You are right about playing the game. But Ruyi thought beyond the physical life and into her spiritual life and the karma she would build up. She also did not want to ease her own suffering on the backs of others, even servants. In past episodes, the emperor &wives are always willing to sacrifice the servants &children to get ahead. Ruyi valued everyone's life and did not want to stoop down to their level of corruption. She wanted to fully follow her Buddhist teachings. When she was framed for the affair with the Grand Master and later cleared, the grand master told her to hold onto her teachings and continue to seek enlightenment and detachment from the material world. She also valued the other consorts more than the emperor and realized the struggle for the emperor's favor was worthless because he didn't truly love or care for any of the women. But she knew it was the culture they lived in that pushed these women to do horrible things, and that in the end trapped them into a pitiful existence. Thats why in the end she didn't want any of it. The most important thing was freedom from it all.

All I can say is the Emperor does not deserve Ruyi's love or respect. No wonder, in the end she would not be reconciled. At nay rate, she has a a great friend, a soul mate in Lin Unche. So heart breaking.
I hate this emperor the most. In my life I would never like to be an emperor woman because it's worth less they are not loyal to love what they want is only body of a women for having fun and children.
Of all of the pain and suffering the Emperor has caused, this is the most unforgivable.

She goes on the trip. The trip is bittersweet. She find out Consort Ling has been convincing the Emperor to sleep with prostitutes, ruining his reputation and making the commoners talk bad about him. He also has been ignoring his duties as emperor for these personal pleasures. She puts her personal feelings aside and goes to him while he's with the prostitutes and begs him for his reputation, health, and prosperity of the country to return to the traveling palace. He gets mad and compares her to the first empress which she makes no comment about but flips when he compares her to Consort Ling. Eventually she lists all the things that have happened in the past years, all the years in the office and calls him a tyrant. He yells, "Impertinent!", slaps her to the ground and says, "You belittle your emperor and just your place as subject and wife. Seeing how wind you are, I should depose you instead. She says she's sick and tired of being his empress so she takes a knife and cuts a piece of her hair. She holds the sliver of hair and says that many years ago they cut their hats and joined it in a knot to cement their marriage, now she cuts her hair again to end it and walks out. The Emperor puts her on house arrest saying she went mad and promoted Consort Ling to be Imperial Noble Consort to rule the harem. That episode is honestly so satisfying, she points out how he only cares for people after they die, shows how he let the schemes of the concubines happen and just ooh it's great.
As much as I didnt want Ling Yunche to die, it was an inevitability and that is only after unspeakable torture, even if Hailan hadn't made that move. Emperor wanted him to suffer and no amount of proof of innocence would have ever freed him. All that would ever happen, is more suffering. It was, in the long run, the kindest thing to do, to finally end the horror. I understand Ruyi hurting because of it, but to not understand enough to not cast off Hailan, makes her that bit less in my eyes.
While Ruyi acts calm and collected, here I'm in mess sobbing my eyes out 😭
The actress portrayed the pain without the dramatics. Very effective

I feel sorry for Hailan as she just did that to protect Ruyi by Lunche's execution.
No haylan should investigate not kill a innocent person, she know the truth and have the ring to probe it! Good that her sister never forgot what she did.
@@doriscastillo8020 You know why Ling Yunche hasn't been put to death yet, though the Emperor could have done so easily? That's because the Emperor is waiting for Ruyi to do it; he wants that show of loyalty from her. That's the only thing that could appease his anger. I doubt he even cares about their innocence at that point. Hailan understood the assignment and did the dirty job herself while announcing that it was Ruyi's order, since Ruyi couldn't bring herself to do it. I don't necessarily agree with Hailan's actions, but I definitely understand why she did what she did.
Well she’s still close friends with her, it’s just not as strong as before.
What a challenging political system that provoked the worst in people, all maneuvering to survive. Like a chess game on steroids, with the death of so many pawns... I have to wonder how we even know of Ruyi's history if she was wiped from the records...

This is loosely based on real historical figures and events but the doings inside the palace are mostly fictional, this is based on a novel of course and the authors made up their own stories about it. There’s hardly any real records about any of the consort’s daily lives, heck they never even bothered to record the consorts and concubine’s real first names, even that is made up by authors

Ruyi was so foolish to turn on Hailan. What would she have rathered, poor Ling Yuche to suffer torture everyday until he died a shadow of himself senseless and broken and she tortured a long with him in her Palace?
This is the one time I disagree with Ruyi, she could not saver herself or Ling Yuche and wasn't the type to plot or scheme. Hailan did what she could not and would not to save her out of pure loyalty.
She was trying to collect evidence that he was innocent, all she needed was more time but hai lan took that way from her. I understand both in this situation, and your statement. I just think you needed a bit more context. Plus in this palace full of people trying to kill Nd your children everyday, wanting to keep the people you trust alive is understandable.
It’s more about what she did then why she did it in her name and this would make her son forever feel guilty for telling his dad they hugged. Now her son never feels free of guilt and the emperor never truly forgave her all she did and it never helped anyone until she was dieing

That super cruel punishment because she poison ruyi and almost dead and mess up with her medicine for tuberculosis and that why ruyi choose dying slowly than been poison. That why her bonsai also dying because to slowly been poison. And yet that witch make more mess up frame ruyi herself don’t want to be cure. But karma come to that witch when the emperor himself hear all confessions. After 7 gone completely crazy, emperor ask servant to poison her to dead. No funeral service for her, been put buried outside. She pay all for crime she made with high price and I super satisfied with emperor for the 1st to make up his selfishness to who women and children and servants who die innocent and been frame up.

uh that didn’t happen like no one poisoned ruyi she just got tuberculosis and like at the end the emperor told everyone not to mention ruyi ever again and like she even got buried with the other dead consorts I think and she wasn’t even labeled as a empress when she got buried and when the announcement of her dying was like saying Ulanara ruyi died something like that

Hailan lives but her relationship with Ruyi never quite mended. Ruyi despairs that her friend has become so ruthless and feels sad that Hailan has become this way because of her protectiveness towards Ruyi who keeps getting schemed against. And so Ruyi starts to put a bit of distance between them so that Hailan wouldn't be so involved and feel so compelled to keep doing bad things in the name of protecting her. Even so, Hailan understands Ruyi's intention and remains loyal to Ruyi until the very end.

Halian killed Ling Yunche to clear Ruyis name. Ling was in agreement with it and its heartbreaking. Ruyi hates Halian after though.
Ruyi's son and daughter was killed by noble consort Ling. Guard ling yunche was killed by hailan. Emperor doubted ruyi that she had an affair with ling yunche. Hailan went to meet ling yunche at jail. hailan told them that, she was sent by empress. Inorder to clear her name, hailan had a conversation with ling yunche. Ling yunche admire ruyi alot. Hence, he wanted hailan to kill him to clear ruyi's name. Jail authorities informed everyone that ling yunche was killed by empress.
I hate Hailan always trying to push Ruyi into that Horrid Emporer.

He was the son of the concubine who had to drink poison and its antidote daily for years until her son was considered for the throne and she was finally killed to protect his public image. Ruyi's son is the 12th prince who lives on but was not chosen for the throne. Ruyi's last letter to him told him to live a happy life and to not allow himself to be forced into doing something he does not want to do. The emperor read between the lines and understood that Ruyi did not want her son to take on the burden of being emperor even though he is the legitimate heir.
@Princess Ethiopian Yongji actually does die before Qianlong stepped down from the throne. What people fail to understand is that his successor wasn't particularly loved or favored, he was just available. So many of Qianlong's issue passed before he abdicated. He was exceptionally long-lived for his time.
