Thank you for making this video. My father was bit by a lone star tick and unbeknownst to him ended up with Alpha-Gal syndrome. A freaking meatball caused him to have an extreme reaction subsequently leading him into cardiac arrest. Thankfully the doctors were able to revive him but at 77 and other health issues it was too much on his body and he passed away a year ago this month. Most people have heard of Lyme disease but I have found most doctors haven't heard of Alpha-Gal syndrome. It is a mammalian meat allergy. So he became allergic to every meat except fish and poultry. It has a delayed reaction time of 6 to 8 hours so a lot of people do not connect there steak dinner with waking up in anaphylaxis. You do not become ill when you contract Alpha-Gal from a tick until you eat meat. Its a very bizarre allergy. Many people also have very mild symptoms in the beginning so it goes undiagnosed.

I thought it said Tik Tok for a quick second. You'd think we would be able to find something without a ton of chemicals to repel ticks. Great tips. I was in AR with Nicholas several yrs ago for his first trip there. We hiked around and ended up inspecting for ticks. Think Stand By Me movie and that was Nicholas. Hate those things.
Luckily Mav and myself don't have to many issues with ticks except one or two give or take..Permethrin is where its at it lasts song and is not hard on your gear. I just spray my gear outside and let them hang to dry. Use them on our trip and hang back up high in the closet when I get back home. Great tick talk Mike! We are opening your package tonight around 830pm-9pm EST hope to see you there!
yes they are out of control this year!...we didn t have any frost days in Florida this year which usually will kill some of them..but no frost and the population just exploded this year
Thanks Mike for sharing your ideas and research. I AGREE, it is BAD this year. You’re in charge of finding the perfect organic mix for ticks, please. 😁
the permethrin may be your best bet..spray on your clothes and it is not on the skin and l know you worry about pets like I do, just keep the clothes you sprayed with it in a trash bag...the permitherin last 2 or 3 washings in the laundry
This is the first year I've ever considered using chemicals, but now you've mentioned Eucalyptus Oil I may give that a go first. The warm winter and hot spring has made the little blighters into an invasion of the bloodsuckers here in the UK. I pulled 5 off the other day, a match or lighter is far more effective than tweezers though.
Mike I was just introduced to Martin's control solution 10% permethrin. I ordered from Amazon and mix my own 1 part to 20 parts simple formula 1oz to 20 oz of water much cheaper that buying Sawyers. 👌
i keep the dogs to the center of the old rail bed to stay away from ticks. They are on medicine that kills the tick if they get bit by a tick. Why can't they make that for people? I would like some permethrin to stockpile. Just in case. Thank you for your thoughts, Mike
The big problem with DEET is that it can melt plastic, paint and rubber. Hard on sunglasses, cameras and phones.... That's the reason I use Picaridin. none of those problems and it's not oily on your skin... If I get caught, I will resort to using DEET on my socks and pant cuffs but never on my hands, neck, shoulders or forearms. All those areas can be reached with my hands which can transfer the DEET to my equipment...
I had zero ticks on me after Saturday's overnight thanks to Sawyer Permethrin. The two I got last month there, on a day hike, was because I switched to a cooler untreated shirt last minute.
Great information Mike. No idea how the ticks are here in Washington state. Too busy working to get out there.

I agree why don't they have rabies vaccine for folks who are always in the woods too all mt cats have the shots and they are house cats
