in LA. that is HARD.

Taraji is so beautiful and inspirational and I love the fact that she is humble and she thought me something I didn’t no which was how the money works in Hollywood !!
This is a good breakdown--- Start with the fact that the movie has estimated gross of 335 million dollars... $150000 = movie contracted amount $75000 = Taxes $150000 * .30 = $45000
Remember she clearly said she used that 30K for your son's education. She had to scramble to grab a other check That's 6K a month for 5months. What if she doesn't do another movie that year? Then that's 30K for the year
oof see that's why you have to set up you company so when you start getting paid like that they write the checks to your company and you are taxed less.
Very much the same to what Monique has been saying for so long. She got a bad rep for saying it out loud but I think, it has enabled others to be heard when the time comes for negotiations.
WHY ARE WE SUPPORTING GOVERNMENT TAKING 50% OF YOUR PAY FROM THE WORK THAT YOU DO?! Like as an Accountant, I NEVER had a client say, please, how can I pay more federal taxes? Just crazy to me that we are brainwashed to thinking its okay to steal people money that they work for. Crazy! I would do taxes and have to break the news to a nurse expecting to get EITC because she works MORE and very hard, but government penalizes you for working hard...God forbid you work overtime, they hurt you even more. Drives me nuts while ppl try so hard to penalize the corporations, all it does is penalize the workers because those corporations can afford to hire Accountants, CPAs, tax attorneys etc, people making $65-300k, heck even those making $1M could not afford a month of payroll that these corps. can and they WILL always have laws that benefit them. And BOTH parties do it. When you work on the inside, you start to realize the team colors that the news show you are not quite so different at all. BOTH sides benefit at the expense of the taxpayers but will keep you divided so they can keep stealing 50% from you while they get lifetime benefits at your expense and a sweet salary that affords them multiple homes while you can barely pay rent. People need to realize, the more you make, the LESS you take home. If you make $300k, you are prob only taking home $150k and guess what, you still gotta pay those student loans which are almost as much as rent from that. Still gotta pay that $500 car pmt because you need to work and rent is about $1-3k EASILY. So like she says, the math aint mathing. THE ONLY PEOPLE not affected are those in the dare I say 9 FIGURE PLUS marks because they have the ability to park their money in "non tangible assets" and those are not taxed. These are the "untouchables", and trying to harm them will only burn you bc they will lobby for laws on both sides to keep themselves untouchable meanwhile they watch us divide amongst ourselves when honestly we are ALL besides those making under $65k being hurt by them. and those making under $65k, they make jump through rings of fire to barely get a $100 from section 8 towards their $1k rent. They want to know every aspect of your life to barely get benefits...you think wow I am getting $10k in EITC and child tax credits but its like yeah, you were also struggling off food stamps the other 11 months of the year. And when you want to do better for yourself so you can move up the ladder, what does the tax man do, take 22%, 37% and etc. So essentially they keep you on a hamster wheel. they gate keep you from ever making as much as them bc if you ever did then, why would you need them? If everyone simply paid 10% at the individual levels and keep corporate taxes at 21%, then that would mean someone working at Mcdonald's could technically work there for 3 years, become a manager and not have to suddenly owe 22% in individual taxes, they'd only pay 10% bc its kept the same...which means more money for them bc they are giving less to the greedy weasels in DC. Then you can decide how to use your money based on your family instead letting government keep your money interest free all year to send foreign aid to Ukraine. The people who don't pay federal income taxes get refunds bc of the EITC and essentially repay at the expense of others who pay federal income taxes...these refunds are also essentially the money you overpaid to the govt which essentially gives them a loan from YOU at 0%. Meanwhile, for example, does Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac give you a 0% home loan? No, house loans for the average buyer going to be 7%+. You could pay the house off much quicker for way less but they don't give you the same luxury that they trick you into doing for them, do they? So if people really want to let DC have it, tell both sides that y'all want a flat tax rate. Watch how much they'd push back at such an idea. they will say we need to tax corporations more but thats lip service bc they know most corporations wealth is tied up in assets that taxes cant touch those. but they will say this on the news to make you believe they are really sticking it to the man...lol

Wow…. Insane…. My girl deserves. Much more than that!!!!!
Wow, when they say don't judge a person until you walk a mile in their shoes, I wish her even more success in her career.
This is 2 years old? So she's been trying to tell people all this time and some are acting like she only started speaking up while promoting the Colour Purple.
Exactly!!
This the exact thing said to Gayle from the Color Purple press tour!
Basically she made 60k off 5 months of work. If she gets another film at the same rate thats 120k a year. And in LA thats nothing. Being that school was 30k which leaves her with 90k a year in LA. that is HARD.
Crazyyy
She looks TF GOOD.!! Love love love her 😍❤️
So if Tyler perry paid her 8 million, that means she only made like 3.5 million according everything she stated!!?
She get approximately 1.6M the 30% is off the 8M which is (2.4M). Uncle Sam takes 4M and her team takes 2.4M.
@@carolannc2336 ...Damn she left with the little end of the stick🤣💯
@@rodtherichest that’s why you have to have a good team to keep them checks coming and to make sure you’re getting paid properly
@@carolannc2336 sorry to sound dumb but who is uncle sam? 😃

TARAJI LOOKS GREAT-VERY YOUTHFUL GLOW! GO QUEEN! INFO ON THE PAY DEDUCTION IS INFORMATIVE...KEEP SHINING BABE!🌟
My mother and Taraji could be sister or even cousins I swear. Seeing her in baby boy I swore it was my mother and told all my friends my mom was on tv. She’s like my famous mom I never got to meet. Cause I’m stuck w my mom lol. Love her spirit 🌹
I did not know this thank you for breaking it down the pay
She kept it real!!
She looks so beautiful! I’m so glad she broke it down.
Not only that, they have to go to premiers, interviews, to promote the movie without pay.
Taraji is stunning! I don't know this gorgeous queen personally but what I've seen of her throughout the years is that she's a one in a million!
God bless her and her son's journey. 🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️❤️
Taraji is so beautiful and inspirational and I love the fact that she is humble and she thought me something I didn’t no which was how the money works in Hollywood !!
Love how transparent Taraji is and how she broke that game down. No matter what level, you still gotta hustle!! Much love and respect to the Queen!
This is a good breakdown---
Start with the fact that the movie has estimated gross of 335 million dollars...
$150000 = movie contracted amount
$75000 = Taxes
$150000 * .30 = $45000
6k a month? That's outrageous!!
I bet Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett made over a million each.
Remember she clearly said she used that 30K for your son's education. She had to scramble to grab a other check
That's 6K a month for 5months. What if she doesn't do another movie that year? Then that's 30K for the year
So who's taking home the big bucks? The exec producers, directors and the other big bosses? It's highway robbery frfr.
or more than that being supposedly A-list actors.@@joanna0988
Yes. In the darkest hour. You have to be the light in the darkness.
Definitely!!
I lover her outfit. She looks like a Barbie
I love how articulate and transparant Taraji is
And I love her acting too ofc!
I miss Cookie Lyon smacking hakeem 🤣
Of course she's articulate
taraji is glowing 😍♥️
Holy Hell! That math is crazy! $30,000 is what she made from that movie! WOW!!!
I haven't seen Taraji look this good in awhile...the hair looks great on her
She looks great with her narural hair has well.
I love me some Taraji she is just so real...💞
The new producers if the real understood the assignment. I am sooo enjoying this.
she's so gorgeous and glowing :) melanin poppin and velvety
She's gorgeous bruh👌😫❤️
The Real had a glow up ✨✨✨
She sounded just like Left Eye when she was talking about TLC.
Because that's how it always goes.
Left eye taught me the math back in 1999
omg she stunning, she still glowing since Baby boy!
Taraji needs to be on the show a lot more !!! Can she please be the fill in when our ladies are away on pto or something
oof see that's why you have to set up you company so when you start getting paid like that they write the checks to your company and you are taxed less.
I love Taraji.. its funny MO' Nique has been and is still saying the same thing yet people don't give her the same props
Very much the same to what Monique has been saying for so long. She got a bad rep for saying it out loud but I think, it has enabled others to be heard when the time comes for negotiations.
Give my girl her flowers now!! Looking good sis !!! 🌸🌸❤️💕 Break it down sis!!!!
Amazing! I just bought and read her memoir she’s an amazing actress and she deserves MORE✨
The appreciation I have for her breaking down those numbers is real! You have to be a phenomenally amazing woman to be comfortable enough in your skin to disclose this info!
I just know the ratings this year will be crazy! Ngl I didn't really watch when they were at home. I'm glad they are back in studio! The guest stars are really good this season.
I love how she was honest and transparent with this.
She looks beautiful 🥰 such an amazing woman ❤️
Probably one of the most significant conversations to ever happen on daytime television with a movie star
You Deserve Much More Then $150,000
That’s A Damn Insult
I love Taraji so much and she deserves way more with all her accomplishments. Seriously in 2021 , she can’t get paid ? It’s Taraji though !
She is beyond beautiful! And so inspiring!! I hope she continues to get more projects, because she is super talented and has the kindest of hearts!! She is very real!! ❤️❤️
Side note.. baby the skin is shining okayyyy 🤩🤩
I love her and Loni with the matching hair.
She is Amazing and Brilliantly Smart and Aware of the Business Partnership she’s in
👏🏼Reminds me of when Lisa Left Eye broke down the math 🧮
Wow..she broke it down, love this lady, what a great actress..😍
I love transparent people. Taraji and Remy Ma are both comfortable with talking finance or credit and they make it make sense to the viewers
